So, I've done these kind of threads before and you guys have really helped me. Usually you can browse to some threads and get some inspiration but this time I'll be fussy =)

I watched Overboard and Roxanne last night and it hit me how much I love these small town, easy going flicks. I mean the town and nature in Roxanne (Nelson, British Columbia, Canada) is just astonishing! With a surrounding like that the movie is lifted up to a new level. The same goes with Overboard.

I could also mention The Great Outdoors. Nature like the ones in the norhern parts of USA and Canada can only be described with one word. WOW!

Ah, The goonies also brings you that feeling, even if it's mostly placed in the underground. The small town-cosiness is so fundamental for the movie.

So, with all this rambling I hope you see what I'm looking for!

I've tried searching the internet, browsing IMDB, but it's not as easy to find anything, as it would be if you're looking for a 80s teen movie. There's tons of lists and so on for that.

Does it have to be a 'cozy' small town? Cause there's Footloose, but damn, that town is lame!

Funy Farm might work for ya.

Groundhog Day is great (but 90s if that matters).

Although I've seen the movies you suggested I must say you picked 3 good ones and they all fit my criterias. Love 'em all =)

Nah, it doesnt have to be 80s, and besides the early 90s is kind of a grey zone. I mean, 1990-91 are still 80s in so many ways, if you know what I mean.

a couple that spring to mind in relation to what you described:

Don't Tell her it's me/The Boyfriend School: came out in 1990, but it has an 80's hangover feel to it. A bit on the mushy lovey duvy side, but no more than Roxanne

Big Business: Pretty good small-townish like flick with Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin

The Jerk: The 1979 classic starring Steve Martin.

Lucas: One of the best for this particular subcatergory IMO.

Big Top Pee Wee: IDK, just cuz I have a soft spot for this movie.

Just so you don't think I'm super-fussy, it doesn't have to base on the small town life, like Funny farm (which I love) compared to Roxanne which is more like a package of love with an extra nice wrapping (the town).

Valley: I have no doubt in my mind about that! I mean, if that old neighbour from Home Alone who rescues Kevin is in it, what can go wrong?

Pyromantic: I've seen The Jerk and Lucas and I totally agree about Lucas. I've only seen it once but I remember how it wasn't just an ordinary teen movie. Corey Heim (R.I.P) did not get the recognition he deserved. I will rewatch it. Great tip!

"Big Top Pee-wee", Haha, that's great considering my soft spot for Overboard. I don't know if you've seen Overboard but there's some funny parts refering to Pee Wee Herman in that movie =)

Big Business seems so familiar. I'm sure I've seen it but I'll definetly try to find it again.

Did Pee Wee's Big Adventure start in a small town? i'm spacing.........I totally just thought of Short Circuit because it's filmed in Astoria ,OR the same town as Goonies and has lots of beautiful shots of scenery.

You really should see Big Business I love it! A great Bette movie [Big Grin]

and I love her as much as I love Shelley Long haha

So, I've got a hold on some of the movies you recommended, if you care for an update =)

Doc Hollywood, Big Bussinnes and The Boy Who Could Fly. I liked both Doc Hollywood and Big Bussinnes a lot. I just cannot like easy going 80s movies like that! But The Boy Who Could Fly was my favorite of those three. That was just such a sweet movie!

I immediately got that cozy feeling I'm looking for (and of course it's shot in Canada (does all canadian small towns look like this? =). Spot on!

I mean, it's just perfect. New in town, girl meets boy, yadayadayada, fall in love, boy can fly. Same old, same old...Well not really [Big Grin]

It had some nice depth in it. Great tip, logan!

I don't know if there's any resemblance but it remainded me of an childhood favorite which I completly forgot about. Don't remember the name, maybe one of you guys do? There's a boy who doesnt age or something. There's a space ship, I think, and he travels to space where he doesnt age and then comes back home some years later and his parents are chocked as hell (obv...).

Well, anyhow, if you remember anything more just keep em coming! Gonna watch Lucas now.

Edit: It was Flight of the Navigator I was talking about. Just found it.

I mean...besides all the bikers and beer and drug filled parties....MASK kinda fits, Six Pack with Kenny Rogers, First Blood, Youngblood, On Golden Pond, Gremlins, Stand By Me...are a few that come to mind.

That's a great suggestion. I've seen it already tho and I love it. I read somewhere that there indeed were plenty of scenes cut out, but I havent seen any longer version yet.

There is no longer version, but the US DVD has two scenes that were cut out of the video version as a special feature, and I think they're essential (one of them at least).

Also... 'The Burbs'.

Actually, I'm interested in watching the cut scenes that you are mentioning. I always make fun of the second half of "Explorers", but the first half is so good I would still recommend it to a kid to watch even today.

I feel sorry for Dante the way the movie worked out for him. He had tons more footage and was in the process of putting the movie together when the studio basically said "We're taking the film now" and bumped the release date by several weeks. He himself calls the film something of a work print.

There are two; one of them is the kids walking to school after they have the initial dreams which I really like and think sets the scene for who they are very well (it was in the UK video release but not the US). The other is just a small scene of them rolling the tilt-a-whirl down a hill and it crashing. Both of them are from the first half of the movie. Sadly, we'd need to go back to the original footage if we were to salvage the second half.
