Hi everyone, first post here. I finally got John Waters' Hairspray on DVD. When I watched it however, I was surprised to notice and edit in the film. During the Madison scene, the Birdland section of the dance was omited. I'm positive I've seen this in the film at one time. Does anyone know if there was some legal issue with releasing that full scene?

There was an edit during the Madison Time? That's too bad. I remember I loved that movie as a little girl and I had all the steps memorized. It was a big part of my childhood, that's why I wrote the page for it.Hmm,I have no idea why they would edit it.Does anybody else know?

Hey there, nice write up by the way. It occured to me this morning that I know the two dancers in London who introduced the dance to the Swing Community there in the mid 90s. I'll send a mail off to them and see if they remember the Birdland scene.

There is another step from the song called the Clevland Box, which also isn't in the cut. I don't remember if it originally was or not. I went through this same questioning when I got the VHS years ago. I'll post again if I find more info for you.

If you find yourself in London, check out the 100 club at 100 Oxford Street on Monday nights. They STILL do the Madison!

I would love to go to London some time, I've never been to Europe before, I'm an American. But if I ever get the chance to go, I sure will!

great, the club is a jazz club but on Monday nights, the London Swing Dance society hosts a huge Swing night. I think Its called Stompin. Many of London's best swing dancers go there to play. Its a hoot when the do the madison. I'm an american too, I'm from Boston. I actually live in Europe right now though. But I used to head to London Every October for the Lindy Hop Fest and would always check out the 100 Club. Hope you get a chance to go sometime.
