Art Rooney, local owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, was named the new Ambassador to Ireland today by the President. He will be moving to Ireland soon. I wonder who is going to be overseeing the team while he's gone? He was literally at practice and in the locker room daily. I always thought he looked like someone's disheveled uncle- his hair is always unkempt and he wears those glasses that are 4 sizes too big for his face, ha,ha. But he seems like an alright guy.

He's gonna love it there... Good for him.

Shouldn't an ambassador be someone with international experience and diplomatic skills?

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

Hmm... do you even know anything about the man to make such a comment?
His ancestors are from Ireland, he is a strong supporter for peace in Northern Ireland, and also organized the American Ireland Fund in the 1970's.

Firstly, his name is Daniel M Rooney, not Art. His late father's name was Art, as is his son. But his name is Dan. Not Art. Dan.

In 1976, Rooney and Tony O'Reilly (former CEO of HJ Heinz and Co) formed the Ireland Fund. The American Irish Foundation had actually been formed in 1963 by President Kennedy and Irish President de Valera. The Ireland fund is merely an offshoot of the American Irish Foundation, and is only one of many Irish funds around the world.

From my reading, it sounds like he's been a wonderful campaigner for fundraising within the American Irish communities. The very first fundraiser was held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, and raised money for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. I know myself as someone who does a lot of fundraising for children's hospital charities, how much work is involved (of course, I'm nowhere near that level!)

As great as his charitable work is, it doesn't necessarily qualify him as an international diplomat. I'd never heard of the guy, wouldn't know him from Adam, and in fact I don't really care much who the ambassador is, because as you told me once before, since I'm not American it's none of my business. I wish him all the best.

And at least the new ambassador isn't Bono.

Hmmm.... I think the question should be "Do you know anything about the man?"

I apologize to all of the Rewinders who feel that I may have misled you into believing that our new Ambassador to Ireland is not a Rooney or from Pittsburgh, PA. I am not allowed to make a mistake here or anywhere else in my life. I have heard over the past few days both names on the news and radio : Dan Rooney and Art Rooney, his brother, both of whom are involved in ownership of the Steelers, but that is another story. God forbid I make a mistake and mix up their names. I am sure to be sentenced to hell for that one.

Posted by Stitch Groover (Member # 2895) on :

Of course you can make a mistake, I just didn't like the way you responded to my simple question. Instead of answering it, you just insulted me for asking it. That was my only problem. And I'm gonna respond in the same way, it might not be the most mature way to do things, but it made me feel better!

You do tend to have fairly snarky attitude towards myself and others on this site, and whether it's deliberate or unintentional, you don't have any right to complain when you are treated the way you treat others.

And I still stand by my statement that I'm glad the new ambassador isn't Bono! Coz nobody deserves that.

How could Bono be the American Ambassador to Ireland? I thought that he was Irish, and an Irish Citizen. Even if he had dual citizenship it wouldn't make sense. [Razz] [Razz] [Razz] [Razz] [Razz] [Razz] [Razz] [Razz]

John Stallworth has been added as an investor in the Steelers franchise. Some of you may remember him from the "Steel Curtain" days of the 1970's.

Here it is- the museum of bad album covers.

I have no idea how someone needed to rip me dirty about the Rooneys, and post some ugly trannie's picture and say that it was me.

Bono? The one who campaigns against Third World Debt yet moved his publishing company to the Netherlands to avoid higher Irish taxes? These higher taxes he would have paid would help his Africa mission according to this article. I guess he wants everyone else to fund his own personal interests.......

This thread started out one-way and ended up somewhere else entirely. Its out there (where every thread wants to be) like Chris Walken in the 'Dead Zone'.

Pittsburghgirl, yes you are going to hell for that error, absolutely no two ways about it. You & Denis Leary are going straight to ****ing hell: no detours, no redemption, no nothing [Wink] [Smile]

Bono's media image portrays him as a sanctimonious prick, I applaud his efforts to end poverty but lament his naivety because he hasn't done much research into the issues and ends up taking snaps with Malthusian mass murderers like George W. Bush (trust me Rewinders, that's gonna be the equivalent of smiling in a photo with Hitler). I won't say Bono’s a traitor to his own cause, but the headline writes itself: U2, Brutus?

OMG, this thread has turned into the funniest one ever! I asked a question that should have had a simple answer, and now I've been called "pompous", "blasphemous" (over a photo that I didn't even post!), a "sicko" and "sacreligious" !!

I'm so glad I'm not overly sensitive, or my apparantly significant left wing feelings (where the hell did that come from?) might be hurt!

Whoa, that's a pretty big leap... Do you REALLY view Bush as a warmongering Hitler? Bono doesn't go to third world countries to see first-hand what's going on in the world? Do you really think he's oblivious to what politicians really want?

