There's loads I like but my favourite by far is Batman Returns.

I loved collecting comics as a kid, but was pretty mainstream...Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Daredevil, Iron Man, Hulk, etc. For the most part, if they turn any superhero into a movie...I'm goin' to see it. I'd have to say The Crow is one of my favs...didn't read the comic, but loved the movie....

See... when you say "top" but have a list that long, either you aren't very selective or you didn't mean to say 'top'.

I sound like I'm being mean, but seriously; what are the FIVE you like the most on your own list? If that's too tough, you can stretch to TEN. Be brutal.

Incidentally, from your list my faves would be 'Spiderman 1', 'Superman: The Movie'. 'Ghost World' and 'American Splendour'. I will add that I thought the original Incredible Hulk TV movie was very good considering the effects / budget limitations of the time, and so it would feature in any top ten comic-based movies list I made.

^This^. I was more of a Marvel fan comics-wise, though.

Lots of good ones there HarryC.

Iīd like to add some of my favorites:

The Punisher (1989)
Classic 80s Punisher flick directed by Mark Goldblatt and starring the one and only Dolph Lundgren.

 -

The ī04 Punisher flick with Jane and Travolta was also ok, havenīt seen War Zone (2008) yet.

Mystery Men (1999) is a funny comedy starring Ben Stiller, William H. Macy and Hank Azaria.

 -

I also liked both Swamp Thing flicks, cheesy and fun!

 - -

And even one of my favorites The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak
was loosely based on comic book.

 -

What about the Turtles flicks. Did you enjoy those?

Heavy Metal - it was just totally amazing to watch and listen to as a kid.

Flash Gordon - campy 80's that was a blast at the time.

Batman - The Dark Knight was a wicked flick.

The first Turtles movie was great and have you even read any Punisher comic books? i have and i thought Lundgren's movie was ok but no skull. I think Swamp Thing could benifit for a reboot and make it more like the Vertigo comics,

The Incredible Hulk (2008) is what i meant, not Incredibles. The Incredibles is an original idea.

"The Incredibles" is probably one of my fav animated movies ever. Which brings me to my neighbor that dressed his entire family including himself as The Incredibles the last few years for Halloween trick or treating.

Bravely awesome! and worth a Hershey bar for each family member from me .. Lloyd Dobler

So, it didnīt have the skull, i say so what.
Didnīt you just say on the other thread that you see movies as a movies?

thats aswome atomik - serious collector...well done to you mate. I read a few of the punihser and then got side tracked by shoalin Cowboy, have you heard of this one? Not an 80s comic though but i think this might appeal to you.

"American Splendor". Only partially comic-based, but more on the life of the strip's creator, the late Harvey Pekar.

Probably my favorite movie of 2003.

Yes Incredibles is awesome and not a comic book movie, i always see Mr. Incredible whenever i go to Disneyland/California Adventure 2 times in a month during my days off work.

War-Zone the sequel to 2004's Punisher adaptation is better than the first.

Did you know Ghost in The Shell and Akira are based on Japanese comics as is Oldboy, Ichi The Killer and Riki-Oh? Cemetery Man is also based on an Italian comic book as is Barbarella. History of Violence, 300, and Road To Perdition are based on graphic novels, did you know that?

Very cool stuff!

Iīve read 300 and Road to Perdition but i didnīt know that History of Violence was based on graphic novel.

Well History of Violence is a Vertigo comic. Kickass is also a Marvel comic and Ghost World is independent as well as The Crow.

Another one; 'Danger: Diabolik'.

THE CROW (1994)
 -

Now despite the tragic fate that befell Brandon Lee or the rubbish sequels that followed: The Crow is an atmospheric, and often beautiful, movie about life and death, revenge and redemption.

V: FOR VENDETTA (2006)
 -

A movie, and a warning to the world about big government and wars based on lies.

AKIRA (1988)
 -

The mother of modern sci-fi. I even wrote about it right here at the Rewind, way back when [Razz]

CASSHERN (2004)
 -

Also from the land of the rising Sun. Post World War III action as neo-human Casshern is ressurected to save humanity from itself.

BLADE (1998)
 -

Great entertainment, new vampires and the best vampire demise shots in the business. And THIS killer opening sequence still stands up over a decade later...

Blade Opening Scene

I guess Howard the Duck is based on the Marvel Comic haha

Howard the Duck is awesome!

Did you see Howard The Duck in theaters as a kid too? i did when i was 5 years old and loved it.

Posted by logan5 (Member # 1467) on :

I liked it when I was a kid. I hated the songs, though!

Hey Logan what did you think of the new Hulk movies? they are more true to the comics you know.

And in 2012 there will be a reboot of Superman coming soon in the mould of Batmam Begins. Christopher Nolan is helming as producer.

I was actually disappointed in both of them, I think the CGI has definitely hampered how the Hulk comes across. I read the comics a lot growing up, and while the TV show was very different, I really liked the motivations they gave Banner and I thought that having a real man as the Hulk gave the character the humanity you needed from him - a little like Frankenstein. I hold out hope for a definitive screen adaptation.

I'll be interested to see that. There's some real possibilities. I think the '78 version is virtually untoppable in terms of the caliber of people involved, but there's some real scope for re-imagining.

Posted by HarryCanyon (Member # 9143) on :

Hulk will return in The Avengers, will that be awesome or what? well CGI helped the Hulk because the technology back then wasn't possible to make him as big as he is in the comics.

What do you think of Batman Begins and Dark Knight?

I'm trying to stay objective about the possibility of an Avengers movie because I was a fan growing up. We'll have to see how the 'Thor' and 'Captain America' movies do first I guess!

I liked them. I was more of a Marvel boy, though, so my heart is always with those characters. It seems to me Batman always had the best graphic novels, and Nolan was smart enough to go and learn from them what really worked for the character.
