I am looking for an 80's rock 'n' roll movie about a lead guitarist in a band which falls apart after the keyboardist dies of an supposed overdose...the band reunites at a battle of the bands contest where the guitarist goes out on stage and begins doing the band's song solo...band joins on stage. The guitarist's girlfriend hears the song over the radio at the drive-in where she works; the band's original singer who has signed with another band comes out to sing the tribute song...I think Keanu Reeves was in it, but my husband says no....please help!

Dont know if its the same one but Keanu Reeves did star in PERMANENT RECORD about high school students. One friend (the "guy who had it all") kills himslef leaving all the other kids saddened and asking "Why?" They wanna do a song he wrote at a school graduation (?) and the principal says "No". They go out and start another song and then little by little break into the song of the friend who committed suicide. This might be it. Check www.imdb.com
