Bacon. Actually, Val Kilmer can be really good--"Real Genius," "The Doors," "Top Secret," "Tombstone," "Heat," etc.--when he wants to. But of late, it seems that he's just collecting paychecks by doing whatever direct-to-DVD script is tossed his way. Bacon's almost always good. In fact, I can't remember when he hasn't been good in a film.

Or even a pre-bloated, pre-married-to-Joanne-Whalley Val Kilmer? His earliest career was certainly better than his more recent stuff.

Bacon has been good in some movies, great in others, but the sheer number of appearances mean that he's been forgettable in quite a few, unless you trawl through the list.
To put my $0.02 into the mix, I can't think of a single one of Kilmer's early movies where Bacon could have done a better job. Willow, Top Secret, Real Genius - never any good with Bacon. And whilst the same is generally true in reverse, I can sort of imagine Kilmer doing an OK job with things like The River Wild, or even (shocl horror) Footloose. Maybe that means that I Perfer early Kilmer to overall Bacon? I dunno. Maybe it means that Bacon did more generic acting roles (or Bacon with cheese, as I like to call them), whereas Kilmer made his roles his own - whether for good or for bad......

Val Kilmer did one hell of a good job portraying Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors (1991) and as John Holmes in Wonderland (2003).
For some reason i'm not really seeing Kevin Bacon doing a biopic kind of movie.

There was nothing wrong with him in Tremors. His best performances for me tho are away from the cheese. Films like Mystic River, Sleepers and The Woodsman.

Footloose - Ren Tremors - Valentine A Few Good Men - Captain Ross
..as well as his roles in Stir Of Echoes, Wild Things, Apollo 13, Trapped...etc. I haven't seen every movie, but I love how he tends to just pop up in films, playing small roles as well. For the most part, he can make any movie (for me) watchable.
I've seen Mystic River once, and I barely remember it, but I remember thinking it was great.
Oh I can't forget Bacon's strut when he walks.. ha!
As for Val, I haven't seen his work since Mindhunters, which I recall his character being small, but before that... I didn't see much after Ghost And The Darkness.. but I love him in Top Gun, Real Genius, Top Secret (which I didn't see until last year sometime), Willow and of course, Tombstone!

"Stir The Echoes" is such an underrated creepy crawler.

Kilmer - Two best performances are Tombstone and The Doors.
I think Kilmer is a better actor but I love Bacon too. He's even good in small parts such as Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Although he doesn't say anything, you feel his attitude big time. I also think Bacon is probably more iconic of the 80's too.

Guys, let's not forget Kilmer's excellent portrayal of legendary xxx-star, compulsive, manipulative liar, and junkie John Holmes in the 2003 movie Wonderland.
