No, not "One Crazy Summer".

So this is what I remember: A guy is obsessed with the prettiest girl in the school (I know, pretty original concept) and he basically puts on the full charm offensive in an effort to woo her. He gets a little help with this from his best friend though, who just happens to be a dorky girl with a crush on him.

All this culminates when he takes his love-interest into some sort of gallery, where he unveils a drawing/painting of her. But then the chick goes like "It's not me you're in love with, it's that female friend of yours!"

Gasp! It's true, he thinks, so he runs outside only to find her standing there. He takes of her big, geeky glasses and - lo and behold - she's gorgeus! Kissing commences and then the credits roll.

Good stuff, from what I remember. Anyway, does this sound familiar to any of you guys?

(Love the website by the way, it's so great to find people who share the same obsession.)

I should add:
• I think it was made in the early 80's, it might've been late 70's even, but considering all the genre clichés it felt more like an 80's movie.
• This might sound crazy, but I think Mark Hamill played the lead guy. Or at least someone who looked a lot like him, because I haven't been able to find this film among his IMDB credits.

Apart from the glasses and the instant gratification of the true-lurve interest, yes it is.

bazookajoe, I think you're mixing up a couple of movies here. One is definately Some Kind Of Wonderful, the other one could be one of a number of "geeky girl loves boy loves preppy prom queen until geeky girl *takes off glasses / *lets hair down / *wears a dress and not dungarees (delete as applicable) and then boy sees geeky girl for beauty we all knew she was all along" movies from the decade...

Haha, well I've clearly gotten things mixed up during the 15 years that has passed since I last saw this. Thanks for the help!

I can't believe it was written by John Hughes! How could I have missed that?!
