[Smile] Hello! I'm Shadow of a Rose and I finally got a chance to sign up for this board! God I miss the 80's and when I found this site it was just like a dream come true! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Well enough with the reminicing...then again mabye not [Razz] Any way when I was a little girl my dad would take me to rent videos from Blockbuster every Friday night. So I rented this one aninamated film that took place in china I think.

In the begining of the film a boy is playing a flute and is charming a white snake, cut to a few sceans later the boy is now a young man who lives with his two animal friends a panda and a fox. The panda is male and can fight while the fox is female names Mimi. Strange as it is she's the only charecter who's name I can still remeber.
Anyway the boy (let's just call him Ping for the moment okay?) goes off to serech for this beautiful girl. Mimi and the Panda get separeated from their Friend/Master and are trying to find him.

next comes a really cute dance scean with Mimi and the Panda in a bamboo forest and for some crazy reason I can still remeber most of the words in the song even today but I'm not even sure if it was really sung in Chinese. (I'm african amaerican and can speak only English). After the dance scean the two pets get lost in a market place whre Mimi accidently runs into a duck. The duck was female and was stealling food until SHE bumped into Mimi. Suddenly a big pig who's the Duck's leader shows up and either he or the duck hits poor Mimi over the head! Anyway the panda gets mad and challeges the pig to a fight to become boss because if he wins then the theiving animals will help them to find Ping. They fight and the panda wins.

Back with Ping, he finally finds the girl that he has been serching for but she's standing on the edge of a cliff! He runs up tp her but she vanishes like a ghost and poor Ping fell over the cliff! Luckly he's not dead but badly hurt. He's soon found and taken by a kind monk to some temple or so.

The girl turns out ot be a goddess or spirit of some kind and was also the white snake that Ping charmed as a boy. She's also in love with him but wants to be human for him. She soon learns of what happend to him and gives up her immortality for a special white flower that will save his life. So she hops into a boat with her friend a girl spirit goddess in a blue kimono and hair tied up in little buns on the side of her head. They sail off towards the temple where the monk is praying over Ping. At frist he must have taken the goddess as being a demon coming to claim the young man's life and uses magic to make the waves crash very high up and nearly drowning the now human goddess. Her friend gets mad and jumps into the water and transforms into a fish but get's knocked out but wakes up on the ocean floor after the fish revive her.

The next few sceans had something to do with the pet plus the pig who tags along and everyone running on a brige or something I'm not sure. Any way at the end the monk relizes that the goddess does love Ping and lets her use the flower to heal him. He wakes up and everyone follows Ping back to his home and eveyon one lives happily everafter.

So does anyone know this film's title? I'd really love to know it's name so that I might be able to find it again. It was a great movie. [Smile]

If you have either the time or the patience, you could try searching under 'characters' for Mimi on: http://www.imdb.com/ [Confused]

maybe you should look under Japanimation.

I really don't think Rose is going to understand that answer, cause that wasn't the name of the film she was looking for...

Anyway...Rose...I think it is great that you wrote alot of detail, and can remember that much detail, that will make it even easier for some one to identify. I am sorry but I don't know the name of that film, and really would like to help you out. I have alot of short films by Chuck Jones, like Rikki Tikki Tavi, A Cricket in Times Square, he did others like The White Seal, and I swear he did one about a Panda, if I think of it, I will look at Rikki Tikki Tavi, because they show clips for other of his movies, that I never saw, and I will get back to you, and there weren't many people that did animated films, and it sounds exactly like something he did. I will see if I can find out more. Good Luck.
