I find and listen to a lot of great and rare 80s soundtracks here:
 -

Lots of good stuff on their 80s sister station too:

 -

Here are just a few of my favorite 80s soundtracks:

Top Gun
Rocky IV
Real Genius
Beverly Hills Cop
Secret of My Success
Thief of Hearts
Fletch

As you can see I'm a big Harold Faltermeyer fan [Smile]

Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :

Iīm also a huge Faltermeyer fan and try to collect all his stuff.

Just bought and watched Fire and Ice (1986)

Silly movie but it includes great ski stunts, snowboarding, windsurfing, break dance,
all that 80s craziness that we love [Cool]

Thereīs some good songs on the soundtrack.
Check out this Faltermeyer theme song, pure magic!

I have the Real Genius soundtrack, although it's missing "The Tuff Do What" by Tonio K which I've never been able to find anywhere on any recorded medium. My favorite rare soundtrack is The Last American Virgin. I see people selling boots of that occasionally, but never with the Dancing Brass and Los Fabulosos 3 Paraguayos songs included. I found those a couple years ago and now have the complete 22-track original soundtrack.

I just picked up the Thief of Hearts soundtrack on LP. I don't have a record player so it's just decorating my wall right now. [Smile] The only place I can listen to the tracks for now are on the sites I mentioned above.

Devolution here,

I have a lot of oddball songs from soundtracks mainly through friends at this site. Better off Dead, Summer school, Spring Break, Pump up the Volume, Secret Admirer, and modern girls to name a few.

Where's Cindy Mancini when you need her?

I was lucky and found the Better Off Dead soundtrack on CD in a store last month. Of course I bought it ... cause I'd be better of dead without it!

I am seriously going to have to check out some of these soundtracks you all have mentioned. I don't remember most of them! Some that reallyh stand out for me are Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Vision Quest, Footloose, Streets of Fire, To Live and Die in LA. It might have been more how the music was used in the movie or set against the scene than the actual soundtrack listening to driving around in your car, but they sure left an impression anyways...p.s. Say Anything...Dobler holding the boom box over his head with the strains of Peter Gabriel coming out has been referenced time and again, but man is that a great scene at that point in the movie...love Vangelies from Chariots as well...man I better stop now!

Off the top of my head here are some of my favorite soundtracks from the 80s:

Dirty Dancing
Back to the Future
Stand By Me
Footloose
Secret of My Success (really love the Pat Bentar and Night Ranger songs on the soundtrack)
Who's that Girl

Whatever happened to Elizabeth Daily? I guess Madonna and Cyndi Lauper had too much of a share in that market.

I have a bunch of soundtracks in my mom's attic that I need to pull out. I used to grab every soundtrack I could find from the Tower Records bargain bin back then. I definately have:
Better Off Dead
Summer School
Footloose
Labyrinth
Return of the Living Dead (Picture disc)
Omen-Was very rare at the time.
Meatballs
Secret of my Success
The Warriors
Beverly Hills Cop
Sixteen Candles
Valley Girl
Bugsy Malone-still in the plastic

That's all I remember off the top of my head but once I get them i'll post a complete list.

Two that I have ALWAYS been on the lookout for on CD, but could never find are Back To School and Weird Science. Occassionally I will YouTube Jude Cole for the Back To School theme!

Seriously though, I want them too! This soundtrack is sooo rare! I saw one CD selling on Amazon a couple months ago for like $150. Looks like someone grabbed it.

Just bought this Harold Faltermeyer album called "Harold F" (1988)
Itīs a decent pop cd.
The highlight is the song "Bad Guys" by Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey.
Itīs the theme from the Beverly Hills Cop II and itīs not on the soundtrack.

Those are my favorite two tracks off the Firestarter soundtrack as well. That, Risky Business and Wavelength are probably the 3 TD scores I listen to the most. That's my go-to music when I'm trying to relax.

