I just tracked down a copy of this on dvd-r. It has been 20 years since I have seen it. It was a made for tv movie (true story) about a 7 year old boy, Steven Stayner, who was kidnapped and sexually abused for 7 years. He finally returned home to his family at 14 years old. Very gripping story. Anyone else see it?

Excellent flick. I was watching a movie several years ago called "Silencing Mary" and everytime Corin Nemec was on screen I kept thinking "Parker Lewis Can't Lose." Then the haunting images of "I Know My First Name is Steven" that was based on a true story came to mind.

I first became aware of this when watching some US TV awards show and seeing it cleaning up.....it was shown here in the UK about a year later as a two part mini series I think and I always thought it was brillant...

And my intrest in true crime kept me intrested in Steven.......

Very sad story Saint_in_London.

Valley, when Corin Nemec went on to play the part of "Jonas Quinn" on the sci-fi series, Stargate SG-1(one of my faves), it took me the longest time to remember where I knew him from....after-all, it was some 15 years since I saw him in this mini series.

Corin "Corky" Nemec as Jonas Quinn on Stargate SG-1:

I remember watching this on tv as a kid. My mom told us it was a true story and it scared the crap outta me. I haven't seen it in a long time but it's such a sad story.

This is such a good film that sticks on your mind 20 or so years later. I taped it from TV years ago (when it was shown in 2 parts here in the UK (as Saint_in_London stated), and dig it out once and a while to watch, I always shed a tear,

I finally got to watch this again the other night and it was a very good made for TV miniseries. I had forgotten about alot of the cast in this movie:

Luke Edwards played young Steven Staynor. He was the kid that played Jimmy in The Wizard.

John Ashton played Steven's father. Of course you all know that he was Taggart in Beverly Hills Cop.

I already mentioned that Corin "Corky" Nemec played older Steven Staynor and he went on to play Jonas Quinn in Stargate SG-1.

Jason Presson had a small role as one of Steven's friends when he was older. He had many roles in popular 80's movies. Some parts he played were Geno in Lady in White, McGeorge in The BRAT Patrol, and Darren Woods in Explorers.

Stephen Dorff had a cameo as well. No need to mention his resume.

The best of all though was....Ray Walston played the part on Steven's grandfather. He of course is the one and only, Mr. Hand from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I was shocked to see him here.

Amazing how one forgets little details such as these. I guess the fact that it has been 20 years since I saw this might have something to do with it. Was cool to see all these actors popping up though!

A cool documentary dvd also came with this set I found. It was the story of Steven's older brother, Cary, who went on a murder spree in his adult years after Steven died at the age of 24. This is a true story as well. I never knew this had happened and it was a very interesting story. This whole set was well worth the price and turned out to be quite a find!

This movie freaked me out when I was a kid! Seems like there were a lot of high profile kidnappings back in the 80's...remember McGruff? lol....Another sad part of this story is that Steven's brother Cary grew up to become a murderer of 5 women in the Yosemite area, and is currently serving a life sentence behind bars...Very tragic family.
