It's back to college slasher night on The Rewind.. Rush Week vs Final Exam.  Haven't seen them you might say...

Rush Week

 -

"Rush Week" combines raunchy gags with scary slasher flick.. the results are actually better than you might expect. Ambitious journalism major Toni Daniels, a new transfer to Tambers College, immediately joins the school paper and is given her first assignment; covering Rush Week activities. Toni also begins researching a more interesting story about Julie Ann McGuffin, a law student just reported missing by a concerned roommate. While covering her originally assigned story, Toni bumps into hunky Jeffrey Jacobs, begins seeing him and finds out his former girlfriend, who was also the daughter of school dean was viciously murdered the previous year.

Final Exam

 -

"Final Exam" takes place at a small college in North Carolina where a serial killer is stalking the grounds. At the beginning of the film the killer was at another college on a rampage. It seems that the killer has a small problem with colleges. Was he kicked out for failing? Did he get dumped by his college girlfriend? Actually, his motive is unknown which does make this movie a little creepy.

"Rush Week" or "Final Exam" .. for me it really isn't that close.  Neither movie is that well known, but "Final Exam" is actually a decent slasher that has some creepy moments.

I haven't seen either (cause I don't like scary movies), but Rush Week looks like it has the chicks in it, so it might get my meaningless vote. [Smile]

Would I be right in saying 'Rush Week' is late eighties, and 'Final Exam' is early eighties? I think one might have been during the 'proper' slasher era, and the other during the 'it's-a-cliche-and-we-know-it' era.

Watched Rush Week (1989) and while logan5 is right, itīs from the 'it's-a-cliche-and-we-know-it' era, i liked the film.

The cast is pretty decent and the storyline is quite ok.
Thereīs lots of frat parties, jokes and plenty of nudity which is always good and entertaining [Wink]
The gore is absent and most kills are off screen but you can see some mayhem in the end.

Awesome party band The D1ckies (Killer Klowns from Outer Space) also performs. Check out the scene here

Cool stuff if you donīt expect too much.

Not seen - rush week since it was first released (watched the exact same big box guild home video version as above) so i really can't give an accurate opinion on that film but do own - final exam on blu ray from scream factory - (looks awesome on blu, especially the night time scenes that used to be overly dark and murky on both the vhs and DVD,they are now a lot more detailed),actually watched it just before Christmas and though it's a million miles away in quality from the very best in the slasher genre it's still a hell of a lot of fun!

If you can look past some of the dodgy acting and silly plot developments there's actually quite a creepy vibe to this one and like valley mentioned in the original post the fact you don't know who the killer is or why he is actually doing the killing really adds to the overall suspense.

Really crazy scene in this one where the jocks on campus stage a mock terror attack with a van full of balaclavad men with machine guns that pull up and then open fire on the campus students (who all happen to be in on the act) that are passing by Just to cause a diversion so that one of there number can cheat in an exam that he is sitting.

Wildman and radish - who on earth thinks up these names [Big Grin]

It's So ridiculous but funny and there's no way in hell a scene like this would fly nowadays especially after all the shooting incidents in schools across the u.s.,another thing about this one that sticks out for me is how ridiculous some of the characters names are,you got the geeky one that is known as - radish [Embarrassed] the crazy jock who is known as - wildman who snorts just about anything he can get his hands on and even eats shaving foam [Confused] it seriously is a bonkers but fun little horror movie!
