80s films seem to be littered with robots usually with acronym names. Which was the best and which was the worst?

The wost in my book was R.A.L.F from Flight of the Navigator. What a heap of junk.

Now I think about it they were ALL pretty annoying. Jinx in Spacecamp - annoying. Johnny 5 - annoying. That thing in Rocky IV - annoying.

Can anyone think of a cool one?

Does W.O.P.R. count? If so, I'd probably go with it, with Johnny 5 a close second.

R2D2 or C3PO were best, closely followed by the service robot that David gets a ride in out to the ship in Flight Of The Navigator.

You summed it up great. The Terminator, Robocop, and Johnny No. 5 top my list!

I like B.B. from Deadly Friend too.

Just want to take back what I said about all the robots being annoying.

I think I'm still upset that my Tomy Omnibot couldn't actually make me a cup of tea and clean the house.

It's interesting that in the 80s everyone assumed that domestic robots would be commonplace by the 21st Century. But in reality we just have computers performing most of the same functions.

The crucial difference is that computers don't have a personality. I'd much rather have a Johnny 5 or R2D2 scuttling about the house!

Does anyone here love their computer, have a name for it and dress it up in funny clothes? Or is just a functional item that sits on your desk that you shout at on a regular basis?

Oh and to Paul -

You liked R.A.L.F???? He wasn't even a proper robot! Just a motorised tea trolley. Oh well to each his own!
(I suspect that it was Sarah Jessica Parker you liked really [Wink] )
