I can remember when Galaxy Quest was called Spaceballs...

"No, sir! I didn't see you playing with you dolls again."
"So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

I think that my favorite spoof would have to be Student Bodies. It made fun of all those slasher flicks of the 80s. It was made sometime in the early 80s. It's a great flick, very funy!

I slightly disagree with the Wizard on this one. "Galaxy Quest" was a direct spoof of "Star Trek" and their no-life fans. "Spaceballs" was mostly a spoof of the most space sci-fi movies.

Ah but they're both spoofing the most popular sci-fi at the time of writing/filming, so in that respect they are similar.
Although Galaxy Quest came out in the same year as Episode I it wasn't like they could spoof it without great difficulty.

How about worst spoof of the 80s?

That cheesy movie "Coyote Ugly" was so obviously a rip-off of "Flashdance", however nobody really seems to talk about it.In fact, I'm not sure if anybody else even know.I remember when I was watching Coyote Ugly for the first time I remember thiking, "This reminds me of another movie. What movie am I thinking of?....."

Finally I realized I was thinking of Flashdance , and after I figured out what movie it seemed to be ripping the plot from I could actually predict what was gonna happen BEFORE it happened.

However, Flashdance was way better in my opinion. Much better music and actors, and at least it was being innovative. Did anybody else recoginze the similarities between these two movies?? If you've ever seen Flashdance, then watch Coyote Ugly and make yourself laugh that you seem to be a psychic and can predict the end of the later film.

I haven't seen "Coyote Ugly", but there is one film critic who admits that he actually liked it in a campy trashy way. His name is Richard Roeper, who is Roger Ebert's fellow critic on their TV show. He replaced the late Gene Siskel.

Roeper is younger than most well-known and established movie critics, so he probably has more of a liking to various 80's movies than most of his peers.

I remember the time when Roeper said that he enjoyed "Coyote Ugly", and would've given it "thumbs up" even if he never saw "Flashdance" and another movie called "Cocktail" (1988), which starred Tom Cruise. Roeper said "Coyote Ugly" is a movie "so cheesy, it's good", and later said the idea for this movie probably happened when some movie executive was thinking "Gee, what would happen if we remade that Tom Cruise 'Cocktail' movie, put chicks in the lead roles, and have a 'Flashdance' feel to it?"

Ebert said that he gave "Coyote Ugly" a "thumbs down", and then said, "Well, I didn't like 'Flashdance' or 'Cocktail' either!"

haha, well at least I'm not the only one who thought it was a gay-ass ripoff of Flashdance ( for all you non-Americans, "gay" just means "stupid", not "homosexual") =)

I agree that "Coyote Ugly" is a ripoff of flashdance, but I actually liked it, maybe because of the songs and... of course, the babes. I even have their poster in my Home Theater between Streets of fire and Starwars, but....well it's just me.

And what about "Center Stage"? it is also a Flashdance meets Fame Ripoff

For me, the best movie that spoofed 80's movies is "Hot Shots!" (1991), starring Charlie Sheen.

It especially spoofed Top Gun, the Rambo films, The Right Stuff, 9-1/2 Weeks, Platoon, and several others.
