I just got done watching this movie with Lori Laughlin, and it was pretty scary. Sean Cunningham directed it, he did Friday the 13th. I saw on here The Wizard had written about it before, and said it was pretty violent.

I had never heard of it before, I just happened to pick it up at the Vintage Video place.

It was made in 1985. Lori Laughlin was so cute. The guy that played her brother-Loren- was played by Shannon Presby-I never saw him in anything ever, I looked him up and he only made a couple movies.

Their parents are killed in a car wreck, they are only in high school, so they go live with their uncle in Florida. The uncle owns like this carnival place called Funland, but it had a ton of Santa Claus stuff in it, so it kind of went with the whole Xmas thing.

But, this group of rednecks they try putting the moves on Abby (Lori Laughlin) and she wants no part of them, so they retaliate against the whole family. It was pretty wicked in some places. It was really good for the type of movie that it was. Eric Stoltz is in it too.

One of the bad kids-Gideon-he is played by John Philbin, and I knew he looked really familiar, I looked him up, and the thing I recognized him from was in Children of the Corn, he's the guy who is sacrificing himself on his birthday. He's a little creepy looking to me.

Has anyone else seen it? I like the beginning scene when Abby and Loren are running with their Dad before he's killed.

There are some scenes that scared me on how creepy people are, and how someone can hurt another person and be so unremorseful about what they are doing. They did, and tried to do some horrible stuff.

James Spader plays the head of the bad guys, his name is Dutra in it, and he is so wicked, and scary. He plays a creep really well, ya got to give that to him.

Cool, I am glad someone else finally commented on it.

I thought it was pretty creepy stuff. I don't know if it is one I can watch over and over again, but it definately was really good. Thanks for reminding me of it again. I was thinking my mom might actually like watching it.

Isis, it's weird that this topic resurfaced just now. Greg, my friend, found a VHS copy of The New Kids at a used cd store around here. I've never seen it but we are planning on watching it in the next few days. I will definitely give you my thoughts on it once it's been viewed. I mean, it has to be cool, James Spader and Lori Loughlin are in it!!

Hey I have never even heard of this one. Did you rent it or buy it? This might be one worth checking out.

New Kids.. another winner from James Spader! (before he got all classy on us he did these teen movies.) Loved the hair though. And he was one sick mofo.

An underappreciated film for sure... How can this not be on DVD yet? Just with the cast in it, should get it some recognition in DVD format.

This was a disturbing film, the scene where the dog is lying with his throat slit really made my skin crawl. James Spade was such slime in this. Funny, I just recently watched a similar movie called Bullies with Olivia D'Abo in it. The same kind of disturbing out of control/delinquent villains. Sheesh.

Is this them movie about a brother and sister that just moved into a new town and the local bullies pick on them? I think I saw this in the 80s...

Thanks Valley...

Yup, I'll have to check it out again... I love that I'm still finding movies I haven't seen in a while or ever from the 80s... [Smile]

It's decent... not a great movie! I was expecting more from Cunningham!

James Spader made a pretty good bad guy, maybe some parts were slow but it was hard to find it boring with that gun toting finale.
