I had heard this movie was hysterically bad and- well, 'twas all too true! It truly was one of those so-bad-it's-good laff riots (although it took a good twenty minutes to really heat up and get funny).
It stars Lorenzo Lamas as a guy named CHILLY D (and , yes, all his clothes have the words CHILLY D emblazoned on them!) who CAN'T break dance or rap convincingly who hangs out in a local "club" his friends run and they all dance and rap and etc. And of course the Big Goal is for the crew to get discovered and Make It Big.
So Chilly D goes on a job interview type thing and finds out (through eavesdropping in on a phone call) that a posh new club is opening up and they will be looking for entertainment.
He invites the rich uptight white folk to his club to see his talented friends (and lemme take a minute here to point out that the Wow Factor on how well these people perform is only about 50-50. Some of them out right SUCK! but some are good. There is a little kid called Little Magick and he really CAN dance (but for some inexplicable reason during one of his Big Dance Numbers they speed the scene up and I said to my husband "I wish they hadn't done that cuz I actually wanted to SEE him dance, seeing that he's the only really talented person in the whole damn cast! And HE'S 8 years old!!!!"

Speaking of cast - have you ever wanted to see Fred from VALLEY GIRL has a mix-master DJ? You HAVE? Well, then THIS is the movie for you!!!!(Cameron Dye (E-Z) and Lorenzo Lamas are the only two people you are gonna recognize in the whole movie!)

So SOMEHOW Chilly gets a gig rapping at the new nightclub and he is horrible - BUT he's a hit!
Dont miss the scene where he dances under a blue light in white gauze and WHAM Glow In The Dark Wake Me Up Before You Go Go make-up while guys in glow in the dark skeleton outfits try to kick his *** through the art of dance! Hilarious.
This scene is to only be topped by another scene of Chilly performing in the club singing a song called Smooth Talker which was hysterical (and what made it even funnier was my husband started singing along to it! He had actually SEEN this movie before in the '80s - I know cuz he ruined the big "finale" for me - but if you've seen at least one dance movie I m sure you can figure out how this sucker is gonna end.

Do I recommend this movie? To anyone who likes to drink beer andf watch a movie through Beer Goggles and laugh , yes I do! I was thoroughly entertained!

I can definately see myself renting this again a few years down the line for a few good chuckles.

As A Serious Movie - 2
As A Funny "Whatever Made Lorenzo Lamas Think He Could Sing And Dance Flick??? - 7 1/2

Next: BEAT STREET!

I have not seen this one. Thanks for the info. You should write a review for this movie and copy and paste your post(maybe with some minor editing.) We need more movies up on that board to the left. [Wink]

It was listed as one of the worst 100 films ever made in Razzie founder John Wilson's The Official Razzies Movie Guide, hands down one of the funniest books I've read in recent years. Among the barbs used on it: "Since Lamas has all the natural rhythm and panther-like grace usually associate with Wayne Newton, we realize immediately this film is going to be a fantasy." and "Before long, (Lamas) is really busting moves and blowing away audiences with routines that look alarmingly like what happens when crash test dummies crash into walls in auto safety tests."

I think that this movie was awesome.

Just look at the fashion, the scenery and everything else.
This is pure 80s magic.

And the soundtrack is simply smashing!

This was my second Cameron Dye film in a row.
Yesterday i watched Fraternity Vacation.

Bought Body Rock soundtrack cassette for 1 euro couple of months ago and listened the tape yesterday.
Great, great stuff! Especially the b-side is amazing.
Baxter Robertson (who is this man?), Laura Branigan, Martin Briley and two surprisingly good Ashford & Simpson tunes.

Here´s the official Maria Vidal "Body Rock" theme song video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX3bG4hcU-g