Most of the music I listen to is either a soundtrack or film scores. Here's a short list of some that I listen to on a regular basis. Some are official releases, others are bootlegs:
The Wraith
Better off Dead
Fletch
Weird Science
The Karate Kid (soundtrack and score)
Back to School (score)
Police Academy (score)
Death Wish 2
Dirty Dancing
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Beverly Hills Cop
Rad
National Lampoons Vacation
Caddyshack
Easy Money (LP)

Posted by journey (Member # 7316) on :

Booger, does Death Wish 2 have the Herbie Hancocck theme that they play whenever Kersey goes 'out on the prowl'? I love that. They sampled it for "John & Betty's Theme" on the Deep Cover soundtrack too.

Posted by Booger (Member # 4569) on :

No, Journey. Herbie Han**** and that song are absent from this album. The director Michael Winner got his neighbor to score this film. That neighbor was Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin.

Heavy Metal (1981) soundtrack is another cool one
and once again, a very cool flick.

I was mistaken. The song I was thinking of is called "Shadow in the City" and it is indeed by Jimmy Page. That's an awesome song.

Here's some:

Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2
Caddyshack
Cobra
Days Of Thunder (1990)
Footloose
Iron Eagle
Lost Boys
Over The Top
Pretty Woman (1990)
The Wraith
Top Gun

I find Harold Faltermeyer and Giorgio Moroder as the most talented creators of iconic 80's rock sounds bringing into movies. Hans Zimmer is in my opinion an all time composer what comes to scores and also to individual songs (Black Rain's closing Gregg Allman song I'll Be Holding On + The Last Note of Freedom from Days Of Thunder).

Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :

Youīre right, Faltermeyer and Moroder ruled the 80s
and Zimmer is the scoremeister!

Very good list too Wraith!
But Pretty Woman?
You need to explain that a little...

Posted by Wraith (Member # 8310) on :

Yap, I do have my weaknesses... [Smile]

Pretty Woman soundtrack does after all have it's moments. I find Go West tune "King Of Wishful Thinking" very suitable for opening. Robert Palmer, Natalie Cole - they fit goodly too. The main theme, "It Must Have Been Love" is a far too commercial pull from a band which I personally and otherwise rank high. But most songs in this soundtrack are pretty far from the pretty spirit of this pretty movie...

Did I mention John Williams scores (Indiana Jones), Alan Silvestri in BTTF. Plus another Charlie Sheen movie, Navy Seals, with Moroder/Whitlock in Mr Big songs. But it was until 1990 if I remember correct.

Was there any other Kenny Loggins performed songs in the 80's soundtracks? Or other Moroder/Whitlock -composed songs?

Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :

I was thinking that the Go West tune could be a good one.

I love the Navy Seals soundtrack, i have the lp and the cd version.

Kenny Loggins did also the Caddyshack II theme "Nobodyīs Fool"

You can watch the video here:
(bad video quality but the song is awesome)

The songīs included also in his fantastic "Back to Avalon" (1988) album.

king of wishful thinking is a great tune. i'm not a fan of the movie, pretty woman but i guess it did have some good songs in it.

i watched ONCE BITTEN last night so now am listening to the soundtrack. i love the songs by 3 speed, once bitten & stop talking about us..
and i remember them doing other songs for other soundtracks but can't remember which ones right now.

Once Bitten by 3 Speed is a great tune Ronnie!

They did songs also for these soundtracks:

Voyage of the Rock Aliens (1987)
Rad (1986) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lY6JU9QSEAM
Savage Streets (1984) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXy0sK9A36M

These are very close soundtrack material. I haven't heard of American Anthem. Know the film only by name and seems if it has never been on VHS here in Finland? It is not an action movie so very possible that I just never noticed it. Nice soundtrack though.

Does anybody know about Tango & Cash score from Harold Faltermeyer? Seems that there is limited edition of it, only 3.000 copies?

As I'm sure most people are, I'm a huge fan of the Beverly Hills Cop Soundtrack, but I have a question. Where in the world is Gratitude by Oingo Boingo (song was released under Danny Elfman due to legal issues) in the film? It's on the soundtrack, but I didn't hear it anywhere in the film, and it wasn't in the credits at the end of the movie either. Anybody know what's up with this?

Gonna see Blake Edwards film Blind Date in upcoming weekend. I'm not a very big fan of Edwards type slapstick films, but I remember one song which I must indentify.

Does anybody know what song is radio playing when Bruce is getting out of bed? Very James Brown sounding song.

