Is anyone else here a fan of River Phoenix, Corey Haim or Corey Feldman?

I think you would hard pressed to find someone who is not a fan of all three on this site [Big Grin]

Haha, where I live in the UK, and I mention River Phoenix they all ask me who he was. [Wink]

Pitty those people. Most likely though it would be due to their young age. Anyone who is over the age of 25 should know who River Phoenix is.

However, even the adults who I speak to, don't know who he is. It's a shame really, he was so talented.

He was very talented and it's great that you recognise that regardless of whether others do or not [Wink] Joaquin Phoenix is his younger brother obviously and used to go by the name of Leaf. He is in the 1989 movie Parenthood. He looks very different but you cant tell that it's him.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard that River Phoenix died. I was in shock! It was round the same time that Don Ameche die if I recall correctly.

Yes, I know Joaquin Phoenix, he is very cool, I've just brought his film Walk The Line, haven't watched it yet though.

What were you doing when River Phoenix died?

He died before I was born, if I think an actor has talent I'll go and watch all of their films. I've seen almost every one of River's films.

I've seen Parenthood, very funny!
Yes, I know Joaquin went by Leaf, changed it to that at the age of four, and went back to Joaquin at about the age of 15 (I think).

Walk The Line is decent.

I remember my mother driving me home from school when I heard the news. I could not believe it. I would have been 12 at the time.

Parenthood is classic! Well it's hard to say about his name because he would have been in his teens in Parenthood and his name is Leaf in the credits.

Yeah, I guess it would be pretty hard to tell!

I've seen a few of Joaquin's movies.

He is a very good actor but probably not nearly as good as what River could have been.

Posted by Chloe (Member # 37365) on :

Yeah.

What River movies have you seen?

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

Explorers
Stand By Me
Inidiana Jones - Last Crusade
Mosquito Coast
The Thing Called Love
My Own Private Idaho
Running on Empty
A Night in the life of Jimmy Reardon
I Love you to Death
Sneakers

That's about all I can recall off the top of my head...

Posted by Chloe (Member # 37365) on :

Wow! You've seen almost all of them!

What did you think of Jimmy Reardon?

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

It has been probably 20 years since I watched it. I don't think I thought much of it at the time but it's probably worth a revisit. It's difficult to give my honest opinion of it when it's been so long since I have seen it.

Fair enough! [Wink]
I thought it was pretty good!

What was The Thing Called Love like, I haven't seen that yet?

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

Again, it's been along time. I watched most of the movies when they came out and have not revisited them since. The one exception of course is Stand By Me but that movie is truly special [Smile]

Yes, Stand By Me is brilliant!

I love to hear of young 80s fans....I have friends in their 20's that care nothing of 80s movies. My Own Private Idaho is a good independent movie. ..really great River performance.

River was great. He died while filming a movie for George Sluizer, the director of one of the greatest suspense films of all time, Spoorloos a/k/a The Vanishing. I think Sluizer tried to finish the film, but he passed away last year. I thought River was especially good in the excellent Running on Empty, as well as playing Indiana Jones as a boy scout.

Director, George Sluzier did actually finish River's last film Dark Blood, however, he finished it in 2012, he had a condition or something that was life threatening, he wanted to finish Dark Blood before he passed, otherwise the studio would scrap the footage.

However, the scenes River didn't get to finish, George would then add narration instead.

I've seen Dark Blood, it was okay.
