Patrick Dempsey stars as Randy Bodek, a college student who's alienated his father by doing poorly in school; consequently, tuition payments have been cut off, leading Randy to take a job as a pizza delivery boy for the summer. One day he encounters Ms. Alex Barnett (Barbara Carrera), who asks for more than pizza when he shows up to make a delivery. Later she sets him up in business, passing his card around to other bored, wealthy Beverly Hills women--and the enterprising youth realizes he'll be able to pay for his entire education by simply living up to his Loverboy name.

I'm a big fan of Nancy Valen because of the movie "The Heavenly Kid" and she did not disappoint in this flick either. I only wish that she would've had a bigger role.

Loverboy is one of those movies that is loaded with outstanding supporting actors/actresses that make for great fun. This is a movie that has silly uncomfortable moments at times, but overall it is just a fun flick that reminds you of the 80's.

Best movie ever. I even became a pizza delivery guy for a while just because of this movie. It didn't work out for me quite like it did for Randy Bodek, but I had some fun.

Secret Admirer.. that is too funny.

E.G. Daily was outstanding as Linda.

And how could I forget Tony!! I always think of Pepe Le Pew when I watch Tony chasing Randy's mom.

Hahaha, exactly Valley! Tony chasing down Randy's mom (and the whole ending craziness) is what really caps the movie off. E.G. Daily is always fantastic. I basically agree with you 110% on everything you say, always.

I loved this movie, and I miss the more awkward, geeky Pat Dempsey, this whole McDreamy stuff feels fake. When he's trying to do that dance in front of the client and he's knocking down the pottery...hilarious.

I´m a huge fan of Dempsey´s early work!

I have 9 Patrick Dempsey flicks (timespan 1985-1991)
and only miss "The Stuff" (uncredited role), tv-movie "A Fighting Choice"
and 1988 movie "In a Shallow Grave".

Loverboy is a funny flick and Dempsey gives a great performance.
For me he will always be the awkward guy, who suddenly finds himself in strange situations,
but in the end everything will always turn out well.

I must admit, when the 80's had ended and I began to miss the era in the 'grungey' 90's, one of the first things I did was hunt down as many Patrick Dempsey flicks as I could because he seemed to embody to me the essence of the good times I felt had changed. To this day I can't watch a 'young' Dempsey movie without smiling!

I find it fascinating that he married his (much older) manager when he was 21. A bit controversial at the time.

Anybody know where to get the 'Fast Times' TV show?

*sings* "the world don't need another loverrr"

love that song in the opening credits [Big Grin]

wasn't the hot italian lover cher's boyfriend in the 80s? "but i luuuuv youuuu."

I think that guys name was Rob Camelleti or something like that. He was referred to as "The Bagel Boy" I guess cause he worked in a Bagel shop when Cher found him. She got all hot and made him her toy boy for a while.

I love this movie and I still say stuff from it. Like referring to no-sex-hangup girls as "Yes Tony Girls" and saying to my wife.."I have MANY anchovies for you!!" LMAO

It's a lot better than Can't Buy Me Love IMO. That one I liked but it was beyond riduculous and this is coming from a guy who likes stupid movies like Spice World and Josie And The Pussycats!!

I loved this one so I have to say that Patrick Dempsey definitely got better with age. Great all star cast with Carrie Fisher, Vic Tayback, Kirstie Alley, and Kate Jackson. Some great lines in it as well.

I love the scene where all the spurned husbands band together to kick some butt while Jerry Lewis's Great Balls of Fire is playing.

I remember when I used to work in an office before I got married (around 1995) all the computers were down one day and there was nothing to do but read magazines and newspapers and talk and somehow somebody in my office (who was pretty high up) mentioned this movie. I started making "extra anchovies" jokes and as we got further and further into dissecting the movie I finaly noticed people peeking over at us over their newspapers. I said "Oh come on now, you dont expect me to believe me and him are the only two people in this room who have seen LOVERBOY. A show of hands: whose seen LOVERBOY?" Every single hand in the office went up!
Then I said "Alright, now a show of hands: whose seen SCHINDLERS LIST?" NOBODYS hand went up!

So as cheesy as LOVERBOY is EVERYBODY I know has seen it at least ONCE!

I have only seen it once a million years ago but y'know what? I think I like it more than CANT BUY ME LOVE too! While CANT BUY ME LOVE had a cute story it really didnt deliver the laughs for me.

If they haven't, they should!

Well... Can't Buy Me Love is more of a romance than a comedy, so it's bound to be lower on laughs.

The important question is; do you order extra anchovies?! [Eek!]

I Liked Nancy Valen too. I thought she would have had a bgger career, but so many like that.

Wow..I'm actually shocked by the number of folks that like this movie over "Can't Buy Me Love". While I enjoy "Loverboy" and think it is funny, for me "Can't Buy Me Love" is an 'Outrageous' movie and actually one of my fav flicks.

I count two!

I think CBML is more of a Rom/Com Dramedy with a pinch of relate-able 'truth', and this is a straight comedy. There's nothing in it for me: CBML all the way!
