All right... enough of this love fest! let's bring on the hate [Smile]

What 80's movies, bores you, irks you, rubs you the wrong way... or just flat out chaps your nads...??

I'll go first....

Any movie with Tom Cruise, didn't like him then, and most def don't like him now (does anybody?)

FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF... I know it is almost blasphemy for an 80's movie fan to not like this movie, but I just don't dig it! John Hughes weakest, if you ask me!

DIRTY DANCING.... because... well, im a guy!

GHOSTBUSTERS... I know it's a classic, But I could just never get into it, for some reason!

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK... I love John C, I love Kurt R and Big trouble... is one of my favourite movies of all time. So why I don't like this movie is a bit of a mystery.... to myself as well!

Well, enough of mine for now, what are yours...??

teen wolf...alot of people love that movie and i love Michael J Fox's acting but...that movie just seems so ridiculous & it bugs me...

Probably at the top of the list would be Mac and Me. Even at age 6 I knew they were simply copying E.T. with less heart or concern for characters. Not to mention shoving McDonald's down our throats--yikes. I consider it a blessing from God himself that we had to leave the theater early to go to a Christmas party. Probably a close second would be Deal of the Century. It's always hard to see the people you respect in the cinema most sinking to the bottom, and why Chev even considered this confusing and flat story that not even he can squeeze anything out of (indeed what he was thinking at all during his "Dark Age" between Caddyshack and the first Vacation is anyone's guess) is beyond me. The same logic applies to #3, Speed Zone(!). Trying to force the last cent out of the Cannonball Run series when it was pretty much dead to begin with is bad enough; you know it's even worse when Candy's presence does absolutely nothing for it at all, particularly when you don't give him anything to do but walk around and wave at the camera (to be fair, the script may well have been changed without his consent after he signed on, which had also been the case with Going Berserk, the only other of his 80s films he can't prop up).

I agree with all of your picks, bad movies all around!

I got another one....

KRULL... what, are you kidding me? This sleep inducing snoozefest is considered some sort of a fantasy classic? Im still not sure if this was a sci fi or fantasy flick, but to be fair... I don't think the people who made it, did either!

ET. seriously never liked it.bored the flash gordon boxer shorts off me.

Posted by hewzy (Member # 6043) on :

JAYLEE im with you on that one mate !! Krull is just rubbish.
Ive tryed watching it so many times and i just can't get into it!!
All the reviews ive seen for it say that its a great film and in my opinion the film sucks..

Posted by Aruba4me (Member # 6258) on :

Dirty Dancing- I just never bought the hokey love story between Baby and Johnny and I'm a girl!

Karate Kid- I think it's predictable and boring. It must be a guy thing with this movie.

Caddyshack- I just don't see the humor. Must be a guy thing.

All of the Police Academy movies! What a waste of time.

Roadhouse. I don't mind a bad movie, but this is sooo bad!

Posted by JAYLEE (Member # 6345) on :

Right there with you, on the POLICE ACADEMY flicks, daaamn those were bad!

CADDYSHACK is decent, but doesn't deserve its legendary status in my opinion!

And ROADHOUSE is just bad!

Um, definitely not, it's been my obsessively all time favourite film for 20 years [Razz]

As for my least fave, it has to be Blade Runner.

Make it stop!!!

All of this blasphemy... Don't like Ghost Busters, Dirty Dancing, Road House, FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF!!! Say it ain't so.... [Eek!]

And who doesn't like Krull??? Everyone likes a good kruller [Wink] once in a while...

MAC AND ME was the WORST!

I have always hated TOM CRUISE too..he has always rubbed me the wrong way. Because of this Ive never seen TOP GUN (and I know that has a huge fan basis - but I wont rent it cuz I hate him!)

I hate hate hate ST ELMOS FIRE!

Also:

DIRTY DANCING
RED DAWN
FOOTLOOSE
FLASHDANCE

Posted by JAYLEE (Member # 6345) on :

Oh yeah... FOOTLOOSE and FLASHDANCE, hated those too!

That tractor chicken scene in Footloose is so laughablely bad... set to the booming sound of Bonnie Tyler's I NEED A HERO, really trying to pump up exitement, and then they are like going 5 miles an hour.... it's so lame!

It actually reminds me of that scene in Austin Powers, where Austin is approaching that one guard in a steamroller, and the guy starts screaming and puts his hand out, even though the steam roller is like 50 feet away.... funny stuff!

Here's a real bomb...
Batteries Not Included...that bit the big one junior!!

Other $hiteous picks are:
Private Resort
Date With An Angel
Playing For Keeps
The Burbs
Nothing But Trouble
Blue City
Reform School Girls

Posted by JAYLEE (Member # 6345) on :

Oh no you did not just diss THE BURBS!!!!!! the greatest 80's movie ever made!

