I think mine's National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I sure miss Chevy. I think my favourite scene is when Clark's on his own in the loft watching old home made videos from the 50s to the Ray Charles song 'Spririt Of Christmas'.

Mac should really have been Oscar nominated that year (not necessarily the win, just the nod). Cynics tend to deride HA as pointless nonsense, but like with everything else in Hughes's universe, there's so much more to see beneath the surface. I simply love Kevin McCallister as a character; he's good hearted and hard working and willing to unconditionally accept responsibility for his actions (name just one child in film today with that capacity). It takes a lot of courage to stand up to 2 guys who despite their stupidity have clear intent on harming you. He does, and does it in the most spectacularly enjoyable way imaginable. And like many other Hughesians characters, his end smile means something, that giving another person the gift of company for Christmas is the greatest gift there is. Or at least until your brother ruins the moment (that's the only real drawback for me, that Buzz never does get his comeuppance on camera (although Mom did scream him down in the novelization when he cracked that Kevin might survive for a month a liquid diet)).

It begins and ends with A Christmas Story. Silent Night Deadly Night is also good. All the South Park Christmas episodes are good especially Woodland Critter Christmas.

My all time favorite Christmas movie is the Nutcracker Prince...paul schibli's. Haven't seen it in a while though. It was a Christmas movie ritual along with A Christmas story every year for years.

It's pretty good considering it didn't get too much press with an all-star cast. Steve's the master of the slow burn, and if you had to spend a night with a transvestite and Sandler playing a ukelele badly, who could blame him? Probably Juliette Lewis "emptying" the gun--and taking out Gary Schandling in the process--is the most amusing part.

Of Christmas episodes of regular shows, two stand out: Night Court's Xmas episode (I don't know the exact season) where they all get snowed in the courthouse and Bull freezes solid trying to go for help (leading to them hilariously trying to defrost him stark nude in a large barrel, prompting a great take from the fire chief when help does arrive), and Alf's first season Christmas show where he cuts up the Tanners' tree, then gets stranded in the woods with Willie trying to cut down a new one ("If I'm not back when Santa gets there, I'll sue you.")

I own six different versions of "A Christmas Carol", with Alastair Sim's as my favorite. Also have ones with George C Scott (1984), Reginald Owen (1938), Seymour Hicks (1935), Albert Finney (1970), Henry Winkler (1980's). Also have one with Patrick Stewart on VHS. My second favorite next to Sims' in An American Christmas Carol" w' Henry Winkler...wacth this one every year. I also have Scrooged w' Bill Murray. Wondering what everyone else's favorite is, aside from Sims'. And...are there other versions I don't know about?

Forgot to add Fat Albert's Christmas Special and The Bear Who Slept Through Christmas. Also, I've alwyas avoided buying "It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie" from 2002..I think. Anyway, I seen it at the store for $5.00 so I bought it...I was pleasantly suprized...pays homage to lots of classics like It's A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, and The Grinch....I'd recommend it.

The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant and David Niven is now a firm favourite at our house, discovered during a bout of acute It's a Wonderful Life fatigue which left me yearning for an alternative Christmas classic to watch every December.
Also Dear God with Greg Kinnear, which I swear was called Dead Letter when I first saw it on TV, one of those "Christmas in LA" films that's a lot more enjoyable than it has any right to be.

Most of mine were already listed.
Gremlins at the very top of the list. I love everything about this movie, but most of all is the use of the town of Kingston Falls itself, from the old movie house, to the snow packed everything right down to the closing shot of the old man walking away from the Peltzer home on a moon-lit, snow covered street to that kooky theme music.
I think I saw Dear God once when it first hit video and I really don't remember much about it, but will have to take a look at that one again. I didn't remember that it was Christmas movie which is cool.
Of course I love Die Hard, A Christmas Story, National Lampoon Christmas Vacation...who doesn't, but in the last couple years, I have also picked up:
Trapped in Paradise - which is just brilliant, Lovitz, Carvey and Cage at their absolute best and with a great supporting cast.
Just Friends - Ryan Reynolds is great in this one.
Surviving Christmas - Which to me is the most underrated Christmas movie ever made. Hilarious from start to finish for my sense of humor.
I always round out my holiday movie watching with between Christmas and New Years by putting in The Poseidon Adventure!

I think A Christmas Story is the best. There are a lot of deep meanings that I've missed until my recent adult years. Ralphie tries to get his Christmas wish heard by every adult around him (his mom, Ms. Shields, Santa) except his father. And it ends up being his father that hears him, gets him, and fulfills his wish of owning his bb gun. There are more, but it's fun coming up with them on your own. That whole movie captures the magic of being a child at Christmas (even though Santa can sometimes be scary.)

* Anybody ever see "Christmas Story"...no...not "A Christmas Story". Seen it at Walmart and am tempted...looks to be about a young Saint Nicolas growing up and how he began the traditional gift giving at Christmas...carving wooden toys and giving them to the village kids. I'm tempted, but $16 a bit steep for something I'm not sure about.

Jay Lee - I love Where Eagles Dare! I own it and remember when I was like ten and thereabouts, I would get to stay up and watch it with my dad as the Saturday Night Late Movie on ABC. It would be on in the winter and would start at 10:30. Seemed like we watched it once a year for a few years there and I have truly fond memories of it.

Childhood favourite was 'A Christmas Story'. I seem to have seen 'Scrooged' more times than I can count over Christmas, which makes it feel important. I have wonderful nostalgic feelings for 'Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus' (the Charles Bronson version), but I haven't seen it in years, so I can't really say whether it's good or bad.
But to me, the most Christmassy of films is... 'Anne of Green Gables'. I watched it one Christmas when they showed an episode a day. To me Anne of Green Gables is Christmas.

I agree most of us have more or less selected the same sort of movies as these are the ones we remember the most during the festive season, i guess its because they are always shown around this time of the year, the ones that stand out the most in my opinion are the lampoon movies, gremlins, scrooged and one of my favourites willy wonka and the chocolate factory, these are always shown here in England every year during the christmas period, it just wouldn't be christmas without them. My favorites are A CHRISTMAS STORY (I watched it once already about two weeks ago. Plan on watching it at least two more times. hahaha) and CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS. Im at the Mercy of television with this one, as I used to have it on VHS and havent sprung for DVD yet.
I have never seen MIXED NUTS. I heard people on here and another site I visit praise it so i rented it.
As for horror:
SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT and SANTAS SLAY.
I also love the Old School RANKIN BASS ones, the MR MAGOO one, SCROOGE and HOME ALONE. Have to try to squeeze this all in in the next two weeks.
