Is this movie good?

Posted by Jessie the Sunflower Goddess (Member # 1877) on :

Oh yes, absolutely. I found a very rare VHS copy of this at a retail outlet store several years ago, I think that people probablly thought something was wrong with me because I think that gasped outloud. Oh this is definately worth it. Did you find a DVD or something of this? If so you have got to tell me where you found it. I love this one!!! Good thriller.

No I had to buy a vhs from www.half.com it ran me about $8.00.

Posted by Jessie the Sunflower Goddess (Member # 1877) on :

Was it a new copy or a used copy??

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

Pretty sure it was used.

I never even heard of this movie...but I'm reading Leonard Maltin's Video Guide and he gave it 2 1/2 stars. Once I heard Diane Lane was in it I figured it should be pretty good.

Let me know when you end up watching it.

I sold a VHS copy of this a few months ago for about $20.00.

Great movie.

here's another one i've been longing to view over the years lady beware starring diane lane, anyone else out there got any oppinions on this one.

was released here in the u.k by medusa home video who always used to have cool artwork to there video covers.

the only thing that has stopped me from purchasing it is there's never been a dvd release so the vhs has always been a bit on the pricey side.

worth watching anyone?

It is worth at least one look. Diane Lane is young, looks good, and is nude a bit. It is kind of a paint-by-numbers stalker film with a feminist slant: Lane attracts a psycho by her lewd department store mannequin window displays. It is fairly cheap and dated, but it encapsulates the 80s in Pittsburgh, where it was filmed. I don't think Lane wants to remember it, and I doubt that it will ever turn up on DVD. If you have a VHS copy, burn it to DVD and hold onto it. [Smile]

Iīm a big fan of 80s Diane Lane but havenīt seen this one.
I know that it was released on VHS here back in the day.

Diane Lane is da bomb, aTomiK! If anything, I think that she has gotten even more attractive as her career has progressed. She is a terrific actress--and you can see that in this early role too.

3 years later from my original post and I still haven't managed to watch this movie,I think some movies are just not destined to get the DVD treatment.

I know it's available on vhs but I don't fancy spending a small fortune on a copy.

Looks like it's going to have to be YouTube or nothing if I ever want to get round to seeing it.

I havenīt found a copy either. The finnish vhs tape seems to be surprisingly rare.

I have the same with Three For The Road (1987)..

I never saw the movie back in the heyday of the video era, and i doubt there will ever be a (decent) dvd release.
I know it's on Youtube, but that's just not the same.. [Frown]

I know it's not the same, but for a movie like Lady Beware that will most likely never get a DVD release, Youtube is the way to go. I watched it again last year for the first time in decades, and I liked it even more than I remembered. It's a time capsule piece--and Diane Lane is gorgeous!

currently watching this on youtube, the copy is not that great but i've gotta say so far this film seriously rocks,i really like it.

i normally always like to watch a movie in its entirety but it's nearly 2 in the morning here in the uk so i'm going to catch the last 40 minutes or so sometime tomorrow but if it lives up to what i've seen so far this is going to go down as being a really entertaining watch!

I'm glad that you are enjoying it, YW. As I said, I watched in again for the first time in decades, and it was even better than I remembered it. The low budget here didn't mean low style. It's a good looking film, Lane is great, and I do like the little feminist empowerment angle. This really deserves a DVD release.

i really enjoyed - lady beware in the end,i thought diane lane looked super hot here and i liked the craig safan score - https://youtu.be/2t7LpG4g40Q ,also michael woods was seriously slimy as the stalker and you seriously wanted to see him get his comeuppance which when it comes is a lot of fun - i loved it when lane's character puts his picture up all over his neighbourhood with the word 'pervert' underneath it!

pittsburgh looks like a great city, you get to see the pittsburgh funicular in a few scenes which looked pretty cool, there are couple of seriously daft moments throughout - woods abseiling down from the roof top of diane lane's high rise apartment, plus when she goes to confront her stalker for the very first time all by herself.

 -

all daftness aside though this was a really enjoyable erotic thriller with the beautiful diane lane and a standout performance from the suitably creepy michael woods.

i knew the great robert tepper song - restless world - https://youtu.be/uINCKrPgG1s featured in the movie - lady beware but i wasn't prepared for the sight of michael woods dancing to it in a towel - very disturbing! [Big Grin]

great fun! 8/10.

Re-reading this makes me want to watch this one again, it has been so long.

Excellent review, YW. You are spot on. And the Pittsburgh funicular is indeed very cool. The movie completely captures pittsburghgirl's and my favorite city at the time.

This is a very cool movie. Well done, Thread! -

I think that Diane Lane has gotten even more beautiful as she has gotten older. And what a fine actress she is too.

Posted by Johnny Roarke is reckless (Member # 9826) on :

Of course that's what i meant to say, yes..

I just got a little too carried away. [Big Grin]

Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :

Understood. It's easy to get carried away with Ms. Lane. She's amazing! [Wink]

I remember the cover!I am going to have to see if I actually own this movie. What is so weird about this one is that I got this mixed up with the movie the Drifter (1988)with Kim Delaney. It had a similar story line with creeps and beautiful 80's brunettes. I think I own one of these movies, but it has been so long. They really should make a huge box set of movies that never made it to DVD. If they released an obscure Lane movie like Ladies and Gentlemen the fabulous stains (1982), why the heck wouldn't they release this?

Watched Lady Beware and itīs a pretty good erotic thriller.
Lane gives a good performance and looks stunning. I also liked the other leads Michael Woods and Cotter Smith.

Director Karen Arthur has made mostly tv-movies but did solid job. She wasnīt happy with the re-edits the studio made.
I was surprised to see that this was a Scotti Brothers production. I know them very well because one of the best bands in the world, Survivor, was on their label back in the 80s.

Like warrior said, the film has some problems with pacing and logic but like i said, itīs pretty good stuff.
Itīs fun that another window dresser film with a gay character as a co-worker was released also in 1987. This was of course Mannequin.

You can see the Scotti Bros logo on the finnish vhs cover sheet

Yeah. It's a pretty good looking movie, but the copy on YouTube is all washed out. But I guess it's something since this movie is impossible to find.

Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :

Yeah that's how I had to watch it in the end was on YouTube otherwise I don't think I would have got around to watching it in quite sometime as like Crash mentioned it's pretty scarce with probably only just the odd VHS still doing the rounds!