The list of the songs is in http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/catalog/soundtrackdetail.php?movieid=1302 but I couldn't identify it there.

Just bought the Footloose soundtrack lp.

The guy who wrote the movie, Dean Pitchford, also co-wrote all the songs for the soundtrack.
Damn i miss the times they made it this way.

The "Home taping is killing music" logo on the back cover made me smile

Thereīs some very good tunes but
Kenny Loggins track "Iīm Free" and Karla Bonoff cut "Somebodyīs Eyes" are the best ones IMO.

Kenny Loggins - I'm Free (Heaven Helps The Man)
Great video with Virginia Madsen!!

Someone posted about Return of the Living Dead so I have a question for the experts. I don't remember where or when I got it but I have a picture disc of the soundtrack. One side has zombies and the other side has a topless Linnea Quigley. Does anyone know how many copies were released, if it's worth anything, etc...

Thanks

Wow, that MUST be worth something.
I would love to own one.

The Demons (1985) soundtrack by Claudio Simonetti has some cool tunes.
The original soundtrack has also some rock tracks (Motley Crue, Rick Springfield etc.)
but i have this score only cd.

I remember loving the movie, awesome horror flick.
I watched it many times in the late 80s/early 90s but havenīt seen it since.

I have both Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtrack and also Weird Science which are very difficult to find.

Feel free to message me if you would like either

The Malster - I can't tell you just how correct you are as I have been looking for both the soundtrack to Weird Science and Back To School for upwards of 15 years or more! Granted, I don't think my search was ever full-tilt, but I always had my eye out at conventions, shows, flea markets, etc. and the occassional light ebay search.

What is the playlist like? I remember Tenderness, Weird Science and maybe that it even had Eighties on it, but can't remember much else...anyways, very cool indeed! [Cool]

Running Scared has a good soundtrack.
Rod Temperton did some good tunes for Klymaxx, Michael McDonald and Fee Waybill.
I also like the New Edition, Patti LaBelle and Kim Wilde tracks.
Funny movie too.

Help!!

My spouse described a 1980's movie to me, and though I pride myself on my knowledge of the genre, I am thoroughly STUMPED! Here is what was described:

Story of a boy who grows up in an upper class home with 2 loving parents, basically an entitled life, and when he is a teen he is killed somehow, but he is reincarnated, this time to a poor, low-class family. He looks EXACTLY the same in his second life as he did in the first life. The only other thing that can be remembered about the film is a part sometime toward the end of the movie where the boy is not quite a teenager anymore and is hitchhiking, and he is picked up by the now-older parents from his first life. They look at him in recognition and look at each other, unbelieving...and other than that, total blank.

Please help me redeem myself!!! Thanks!

You've got a record player? I had one up until about 5 years ago until it crapped itself when I was in the army. Perhaps someone spilled a drink on it. I dunno. I love the sound of vinyl. That crackling nostalgia. So so sweet.

Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :

Yes, i still have one. Itīs been in a closet for a few years now (you know the reason why)
but i just dragged it out.

Nothing beats the sound of vinyl. Despite the advances in technology I still think that vinyl has a superior sound to the latest audio formats.

I haven't been on here in a while but I read someone is looking for the Back to School soundtrack. Way back at the beginning of the thread I pointed someone to the Back to School/Pee-Wee's Big Adventure CD that has the score on it. I also have the Back to School vinyl album with all the songs on it. I'm looking to sell it if anyone is interested.

I also have the very rare, limited to 5,000 from what I have read, My Tutor vinyl album that i'm selling.

I recently sold my Secret of My Success CD but it was a favorite of mine. I still have a bunch of soundtracks cassettes & CDs from the 80's-90's that i'm looking to sell if anyone is looking for anything.

Nice pickups. I really dig the covers. Saw Vision Quest yesterday at a thrift store called Red Rack, its a DAV(disabled American veterans). Grabbed it as soon as i noticed it. The record was in near mint condition. I should have bought it but didn't want to pay $2.48 for it. If I had a turntable that worked then it would have left the store with me.

Maybe you guys could help. We have 1970s console stereo, The turntable does not spin. Any idea how to diagnose this issue. Perhaps a belt? I do not know anything about them. Anyone...........Anyone
