As a fan of the show from the first time I remember watching it in the 80s, I am one of the millions of people that are saddened by the news that ABC has canceled this soap as well as One Life to Live. When I was at the babysitters house when I was 7 or 8 I remember the particular lineup of the day.

The Price is Right at 10 a.m.
Young and the Restless 11 a.m.
All My Children 12 p.m.
One Life to Live 1 p.m.
General Hospital 2 p.m.
Followed by afternoon cartoons which included Scooby Doo.

My fondest memories are of AMC. I remember when Adam sneakily portrayed his kind and gentle identical twin brother, Stuart, and fooled everyone all the while being as sinister as ever. I also remember how Tad the Cad won my heart and the heartwrenching story of Jenny and Greg; Jesse/Angie (thank god this one got renewed again); of course the ever unforgettable Erica Kane. But as I grew older I saw less and less of the show only catching glimpses of it every now and again. I was also a big fan of Edmund and Maria--very powerful acting by Eva La Rue.

By 2005 after watching I Wanna Be a Soap Star I soon became hooked again. My favorite couple of more recent years was the original Babe and Jr. I have been a devoted fan five days a week for over six years now and by September that routine will no longer be a option. I am saddened by the amount of actors that made the move two years ago to relocate to LA that are now going to be out of a job. Not seeing those familiar characters that I have come to love is going to take some getting used to. I am going to miss Michael E. Knight, Debbie Morgan, Darnell Williams, Rebecca Budig, Cameron Mathison, and of course Susan Lucci.

Does anyone else have anything to say?

Looking at the lineup, was this before or after The Edge of Night was cancelled, or didn't the ABC affiliate in your area pick it up, as I'm told many affiliates didn't towards the end of its run (and would the same apply with Ryan's Hope?

Probably it was inevitable; soaps are a dying breed with demographics changing. Perhaps it was only the legacy attached to it that kept General Hospital afloat through this round, but given it's sunk as well (my grandmother, a hardcore fan for decades, frequently complains these days how the writing's gone off a cliff), it's day's likely coming as well in the foreseeable future.

I really didn't watch "All My Children" very often.. I grew up with my mom always watching "Days of Our Lives" and "The Young & The Restless".

Don't really watch either one anymore, but I went to a phase where I was a regular for awhile. I mentioned this before, but I remember suddenly seeing Grant Cramer on "The Young & The Restless" and as a fan of Scotty Palmer I was hooked while he was on the show. It didn't end well for him unfortunately.. like Lauren & Paul were meant to be.. we at least then they were. ha

Plus, TY&TR was used in brilliantly in "Mr. Mom".. so bonus points!!

Jessie sorry about your show getting cancelled.

Thanks Valley!

Chris--I actually do remember watching Edge of Night and Ryan's Hope but those were so short lived for me I really don't remember too much about them. I have to agree that they are a dying breed. If they have lasted as long as they have just think how long Reality TV is going to stick around!

When I found out, I jokingly called my Mom to see if she was OK. She's been watching All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital for as long as I can remember....35 + years. I was more a fan of General Hospital, as it was on when we came home from school....no choice but to watch it, and after a while, you simply got hooked....I even remember altering plans around my General Hospital watching. Was always familiar with One Life to live as well....we would always catch the end of that befor eGH came on. I actually find it a bit sad....seeing some of these faces for so many years has a kind of calming effects....something familiar I guess. I stopped watching General Hospital when I went to University, but even now when I'm at my parents....if the soaps are on.....I still like to watch for a bit of nostalgia....

* Harder for you I'm sure Jessie, as you're still a fan....sorry..... [Frown]

I watched AMC a couple of times. I was more of a General Hospital girl. I also liked One Life to Live--I think they cancelled it too?

Why would she? Her own syndicated show is going off the air in September.

I think maybe what Jessie means is that Oprah now has her very own network (OWN - Oprah Winfrey Network), so, why not pick up the cancelled show....Oprah also loves AMC and back in the day made a small cameo. It actually saddens me a bit....that I know this!?

Is this what you were thinking Jessie!
