When i was 5, i got my first Hi Fi, and so i rushed out to buy my first LP to play on it, ym aunt came with me and picked up a Roy Orbison compilation album and said, oh i remember him i loved his songs. and i said great ill take it, didnt care what it was i just wanted an LP.

Maybe it was a lucky choice but i was hooked from the first time i heard it, i loved them. Later in life he became much more of an idol when i became interested in playing music, and his music made such an impact.

Sadly the reason that compilation was in the charts was because he had died that year (dec 6, 1988) in the middle of what was a massive comeback,

Any other Big O fans out there?

Not really a big fan Baz, but a fan all the same, Roy Orbison had such a smooth and melodic voice, that every song he made was gold. I do have one cassette tape when he was with the Travel Willburys, Volume 1, which was released in 1988. Yes it was very sorrowful that he had past on in what seemed to have been one of the best and most successful comebacks in music history.

On a side note:.. My husband and I used to go to this irish pub here where they had karaoke nights, and the owner used to always sing Roy Orbison..she was great, and would always let me pick out her songs for her..my favorite was Crying. Her's was Pretty Woman. If you have ever seen the movie Hiding Out, you will remember they play the song Crying when Jon Cryer and Annabelle Gish were in the roller rink. I really did love the version he did with k.d. lang..it was very lovely. [Cool]

I am a big fan. I love Roy Orbison's music and he's from Texas too. The small town of Wink, Texas if I'm not mistaken. Have you ever seen that black & white concert of his?

Yeah thats right, born in Vernon, Texas. The family moved to Wink when he was 10, and formed his first band, The Wink Westerners when he was 13.

The Black and White Concert was amazing, one of the best ive ever seen with an amazing line up of stars backing him, from 1987, the best things are from the 80's lol
