Please help me remember the name of this movie.
It takes place in a Dune/Mad Max Thunderdome type setting.
I remember a guy who meets this annoying younger girl and she follows him when he doesn't want her around. They walk through a desert type location with a thin layer of poisoned water that they can't drink even though they are dying of thirst.
They get to a type of city and the guy goes through this deadly type of obstacle course for some reason. It is for the amusement of onlookers and gamblers betting on whether or not he makes it out alive. Any idea what movie this is? Thank you for any help.

Sounds like a mix between that and The Running Man.

Thank you very much for the replies. It was Spacehunter. I found it on Amazon.
It isn't listed on the 80's movies list on this website. So, that is one that needs to be added. It is a really good Sci-Fi B movie. If you liked Ice Pirates and Mad Max...you'll like this.

No offence but please don't put Mad Max in the same category as Ice Pirates.

Yeah, Mad Max sucks compared to The Ice Pirates.

Psych! [Big Grin]

On the subject of 80s sci-fi, I got Space Raiders a short while ago and it was really great to see it again because I remembered it so well from when they showed it on tv when I was a kid. I wish they'd do a DVD of that with the same dedication to detail as they did with another of Roger Corman's films (have you seen just how many films he's been involved in?!), Battle Beyond The Stars.

...bug in a beer can...
