Wow...I was lucky enough to catch this one on HBO tonight, at least parts of it...was there ever a movie that just ripped your heart out and left you contemplating man's inhumanity to man like this one?

This movie was one of my first exposures to worldwide cinema [courtesy of my faithful little arthouse that's still going strong over 20 years later...shout out to the Spectrum!] and there was this really cute guy in it who showed his really cute tushie at one point...perhaps you may have heard of Mel Gibson? It left me wanting to learn more about WWI, Australia and that really cute guy from down undah.

Naked tushies aside, this movie is entertaining along the way to a heartbreaking ending that never fails to deliver no matter how many viewings. That's why I love movies...no matter how many times I see one that moves or just plain entertains me, I'll see it again and feel the same way.

I've seen this a few times, it had a young Mel Gibson. Something about WW1 trench warfare just breaks your heart. The sheer futilty and attrition of going up over the top in a suicide charge. One of the costliest battles ever for the Aussies.