One last thing. Did you know that George Bush's administration has given more support monetarily, medicine, medical, etc than any other administration in US history? [Wink]

You seem to like to start ****, but never finish it. So, please answer my original question of: Who is Joyce? and I don't mean that transvestite that you are so familiar with.
Why do you feel the need to jump down my throat for mistaking one brother's name for another. For Goodness sake, I have called my husband and his brother each other's names a few times over the years. And people are always calling me by my cousin's name because we look so much alike I guess.

Kash, I laughed so hard at that I almost peed my pants! Hey, I'll be driving the bus, do ya wanna join me? Ha,ha!

jdocster, I knew that about the Bush administration, but it seems as though the press and people of the US chose to ignore the facts.

Pittsburgh Girl, "it's a joke Joyce" is an Australian saying.

If you actually pay attention to the thread, you'll see that I didn't put up those pictures of "Joyce" or put up the link to that website. I'm not familiar with her, in fact I've never heard of her. So once again, get your facts straight before you start your crap with me.

And as far as starting **** and never finishing it, I've reported you to the mods multiple times for attacking Isis, which you seem to enjoy to a bizarre extent. I think you should look at your self and wonder why people might have a grudge against you, coz as far as I'm concerned you've bought it all on yourself.

I don't have a grudge against anyone personally. What's pathetic though is someone reporting someone else for a post on a great board. Develop thick skin. If someone says something deemed offensive (I use offensive sparingly here) to someone else on a forum board online then I'd shudder to think how they handle the real world. I think there's more than one individual who brings stuff on themselves. Just my 2 cents over and out........

Yet you've constantly ripped on celebrities appearances and lifestyles here on a regular basis. So how does that make you any better?

I also seem to recall a thread you started last weekend that got quickly deleted and rightfully so that pretty much disproves everything you just typed.

we're talking about two different threads. The mods deleted my post where I posted the links to your egg hunt. I was talking about the thread you started this past weekend that got deleted pretty quick because of some personal comments you made towards another poster here.

The initial comment that Goodfellasgirl made on the youtube link was posted a day before I ever posted the links here.

People have the right to freely post on any youtube link the same way they can freely post here since they're both public websites. If you have any problems with anything said over on youtube that should be taken up with the moderators over there.

For somebody who doesn't want the youtube links posted here you sure do a good job reminding everybody they're over there by bringing them up all the time.

Wow I missed so much while I was gone for a week!

Sammy is right- anything that you post on the internet is public domain. So if you don't want anyone to see your picture or see a comment you made, then you just don't put it out there for the world to see.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

Your weird....to be worried about what I am doing all the time...to even have gone on there looking at it....it had absolutely nothing to do with you...and if you can't stand me so much...why would you go somewhere that has nothing to do with you...wether it is public domain or not, I could care less about...the people that were looking at it...were there...and were apart of the whole day-your not a part of my life, your not my friend- for sure....so wether you wanted to go get a look at me...or what- I could care less....but when you start picking me apart for chewing gum....that is a person...who is looking for trouble and just wants to try and put someone else down, because they are insecure about themselves.

Then, to start a war on there...between you and another person- and call them the disgusting names that you did....your seriously messed up.

Every person that reads that...thinks your trash. Not one person reading that- is going to say- oh what a nice girl she must be.

You have managed to make total strangers think your a real piece of work- I already knew it.

Keep it up.....the more you write on there....the worse you look.

I saw the video and there were only about four people commenting on it and nearly 200 viewings so I guess four people is the "everybody" (yourself, 2 folks from on here and somebody else who probably knows you) mentioned. I think the point trying to be made is that when you constantly self-promote yourself in Oprah fashion (except your doin it on a message board vs. her always doin it on tv) about daily occurrences and goings on and happenings and blah blah blah blah blah blah and even have a video put on you tube that anyone can see there's always gonna be people who will say good things and bad things. And as far as someone writing more and being made to look worse, how is that any different than calling somebody trash in the third paragraph? That's not being a nice girl either. That doesn't exactly make the person calling the other person trash look like a saint.........

Are you kidding....???I don't follow you people around, and comment on your looks- I don't say your "disgusting", and that your friends are disgusting...and I don't make personal lifestyle judgments about you or the people that you know- that is what trash does.

And your right Motley-I have talked alot on here about myself...if that bugs you guys so badly-the last thing you should go do-is look at a video of me.

You seem to not get the fact that the Easter Egg Hunt- was done by myself and about 25 of my really good friends....they all read her comments-wether they commented on You Tube or not, doesn't mean they didn't comment to me about them-I see these people every day. There were close to 1500 people there....and not 1 person said one negative thing about it-except someone that wasn't even there.