Oh well, there's no accounting for taste... [Smile]

And this is the hate thread, so you are of course entitled!

Posted by NowhereGirl (Member # 465) on :

i think i am right in line with most of you..

i do not like DIRTY DANCING, FLASHDANCE, & ST. ELMO'S FIRE either!

aruba, i definitely feel the same way about THE KARATE KID. it does seem to be a "guy" thing? i just don't care for it.

whoa, cindy.. DATE WITH AN ANGEL is great! you really didn't like it???

i disagree about GHOSTBUSTERS & FERRIS though,, i love those movies.

i'll think of more i am sure [Smile]

Not my "least favorite"...but certainly the most overrated 80's movie I ever saw: "Out Of Africa"!

How the [bleep] did this snoozefest win the "Best Picture" Academy Award of 1985?

Aww, I still have a real soft spot for it despite all it's flaws due to it being the first film I saw at the cinema [Smile]

Oh I just remembered Driving Miss Daisy, one of the most boring films I've ever seen.

Maybe that should be another thread...

"Worst Oscar winning 80's movies"?

Already mentioned:
Driving Miss Daisy
Out of Africa

Posted by Helen_S (Member # 5804) on :

Yeah [Smile] hey I've just been looking at all the oscar winners of the 80's and The Last Emporer is the only one I think is really excellent, a couple of the others are ok too like Platoon and Rain Man.

Posted by Chris the CandyFanMan (Member # 3197) on :

Which is why I think audiences should have some say--not total say, but a large degree of it to go along with the Academy and the critics--a pseudo Estates General if you will. After all, what the point giving it to films that fall completely off the scope 10 years later as if they were never made? We watch it, we should be able to vote as well.

Posted by Aruba4me (Member # 6258) on :

My vote for worst Oscar winning 80's movie... "Chariots of Fire"!

I couldn't tell ya who was in it, or what it was about, I just remember guys running and it was BORING!

I don't know...I tried watching it and there was this weird sound effect thing happening and I got annoyed. In all fairness, I didn't watch it in it's entirety. Perhaps I'll give in a second chance just because I like Phoebe.

I dont like SCARFACE either. It feels good to admit it , cuz my husband loves that movie (Dont MOST men?)and I think he thinks I like it too. I just think its stupid, over the top and as much as I love Al Pacino I really did not like him in SCARFACE. No sir, he did not convince me!

Sorry Jaylee. Quicksilver is great in my opinion. Probably because I was really into bike stunts as a kid, as well as skateboarding. That's why I can't really label a movie "bad". Sure there are films I hate, but they are probably other people's favorites.

Posted by Gideon (Member # 6941) on :

I love Dirty Dancing. It's one of my all-time favorite movies. Ferris Bueller's Day off was one of my favs. too. I really liked Footloose and I haven't seen St.Elmo's Fire yet- but I want to. The Karate Kid was okay. I guess I probably would have not liked it if I hadn't of seen Ralph Machio for the first time in The Outsiders. I love that movie and i had never heard of Ralph Machio before that.
My least favorite 80s movie is definately Labyrinth.
Hated it with a passion.
I ended up giving it away.

The Doll Maker, made for TV, starring Jane Fonda.

Also, A Cry For Help: The Tracey Thurman Story, made for TV, starring Nancy McKeon.

Because of these two films, I avoid trainyards at all costs, and cannot watch Facts Of Life reruns without remembering "Jo" getting the crap kicked out of her by her abusive onscreen ex-husband.

I agree with the people who didn't like Dirty Dancing, but I probably can't remember many of the 80's movies I DIDN'T like because I never watched them again. On the other hand, I watched the ones I DID like over and over again.

I remember not liking Def Con 4 that much.
I wasn't crazy about Karate Kid 2 or 3.
The Boy Who Could Fly bored the crap out of me.
I didn't like Arthur but I liked the sequel.

Posted by Gideon (Member # 6941) on :

I don't think i liked Labrynth that much because it just wasn't believable and the whole 'goblin' thing was just kinda weird.

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

I can't stand Vampre's Kiss w/Nicolas Cage. I watched it when it came out because I liked him and horror movies. It was like they couldn't decide if it was horror or comedy and they didn't do justice to each genre. As a vampire he was just a disgusting slob, I watched it recently just to see if it was half as bad, it was and then some.

I liked Labyrinth much more as a kid. I watched it again recently and it really didn't appeal to me like it used to.

GHOSTBUSTERS was over rated as well as Breakfast Club (but I did find that Ally Sheedy was very mysterious looking in a totally Hot kinda way)
TOP GUN was a chick flick to me and all it was good for was Home theatre salesmen to sell speakers by showing the same jet scenes over and over.

But. If you Don't like CADDYSHACK or POLICE ACADEMY then I'm sorry, We can't be friends...
