One of my favorite vampire movies of all time and favorite horror movies ever! I saw this movie on video about sixteen years ago when i was 15 when i rented it from one of my city's video stores and loved it, i even made a taped copy of it for myself and showed it to my friends in high school for Halloween and they enjoyed it.

Kathryn Bigelow made her best movie here and the cast from Aliens except Weaver returns together as a kickass band of vampires in a modern for the 80's kind of western and has a great score by Tangerine Dream. This is the movie that "Twilight" wishes it was.

There are a several incredible creepy moments in "Near Dark" and most of them are courtesy of one Joshua Miller. The scene with Caleb's little sister is surreal bizarre. I do like the re-teaming of the "Aliens" clan in such a crazy way. Jenette Goldstein rocks!

And Jenny Wright is now considered somewhat of an 80's cult legend. She kind of disappeared for awhile, but has since resurfaced. I remember a few years back about a group dedicating a tune to her called "Near Dark Jenny".

"Near Dark" is definitely how most folks might have envision vampires among us in the 80's .. but for me .. I'll take a vampire cave with a haunting tribute to the late Jim Morrison any night over cruising around in a tinted van.

Good movie, interesting blend of the western and vampire movie. Lost Boys was better, though.

Did you notice that 'Aliens' was playing at the movie theatre when Caleb hobbles past?

What if Severen (Bill Paxton's character who is the **** in this movie) met Edward Cullen? would he laugh at the sparkles and cut his throat with his spurs then have a beer like a real man or vampire?

I prefer this to Lost Boys even though both came out at the same time but LB is still great. ND has a more indy feel and feels more professional as it was supervised by James Cameron himself who was married to Kathryn at the time.

Why i think this one is different than any vampire movie in the 80's as it's one of those unconventional vampire movies, here these vampires have no fangs but rather sharp as blades teeth instead, they cover their windows with black paint, slowly burn instead of quickly like traditional vampires, they do cast reflections in a mirror and they don't turn into bats which is just crap.

Who is glad they aren't emotional sissyboys, don't attend high school and sparkle?
