Well, kiddies, it's a little over a month until Halloween. We've discussed favorite horror movies and scariest horror movies. So I thought we'd talk about those obscure horror flicks we like that a lot of other people haven't heard about. We all know Halloween, Friday the 13th, and the Elm St. movies. But what about those lesser known ones? I mentioned on another post that I found Funeral Home on Ebay. I watched it and it was pretty good for such an old movie. I found The Hearse and Mountaintop Motel Massacre on Amazon. I remember seeing the Hearse years ago,but not Mountaintop.

So what are your votes for obscure 80s horror?

Razorback. A really creepy, well done Aussie film about a giant murderous pig [Big Grin]

Funhouse has a strange sort of appeal for me.

Helen_S,

The thing about pigs is that, they WILL eat you if they want to. Talk to any pig farmer and he'll tell you; don't pass out in the pig pen because they will attack you, and consume you.

YUK!!! CREEPY!!! [Eek!]

I saw a blaxpoitation movie called SUGAR HILL where someone got threw in the pigpen and eaten...and I didndt believe it possible! Really? Are pigs that dangerous? Who knew?!

A few lesser known gems I like:

THE OTHER: One of those good twin, evil twin stories.

THE CHANGELING: Man moves into new mansion only to find its haunted by a dead little kid

PEP SQUAD: Really strange Black Comedy twist on Teen Horror Movies.

Is Mountaintop really good? I've heard good and bad reviews. I bought it, but haven't received it yet.

petty, have you seen this one? if not, you should.

Posted by The Wizard (Member # 533) on :

Pulse (1988) - a demon in the wires which is a little similar to Ghost in the Machine (1993)
From Beyond (1986) - perfect halloween horror fodder material, scary creatures 'leak' in from another dimension
The Tomb (1986) - egyptian treasure seekers get a bit more than they bargained for (warning: high cheese content)
Brain Dead (1990) - trippy & surreal journey through someone's (Bill Pullman) visions as his mind is being manipulated (or something, I did say it was trippy & surreal)
The Brain (1988) - a big alien brain tries to control the world by first starting in a small town

I have stacks of obscure 80s horror flicks, the problem is they're obscure to me - I can't find half of them because they're buried under other VHS tapes!

I've never seen Sorority House Massacre, but I've always wanted to. Is it any good?

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

Yes...it's really good. I love the cast in it, and I love the cast in the movie:

The House On Sorority Row-which I never would have known about if it weren't for Cindymancini.

I am not sure what category I would classify these under but I also like:

Silent Rage
10 to Midnight
The Seduction

I watched the movie The Legacy a few years ago-that movie use to scare me to death...my brother wouldn't go under water in our swimming pool the one whole summer after seeing this movie, but when I saw it recently it didn't scare me as bad as I thought it would, and I never knew until recently that Sam Elliot and Katherine Ross (who star together in it) that they are married in real life.

Does anyone remember the movie

"I Spit on Your Grave"

I can't remember if I actually ever saw it...but I remember seeing it in every video store I went in to, in the 80's, and everyone talked about it, I remember reading the back of the movie box and thinking it was too disturbing for me.

But, I had friends that I know watched that kind of stuff...they loved horror movies.....and I think they rented it...but I probably hid under a blanket during it , and can't remember it.

The movie that use to scare me so bad...was

Salem's Lot....I still to this day can't watch that movie...just because the previews traumatized me as a kid.

Sorry...didn't mean to scare you [Embarrassed] You should try to watch it if you can, it is really good.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I never watched it ever....because of the previews of the little kid floating to the top window in the house, and he was scratching on the window saying "let me in".....I swore he was outside my window waiting to get me...every night when I went to bed....so I think I'll have to pass on it...I have passed on it for almost 30 years...It won't be hard.

Since I should have nightmares tonight from that photo....I just want to say...thanks in advance... [Eek!] [Eek!]

Salems Lot is truly a great example of 'scary'....something about the creepiness of fog and floating kids....and I love how they challenge religion in that movie..James Mason's character is positively skin-crawling.

Oh yeah, I forgot this one....Near Dark with Jenny Wright and the creepy kid from Teen Witch, what's his name...Joshua Miller! Check this or One Dark Night with E.G. Daily!!!
