Cool! I saw a piece about Phillip McKeon (Tommy on the TV sitcom Alice" and it included a segment about how he auditioned for the role of Johnny in KK1. It showed him sparring with Macchio. McKeon wanted the role so bad he started taking Karate lessons and working out for weeks before the audition. He ultimately was told he wasn't selected because his height (over 6'2") made the fight scenes awkward.
