I've made it no secret that I'm excited that Kelli Maroney (Night of the Comet, Chopping Mall, & Fast Times At Ridgemont High) decided to check out The Rewind.  So with that in mind, I wanted to share this little hidden gem of what I like to classify as an action/horror flick.  I'm not sure how many of you (beside aTomiK) have actually seen "The Zero Boys", but I've always enjoyed it and Kelli is quite excellent in it.

 -

The premise is kind of 80's unique:

Steve (Daniel Hirsch), Larry (Tom Shell), and Rip (Jared Moses) are part of a paintball enthusiast survival team known as "The Zero Boys". After winning a paintball tournament, they decide to celebrate. Along for the ride are Larry's girlfriend Trish (Crystal Carson), Rip's girlfriend Sue (Nicole Rio), and Jamie (Kelli Maroney).

Steve "won" a date with Jamie after he and Casey, the opposing team's ringleader and also Jamie's boyfriend, bet her in a wager. Jamie, naturally, is not thrilled with this revelation, but decides to go along with Steve and his friends anyway.

Enroute to their destination, Jamie spots what she believes to be a woman running through the woods. The group then stumbles upon an unoccupied house in the middle of the forest and are forced inside for shelter from a dangerous storm.

As the night progresses, strange events begin to happen. There is a menacing, unintelligible voice on the phone. Trish sees someone watching her from a hole in the ceiling. A scream is heard from a barn..

Actually, the barn scene is what turns this from just 80's creepy fun to full on horror in my opinion.

Quickly it becomes apparent that the six are being stalked and hunted .. but remember this is The Zero Boys and Samantha Belmont .. so they might not let this just be any normal slasher film.

I would recommend "The Zero Boys" to any fans of 80's horror..

First of all I used to have the biggest crush on Kelli Maroney.

Second of all this is one of the only movies that I actually got scared watching. I remember I was home alone and it was pouring out with thunder & lightening. I had seen hundreds of horror movies by that time since I worked in a video store and would probably watch 2 movies a night after work. None of them scared me but for some reason this movie did. I watched it again a few years ago and it did nothing for me so it was probably just the timing of when I watched it that got me.

Hi Kelli [Smile]

Yeah, iīve always loved The Zero Boys and itīs one of my all times faves!

Great write-up Valley!

I still remember when we rented this movie back in the day, watched and loved it.

I like director Nico Mastorakisī style and try to collect all his flicks.
The cast in this film is very good IMO and
i love the score composed by Stanley Myers and Hans Zimmer.

Youīre right Valley, the haunting barn scene really
changes the mood in an instant.

All you horror maniacs who still havenīt seen The Zero Boys,
check it out, NOW!

Just ordered the dvd off of amazon

never seen it, but comments above make it sound like my kind of movie

does Kelli Maroney have a big part in it?

Kelli is one of the main stars of the movie and features throughout. It also features my all time favorite Kelli line - "I **** on the first date."

Kelli, I ran into Nicole Rio recently at the New Beverly for our Sorority House Massacre screening - she sends her regards and was sad to have missed you at Chopping Mall!

Something like this:

"They prepared with wargames,
but were forced into new kind of war you couldnīt practice.."

DMK.. you are going to really enjoy this movie.

I watched "The Zero Boys" last weekend and it is best to watch it late at night during a huge storm.. added effect that will creep you out even more in my opinion.

Really liked Kelli's character in the movie and not only because of what Phil mentioned above, though I must admit that I busted out laughing the first time I heard Kelli say that line... but because she fit in well with the guys in the movie. Though she gave some incredible looks of horror .. examples - guy with the knife, the trunk contents .. when it came time to react, she over came her fear.

I have that Omega dvd too, with the truly awful sleeve design ! [Frown]

The Arrow artwork is not too bad.. I do hope the original is on the flipside of the sleeve though.

 -

I still own a poster with the exact same design, plus a set of original lobbycards. [Cool]

Pretty cool extra's have been announced on the Arrow site :

Cool collection, Warrior.

I don't have Sky High and .Com For Murder, but along with the other titles you have there i also own
Nightmare At Noon, which is a pretty cool action flick.

I believe Blood Stone (1988) and Glitch (1988) are also part of the same collection, but i don't have them,
which is a shame really, because i vaguely remember i took these home on VHS back when they first came out.

Yeah I liked - nightmare at noon,it had bo Hopkins and wing Hauser teaming up again, they starred in the really cool 1984 horror - mutant together, that's worth checking out johnny if you've never seen it.

Terminal exposure is another one I wanted to watch but never got my hands on.

Love the Hans zimmer music scores to - the zero boys and the wind, but I still think one of my favourites has to be - you're so cool from - true romance - https://youtu.be/hBw3LiQwRaw ,remember going to the theatre to watch it when it first came out and the opening credits with zimmer's theme playing I thought was really awesome,I had a gut feeling I was in for a really great film!

I have 13 Mastorakis films at the moment:

Nightmare at Noon (1988), Glitch! (1988), Ninja Academy (1989), Hired to kill (1990) and In the Cold of the Night (1991).

Writer & Producer: Bloodstone (1988).

Producer: The Grandmotherīs House (1988).

warrior, do you have Island of Death Arrow blu? If not, you should. Itīs one crazy movie but iīm sure youīd like it [Smile]

I actually caught the end of - island of death sometime back as it aired on the horror channel over here in the UK and you are certainly right about it as what I saw of it was both completely nuts and very entertaining.

I'll have to look at picking up a copy of it at some point as I think it's not to badly priced either,I remember it was included in the infamous video nasties list back in the day.

 -

Atomik I notice you haven't got - blind date (1984) in your collection,it's one that gets absolutely slated by most critics (bit like most of mastorakis's films) but i've always really dug it,I think it's a pretty cool film and was the first nico mastorakis movie I ever watched as I watched it when it first hit home rental back in 84/85.

I'd say its definitely worth checking out if you get the chance and a little bit of trivia about it is that it was the only film that kirstie alley ever appeared nude!

 -

Kirstie alley photo shoot pic from roughly the time she appeared in - star trek 2 the wrath of khan back in 1982

Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :

Wow, i definitely need Blind Date but havenīt found a copy yet.
Iīve wondered whoīs the girl on the UK cover because it sure ainīt Kirstie. It must be Lana Clarkson then?

Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :

Yeah I believe that is lana clarkson, marina sirtis (Deanna troi from star trek) also stars and also like kirstie alley has a nude scene.

Don't get me wrong it's a long ,long way from being a classic, its probably far from being a good movie in all truth but I like it and I do think its an entertaining 90 minutes or so!
