This seminal Aussie film (released in 1980/81) about surfing and two 'chicks' wanting to learn to surf, beautifully summed up the Aussie surfing culture. From Cronulla to the Cross this was one of the first movies (directed by Bruce Beresford - Black Robe, Double Jeopardy, Driving Miss Daisy) that mirrored the Australian surf culture. Kathy Lette (now living in London, a best-selling author and married to Geoffrey Robertson) always joked about the fact that during her days as a beach bum, if a girl was going out with a boy she would cut out his name in paper and stick it to her stomach with suncream, so that she had a tan outlining his name. Kathy's joke was that if she ever had skin cancer after her days as an aussie sun worshipper she would have a melanoma named Bruce. The panel vans and the music bring back many a memory!
