I don't know if this has been done before (being a new member) but after reading Flashback80's poll, I thought it only fair to have one for the girls too! So girls (and maybe some boys).. who was your favourite dreamboat?
Johnny (Dirty Dancing)
Michael (Lost Boys)
Iceman (Top Gun)
Brian (****tail)
Adult Josh (Big)
Henry (Raiders..)
Charlie (Mystic Pizza)

AAAAAHHHHHH This is a no brainer for me and those of you who have been around for a while already know who I am gonna say, so that I don't make them nautious about talking about him again I will only give you his initials: J.R. movie: released in 1984!!!!!!!!!

I would have to say out of those choices, it would be Michael from the Lost Boys- hot looking, but a good guy at heart!

I know he's not an 80's icon by any means, but
does anyone think Eric Roberts was/is sexy??

Posted by eightieschick (Member # 4385) on :

Eric Roberts= HOT! And I mean sizzlin'! Just caught him in a Lifetime movie last week with Anne Heche, and he still looks mighty fine! I don't normally watch any Lifetime movies, but I watched it just cuz he was in it!

Posted by hbsjack (Member # 4639) on :

Totally aggreed!!! He's in so many 'no name' movies. I've been trying to collect them. So far I've only got the Best of the Best movies and 'It's my party' but I'm still looking for more. Did you ever catch him on that abc series 'Less Than Perfect' Yeah, he's still hot.

My sister has the hots for Eric Roberts. His movies are (usually) so bad that I just cant commit to watchin' em! (Same can be said of Richard Greico, another (one time) pretty face that made terrible movies).

Posted by annier (Member # 3305) on :

I quite liked him in "Best of the Best".
He looks better now though i think.

What happened to that Richard Greico guy? Was he in 21 Jump St. or one of those teen oriented shows in the late 80's? He has totally lost his looks- he doesn't look the same at all. Maybe he had plastic surgery or something?

Resurrecting this thread 'cause Muffy said so.

I would go for Hardy (Craig Sheffer/Some Kind Of Wonderful). Dating him would make me a shoo-in for homecoming queen.

I could never yell at my best friend [Smile]

16 Candles is one of my all time top ten.

Most of us relate more to Sam more than Caroline, and guys like Jake are expected to be with the Carolines.

What makes this movie so great, is that Jake has to WORK to be with Sam-he put more effort into getting to know her/chasing her down than someone popular like his character ever had.

At the time his looks reminded me of Matt Dillon-though not so much in other movies I've seen him in.

PS-My son's name is Jake [Wink]

Lloyd Dobler. How could you not love a guy who stands outside your window with a boombox?!

Wait... I thought I was Muffy's best friend! *SOB!*

Very easily. The line between romantic and creepy is a fine one determined only by physical attraction.

Logan you are a goofball! I can have more then one best friend hahaaa

and Bamersey your son's name is Jake! cute!

Don't get me wrong I love 16 Candles!! love and quote it often in conversations. I just never saw the Jake appeal....I never will sadly. I also know not everyone is on the Lloyd Dobler train like I am.......Would Jake point out glass on the sidewalk? [Smile] The boombox isn't even my favorite part of his character......I'd point out his quirky nervous phone/dinner table convo's before the boombox any day. [Smile] I fall for the sweet and funny guys every time!

I feel dirty. The dirt won't come off!

He has 'template' appeal. He says just enough to give him an emotional grounding, but not enough to ruin it by being a three-dimensional person. There's enough space for people to dream up what he would have said in the right romantic circumstances.

Lloyd was the big retro dream until 80's revision kicked in. I think there was a shift sometime in the mid-90's. I can understand the appeal of both. Muff, you keep loving the Dobler. Bam, keep loving the Ryan. As long as both you understand that *I* am your best friend in the world!

His nervousness is endearing. Doesn't hurt that he's cute either. I mean... If I were a girl I'd think he was cute... uh... not that I spend much time thinking about what guys I'd have sex with if I were a girl... not much time anyway... um...

I'm going to lift some weights.

Logan I like that "Jake has "template" appeal"

That's what it is! here's this guy that really is barely in the movie....barely a romantic lead....so I guess I never imagined more from him.....especially since the movie for me was such a comedy.....not really romantic comedy.

Dobler's nervousness was endearing.....it really is Cusack's characters that make him so handsome to me.

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

Is it just me or are MOST of John Cusacks roles guys youd want to date? I dont know if he just picks good roles or if its the fact its him (meaning if someone else had played the role would we still be attracted to the charactor?) OK...he was a bit much in BETTER OFF DEAD ...but still.....I cant think of any movie of his where I would run screaming. Maybe IDENTITY. Maybe.

So let me get this straight. Out of all the guys from the 80s, you all have narrowed it down to:

Jake Ryan, anything from John Cusack, and Eric Roberts?

classic! [Big Grin]

When I first saw 16 Candles I was about 14. My major crush in junior high had been a guy named Tim-he was my Jake [Smile] Part of what made 16 Candles so great for me was I could identify with Sam chasing the dream-and she got him!

It was more about finding yourself worthy of the "ideal" than the person being the ideal. Hope that makes sense [Smile]

If we were talking to little 80's Muffy I would have said Emilio Estevez! I had the biggest crush on him and Jason Bateman. I even wrote to a Emilio Estevez fan club out of the back of a teen magazine and got a signed B&W photo lol it was totally a stamp! yet still I wish I had kept it.....all the kisses rubbed the photo white i'm sure [Wink]

I agree with BAMERSY . I KNEW a "Jake Ryan" in highschool. He was so beautiful and cool and 'above it all' and it seemed like an Impossible Dream...and I started hanging out with him and we DID end up going out! (The Lesson I tell my daughter is EVERYONE usually keeps away from The Beautiful Ones cuz they think they dont stand a chance, so when you actually let them know you're interested sometimes there can be surpsising success stories!)

Both probably. He picks characters that are obviously likable, and he looks good (without being too handsome) and seems like someone you'd want to hang out with.

Shazam. It's all because of the magic.

It makes sense. But dreaming you're worthy of the ideal doesn't really work out that well most of the time. You either are or you aren't. Then again... there's always magic. Shazam.

Yeah, but you were a STONE-COLD FOX with great taste in music / movies.

Check: Can't win. Don't try.

It's not exactly something you can overlook! Even as a wee bairn I could see that Bowie was smuggling a little snack for later!

I think everyone does. A masque ball inside a snow-globe that runs just the right balance of melancholy, romance and fantasy.

Fantastic! I wondered how they pulled it off. Now they'd just use CGI.
