There are the common ones that we all talk about all of the time like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, Dirty Dancing, Footloose, and so on.

But what film do you feel does not get enough credit and deserves it.

Some of my feelings are really high about Once Bitten. I cannot imagine Michael J. Fox in the role of Mark Kendall, but he was once sought out for it. Jim Carrey seems so innocent in it. I think it is truly becoming a classic.

What do you all think?

There are alot of great movies that I think are excellent, and alot of people have never seen or heard of them.

Liar's Moon-Matt Dillon and Cindy Fisher, it is a perfect movie, it has humor, love, drama, tragedy, and was so well done, anyone who sees this movie, should love it.

Touched by Love-with Diane Lane, I am so glad I finally got to buy it and see it again, this was a perfect movie. It has Michael Learned and Deborah Raffin in it, and the children in it, that play actual real life handicapped kids, did their job at acting better than most actors that do many many movies. Diane Lane's part was so great, she should have won an academy award for that part. It is such a tear jerker. I think anyone should love this movie too, if I could get a 10 year old boy to sit through it and love it, then it appeals to all ages.

The Wilderness Family movies- I love Robert Logan, I watched those movies when I was a kid, and wanted to build a house in the wilderness, and live out there away from all of the world, and be carefree, but hopefully not be eaten by grizzly bears and wolves.

There are so many...I like movies that have a feeling to them of being real, that don't feel like your watching a movie.

White Water Summer with Kevin Bacon is a required summer viewing for me. Whenver I introduce it to someone they fall in love it.

Umm...Hiding Out, Jon Cryer flick.

Maybe....Big Trouble in Little China, only aquired a cult following, but could've been the next Indy Jones style series.

I would have to list a few..

Bachelor Party
Moving Violations
Malibu Bikini Shop
Fraternity Vacation
Miracle Beach (an 80s movie trapped in 1992!)

I always thought Moving Violations was really funny but now it's seems that everyone has forgotten it. Oh well, it's a classic to me.

Explorers, great kids fantasy flick. When I was wee, I used to watch it every night before I went to bed. Back then I was more partial to Ethan Hawke, not River. Funny huh?

Devolution here,

Ali, I can honestly say that you rock. Moving Violations, a cinematic tour De force!!!

Grease up the rear end and go fifty on the highway.

It's so great.

As for Jon Cryer, Morgan Steward's coming home, fantastic.

And Hamburger the Motion Picture.

My additions:

Youngblood
Making the Grade
Wild Life
Hiding Out

Youngblood was a pretty decent hockey flick, Rob Lowe and patrick Swayze were pretty good in it. Also liked the small role Keanu Reaves had, also NHLer's like Peter Zezel and Eric Nesterenko.

The last three are just balls out fun, always loved Making the Grade with Judd Nelson and the Diceman.

I agree with DEVO about Moving Violations and Hamburger the Motion Picture. It is funny how you forget about some films until someone mentions them. Then you are taken back to when you watched them in the 80s.

Another vote for Jon Cryer in Hiding Out.
Certainly, this was one of the most underexposed movies of 1987. I barely remember seeing or hearing any advertising for this film back in '87. Less than Zero came out about the same time and received tons of promo time. Too bad. I think Cryer's career would have been much different if the producers had given it its due.

I think Class should be considered one of the great brat pack movies! This movie was awesome!

Wow Devo you not only like Moving Violations but Hamburger The Motion Picture! I just made my boyfriend watch that the other day. I have an old VHS copy that I taped off HBO.

Now I got that stupid song in my head...

"Hamburgers for America".... or something like that. If I'm wrong I'll just go sit in the giant pickle while secret sauce is dumped on my head.

Posted by Devolution (Member # 1731) on :

Devolution here,

Ali, I have it taped also. I know all of the words, to the movie, not just the songs

The song they are listening to in the pickle...

"America, your getting burger hungry, hungry for the bruger that makes you full. Your Chomping for the taste of Buster Burger, our famous Buster Burger that's full of Bull."

I know the whole thing, that is the first verse.

We are DEVO

At Close Range is so underrated. It has the best ending ever. It really does deserve more credit. Lots more. Lots.

I'm sorry I was thinking of the movie Making the Grades.

for 80s horror I like Vamp and April Fools Day. A real cult classic that none of my friends but one has seen is Student Bodies. as for comedies? Secret Admirer and Just One of the Guys.

Wow, At Close Range, was a great movie, Christopher Walken and Sean Penn, excellent flick. I can never remember the young gal that played in it, but I love watching her in any movie she is in.

Hiding out, one of my all time favorites, great sound track too. Jon Cryer is an excellent actor and comes from good stock. He studied acting abroad in London I believe.

