I can remember a while back someone mentioned on the forum (I think Paul or Nick), that they were going on a road trip to check out and photograph 80's film locations...which is totally cool.

Living in the uk I have a big interest in seeing what the locations look like now compared to back in the day, anyone got any photo's of movie locations or any good sites that have movie locations from the 80's on....

Yes, I went on a road trip across Arizona, Nevada and up the California coast last year...

As many of you will know, I'm working hard on a new locations site for the rewind that will showcase all the locations I found with precise then/now pics matched to the framing of the movie etc...

Its turning out to be a huge undertaking, but I really want to get it done in the next few months..

My stuff will then hopefully kick it off and encourage everyone to contribute lots more similar pics and findings and build into a definitive library of locations from this era..

The movies that will be covered at launch will be a couple of suprise classics that are locations favourites of mine that will be covered in full with just about every location in the movie, as well as a liberal sprinkling of previously undiscovered locations from various huge hits...

I'd really hoped to get this done sooner, but, as I said, its taking much longer than anticipated due to the radical (for me) new web technologies that will be used to give the sort of interactive functionality that is needed to make it be a satisfying place to visit and be a part of. In the tradition of this site, everyone's contribution, big or small, will be properly recognised and rewind members and people who contribute will be able to get much more out of it than people who are just passing by..

But hopefully there will be something cool for everyone... [Smile]

Nick..I'm stoked to see your 80's movie locations. As you know, I love that kind of stuff too.

I remember you posted a few from "The Last Starfighter" awhile back which were awesome!

Hey Valley [Smile]

Yeah, I hope it will be great for all of us locations freaks [Smile]

I've got this dream that one day you'll be able to go on there and, for example... Look at an area that you're visiting (or a movie you love), browse nearby/relevant locations and then choose the ones you're interested in by adding them to a "road trip" (kinda like a shopping cart on other sites) and then, when you're done, it will supply you with a complete, printable itinerary with maps & directions to each of the locations. Print it out, get in the car & go... [Big Grin]

Then, just like facbook, when you get back, you can add your comments, upload your pics, add new locations you found etc [Smile]

Now, if I had a hundred deveopers, it would be easy, but that kind of functionality will just have to be "release 2.0".. or "99.7" [Wink]

Valley Girl location.

Anyone know if Du-Par's restaurant is still around? I'd sure love to go eat there if it is.

Du-par's from "Valley Girl" still stands...I ate breakfast there last year on my 80's movie location day. If you decide to go I can direct you to several places that you can make it to in one day.

skatexedge and aceofspades70 if you ever journey to Du-par's then you will definitely want to visit The Sherman Oaks Galleria that is on Ventura Blvd as well. Unfortunately, The Galleria that we loved from movies such as "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", "Chopping Mall", and even an exterior shot in the movie "Valley Girl" is no longer recognizable. However, the new Sherman Oaks Galleria still sits on cherished 80's ground, so it is worth the visit.
