Hey guys...driving myself crazy trying to find an image of an old toy I had as a kid, hoping you can help:

It was a kind of art / sketch set where you had different plastic segments you used to create, I think, monsters (Dracua, Frankenstein, etc)....you placed three sections together (head, body, legs) and the designs were raised so that when you put paper on them and scraped it with charcol, the image of the monster would appear.....kinda like putting a leaf under a piece of paper and scribbling so that the image of the leaf appears. You could change the segments around to create your own monsters, ie, put Dracula's head on Frankenstein's body, etc. I've seen similar things more recently in stores, but for Barbie fashions I think. Any ideas. I remember loving this as a kid and I think my son would like it. Any help would be great!

Oddly enough I remember the Barbie type Fashion Plates the most because my sisters both played with them alot. Yeah, I'll admit it..I dabbled around with them a bit too..lol.

I'm not too familiar with the monster maker plates however. I don't think I ever had one of those as a kid. This sounds to be like what you're describing though.

I assume you didn't know this off hand and spent a bit of time searching Pyro...so thank you very much. I Googled for a while and didn't come up with anything. This IS eactly what I was talking about. My son loves to draw/color and we recently picked up a new spiraldoodle set for Christmas which we think he'll love. When I bought it, I thought of this. I have fond memories of playing with this set and I think my son would love it. I bit pricey on ebay, but I may take a shot at one. Not sure yet if it will be for him or me....likely a bit of both! Thanks again.....

I'll do my best Muffy. My little guy will sit forever and draw/color/doodle....I may even buy shares in a paper plant as the litte dude goes through blank printing paper like it's goin' out of style. I really think he'd like this. Great score on the Pacman game! I'm pretty lucky at finding old treasures as well. About a month ago, scored a box of old toys at a yard sale for $10....likely worth about $200 +. I plan to sell the stuff on ebay...then I may be able to justify spending a bit on this art set.....

Thanking Pyro once again for his help with finding this toy....just scooped one on ebay for a pretty reasonable price. Though not in my hands yet, should arrive in a couple of weeks!

Not that anyone really should care, but.....me and my son are now the official proud owners of a Mighty Men and Monster Maker art set!!!!!Was originally planning to save this for Christmas, but the box was quite worn....playset in perfect condition...anyway, couldn't wait, and gave it to my son....he loves it just like I knew he would. And...I scribbled out a design or two, and, ummmmmm, doesn't quite have the charm I remembered.....darn, growing up sucks somtimes! Oh well...I envision hours of fun and something me and my son can do together. Thanks again Pyro...and please folks...don't look back....there will be no more Monster Maker updates!