An 80's movie that deserves more credit...Hmmm..Flight of the Navigator was pretty good as a kids movie goes, but there are quite a few of them out there. I think the 80's were ruled by the brat packers and some real kick *** horror flicks. If I am going to watch something and reminsce about life I am going to pick, Pretty in Pink, Dead Zone, Lost Boys or a John Cusack Movie, preferrably Better off Dead or One Crazy Summer. But then again there are the Nerd Revenges and of course Porky's, so...I think its a personal preference, I really cant choose one in particular..to quote Molly Ringwald to Annie Potts in Pretty in Pink.."Your going to overdose from so much nostalgia"..and I probably will..lol

There's some good choices I've seen in this thread, a couple I'd like to add:

Biloxi Blues (1988), nearly all Matthew Broderick's films are great, and Christopher Walken does really well in this as a sargent who's going a bit crazy.

Knightriders (1981), in days of old when king Arthur was in power, his knights battled for him on their trusty motorbikes!. It is a long film at nearly 2.5 hours but worth every minute, great story, great acting (Ed Harris plays the main character) and really great motorbike stunts. One film I want to review.

Christopher Walken rocks. Pretty much anything he's been in is good.

I agree. I love Christopher Walken, he's agreat actor. He makes every movie he's in so much better.

I would like to add:

The Eliminators

That Was Then This Is Now

Crossroads

RepoMan (only ever got a cult following)

I am sure there are more but I need to think about it [Smile]

Yeah, christopher Walken is ok, except for that whole Natalie Wood thing...which I happen to believe. But hey, minor details.

Are you talking about her death? Wasn't Robert Wagner accused of her murder?

Posted by RiverPhoenix4life (Member # 1719) on :

Walken and Wagner were the only two others on the boat. Curious, that she happened to just fall off the boat and drown, especially since she was terrified of water. plus, in the dead of night w/ no people around, I'm sure someone woulda heard somthing. I did a whole report on this last year.

Scary, very scary. If its true, I guess Walken is kind of like his character in "At Close Range." [Frown]

Posted by RiverPhoenix4life (Member # 1719) on :

True that Eddie! Oh, I was recently watching Sleepy Hollow(as Halloween approaches) and realised that Walken is the headless Horseman. But u kno what? There was no credit for his character or him. huh???

Tootles! [Wink]

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

No. I didnt know he was the Headless Horseman. ha! now I'll have to watch it again.
I dont know the answer to the Natalie Wood mystery. There was a lotta drinkin involved...she could've really gotten wasted and fell in the water. dont know.

The Sure Thing
A Cusack flick that takes a backseat to his others in most eyes but I still love it.

Posted by Ali_with_an_i (Member # 27) on :

My old acting coach was in a fillm with Walken back in the late 80s. He aside from him smoking pot in his trailer at before every scene, he was one of the nicest people he'd ever met. He gave my coach lots of advice and was very kind.

The whole Natalie Wood thing will always be a mystery. Anyone famous that dies of other than natural causes will always have that cloud of mystery. People will always wonder if it was an accident or if he/she was really murdered. Think Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and the list goes on.....

Posted by RiverPhoenix4life (Member # 1719) on :

Very true Ali, and tho I don't think Elvis was murdered, I'm not entirely convinced that Monroe overdosed. My intuition points straight to the Kennedys. Call me crazy!

Ok, I love, love, LOVE "The Night Before" (1988) with Keanu Reeves and Lori Loughlin. They've finally started playing it on cable again and I can't stop myself from watching it every time I come across it. It's just so enticingly corny. It's one of those movies that I have all the lines memorized. Keanu Reeves plays a great dork - Winston Connelly. Lori Loughlin is the supreme bit*hy popular cheerleader - Tara Mitchell. AND the soundtrack is by George Clinton. [Smile] Unfortunately, a lot of people haven't seen it, much less heard of it.

I have to second "Once Bitten". I can't even begin to count the number of times I've seen this one. It was in the after school habitual viewing rotation when I was much younger. It seems though that everyone knows about this film since Jim Carrey is such a HUGE star now. I NEVER would have guessed in a million years.

Also, I really love "Seven Minutes In Heaven" with Maddie Corman, Jennifer Connelly and Byron Thames. Even though it's about 15 year olds, it really spoke to me when I was 13. It's a bit uneven but the emotions felt very relevant to a new adolescent. No one EVER talks about this one.

I LOVE The Night Before! I used to crackup when he brought her an Owl magnet! hahaha! That was such a cute movie! [Razz]

The night before. I love that movie. I watched it around the time it came out, and recently purchased it. A lot funny scenes in it. The bartender who spikes his drink was actually a wrestler called Zeus in the WWF briefly. I love George Clinton in the soundtrack too.

Anyone here like Plain Clothes (1988)? An underrated little comedy that I found was fun.
