Devolution here,

While watching this movie, my wife said to me that this is the first movie that she had ever seen that made her want to be 20 again. I kind of agree. It was totally advertised wrong, it's a great movie that isn't that funny, but it goes straight through 87 and there isn't a bad song on the soundtrack or in the movie at all. Lots of Lou Reed and the Replacements.

Highly recommended.

Devo.. I thought "Adventureland" was a very good movie that could have been great. I agree that the soundtrack was 80's awesome, but the atmosphere of the movie was not quite the 80's that I remember. Not saying it wasn't a well made movie overall.. I think I probably built my expectations up too much before watching it. It is definitely a movie I plan on revisiting soon.

Ok, I seem to be shamelessly dropping personal trivia around here lately, but I grew up near where they filmed Adventureland and have been to Kennywood Park, near Pittsburgh, many times. All those rides are there, as well as the sh**** games. I think that it's a great movie, with the best soundtrack from last year. For those Kristen Stewart detractors, she is really excellent in this, a method performance from a young star.

I'm right with Valley on this one, for probably the exact same reason...I remember having high expectations, and although I liked the movie, it kinda fell short for me. Almost like if they tweeked a few things, it would have made a GREAT movie, instead of a GOOD one. I believe there is an old post about this movie that some rewinders chimed in on. On the other hand, as I write this, I'm thinking I better watch it one more time...just to make sure.

kev is right, this movie was talked about in the 00's section...but anyway, i felt adventureland was a big disappointment. great soundtrack, that's it.

Good enough for one watch and never to be revisited or thought of again...or so I thought, then Devo goes and posts this in the 80s section, and here I am thinking about it again! [Razz]

I thought this was a really great movie. Seemed a little more 90's than 80's to me though.

I'm more of an 84' kinda guy, VS 87'....I would have liked it better if they aimed to represent the early 80's I think....kinda like Napolean Dynamite....they got the 80's right...I mean, selling tupper wear....come on!

Yeah, it drives me mad when they just lump all the retro stuff from the 70s or whatever into a specific 80s timeframe... The Rubik's cube is the obvious one that is often misrepresented... It actually came out originally in the late seventies and was all but finished by the mid 80s, if I remember correctly...

Did you look at her wistfully and say...

"Yes... I wish you were twenty again, too".

It's my personal bugbear (sp?) with any movie set in the past - the real timeline. You're right; 'Rubik's Cube' was done by the mid-eighties - everyone had owned one... past tense. They were filling up the carboot sales and second hand stores. I believe we'd even had the 'Rubik's Magic' by then.

Devolution here,

It's more of the concept of what it was like to be 20. Neither myself or my wife was close to 20 in 1987. I have been buying Jesus and the Mary chain... Any feelings on them?

I think they have a slightly 'generic' sound to their songs, but it's a good sound and uniquely their own. Their first two albums are great.

Devo.. I really enjoy Jesus and Mary Chain's tune "Head On".. and you have to appreciate "Some Candy Talking" from the movie Modern Girls!
