I may be in the minority in that I was not a big fan of the guy. His squiggly line and circle drawings all over the screen made it extremely annoying to watch a game. Nevertheless he has had a long, storied career and I wish him a happy retirement.......

I've never been a fan either. My parents still talk about those fits he would throw when he coached the Raiders. They said he would literally throw himself on the ground and kick and scream. I'd love to see some old footage of that.

I used to like him about seven years ago but his act started to wear thin and his retirement was long overdue.

He was the one who made me aware of the Tur-Duk-Hen which is kind of cool even though I've yet to eat a Tur-Duk-Hen

I liked his "Captain Obvious" approach to the game...

Here's my favorite one of his sayings:

"You see, as the clock ticks down, there is less time left in the game" [Big Grin]

"1st and goal at the 3 yard line. Three more yards and they'll have a touchdown."

Still, you couldn't help but love the guy anyway; he had a human side with his hesitancy to fly, and he could make even an obvious observation amusing (my personal favorite: Fourth and Inches Part II in 1995, all but begging Dallas from the booth not to go for the first down again, then lamenting after Philadelphia stopped them yet again that they essentially deserved to lose for such dumb play calling).

Who's going to replace him? Cris Collinsworth? I'm going to miss Madden, he had that everyman/fan kind of analysis that worked for him.

I can't stand Cris Collinsworth.