Yes, I do see people being rude and making mean comments on You Tube on other video clips.
She wasn't there, she doesn't know any of those people, she is not my friend, so to go on there just to leave an ignorant comment about me chewing gum- which for the record -that's the first time I chewed gum in 2 years-since I have had braces all that time- and some kid gave it to me- to comment on something that minor-just because you have this URGE to make a negative remark, goes above and beyond this kind of stuff on the board-which I am so sick of.

With that being said how can you defend yourself for all the times you've said certain celebrities are a 'mess' or that such-and-such has 'mental issues'?

Bottom line is though that for as many times as you talked about your Egg Hunt here and then mentioning that there were youtube links you were going to pique people's interest to want to see them. No matter if they're friend, foe or indifferent people were going to want to see them; it's just human nature. If you didn't want certain people to see them then you should never have mentioned they existed. You could have just emailed or messaged those you wanted to see them and those who you didn't want to see them would have never known they existed.

Like I said before if you have a problem with the comments made about you on youtube you should discuss that with the moderators over there instead of fighting that battle here. Or at least have the radio station that actually posted the videos there in the first place take it up with the youtube moderators since they are in reality their links.

I get the facts that's not the point. You judge others but never expect to be judged. Sorta hypocritical. I should have saved those personal messages I received those times from ya where I was bein judged pretty heavily as others have received before I'm sure. If your so sick of negative remarks then why do you always make them? You still failed to justify it bein ok for you to call somebody trash but not bein able to be critiqued yourself. If I came on here daily and talked about what I did and said oh there's a you tube video up of me somewhere, it's human nature for anyone to look it up and I'd expect good and bad comments. I personally have a lot more things to worry about than comments people make I've never even met..........

I don't care if you went and looked at me on a video...what I cared about is the comments...do you not all understand that....or what??? Plus, if I wanted the link posted ...I would have done that myself...I don't need people to do that for me, especially people who don't like me posting personal info about myself anyway.

If I say negative comments about a person, it's about their negative behavior...that does not make me someone who cuts up people or a hypocrite .... If I said I don't like Paris Hilton, because of her lack of morality-I don't think that's exactly what commenting on me, and saying I am disgusting for chewing gum...doesn't even come close to being the same thing....

and 80s Rocked is right...I don't know anything about the Goodwill Ambassador...so this is my last post on this thread.

and I will have the You Tube video taken down if she doesn't knock it off...the only reason I hadn't done it yet...is I wanted to see...how big she was going to dig her hole...it isn't embarrassing to me, that someone who doesn't even know me is saying stuff like that...my friends all know what I look like, and chewing gum is not a mortal sin. Get a life, and quit worrying about mine, and if I want to chew gum or not.

But you started complaining about everyone knowing about the video before any comments were even made on the video. The hypocritical part comes from saying negative things about people be it their lack of morals or looks (you have mentioned looks of celebs before time and time again) yet becoming enraged when your spoken negatively of. I'm not condoning either one just saying that a negative comment is a negative comment be it physical appearance or what someone chooses to do.....

I just ordered my 'magical underwear' so to get in the total spirit of The Book of Mormon.

LMAO my mom's uncle and his wife are devout Mormons. He actually showed his magical underwear (he mail ordered them from the church and got them in the mail and opened them the day of the family gathering) at a family gathering at his house when he got them. His magics as he called them looked like a fruit of the loom t-shirt connected to a jock strap........

What are those "magical underwear" supposed to do for a person? I have never heard of them.
Do they come with a note from the Goodwill Ambassador?

This is my Barbie doll. Notice she is not chewing gum though, opting instead for a cool menthol cigarette.

Hmmm...

While I do appreciate some of the humo(u)r* in this thread --and some of it even made me laugh out loud-- I do feel that there's one problem that needs mentioning here, folks:

There are a lot of personal comments being made about people and thinly disguised hatred (or is there any disguise at all?).

I dont often have time to do any more than a little skip-reading of the boards, and I realise that boards inevitably become somewhat "factional" with various factions becoming irritated by other factions etc.. BUT please, people, can we just not keep making personal observations about people?

Its never, ever gonna lead to good things. It makes the site and these boards seem as cliquey and unwelcoming as the first day at a new high school and, thus, stifles new members joining etc etc.

I know its hard... I know a lot of water has gone under the bridge, but please lay off the personal stuff.

I'm gonna have a chat with the mods, who have the impossible task of dealing with this stuff on a daily basis, but If things dont improve, then I think we're gonaa have to implement a zero tolerance policy on personal negativity, which is lame, but it seems that the boards out there who rule with an inflexible, iron fist on this kind of thing are ultimately the ones that are full of life...
