It was a great performance, but I don't think it's really Oscar worthy. Even as a fellow Australian, I think the Oscar buzz has been caused purely by his untimely death.

I haven't seen every performance in Supporting Actor category, but in my opinion.....Ledger's role is Oscar worthy. Which brings up the next question: Should "The Dark Knight" be up for best picture?

Of course, you are talking to someone that enjoyed his role in the Muffy inspired "Ten Things I Hate About You", so I might not be the best person to answer this question. [Razz]

It was a great performance, that long fake laugh enterance was inspired work.

Valley, if Julia Stiles asked me to list ten things I hate about her, nine of them would have something to do with that movie, and what's Diane Lane's long lost daughter doing playing her sister?

Heath Ledger deserves the Oscar, who else are they going to give it to: Robery Downey Jr.?

"I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all."

btw, watch out for "The Goonies" Josh Brolin in this race. I mean he is wicked on training wheels.

absolutely oscar worthy performance!
i don't know if he was better than the other supporting actor nominees, because i haven't seen all those movies. if i had to guess, he'll win.

he did a FANTASTIC acting job as the joker. that's just undeniable.

I don't think it deserves an Academy Award for anything. I don't like that movie. He was good at playing a nut job.

But, I guess on the other hand...what else is there, and what else can compare to anything right now.

It sure wasn't Gone with the Wind.

His performance is more than Oscar worthy. I'd say the same thing if he was alive. Definitely not a pity Oscar if he does win which pretty much demeans the man by saying it in the first place.......

I wouldn't say Scorcese's was a pity Oscar. However I feel it wasn't his best work as he has had other movies that were much better. So maybe an Oscar awarded for lifetime achievement instead of given out of pity.

It would be a pity Oscar if he won...he was only mediocre in his role..nothing Oscar worthy.

isn't the goal of an oscar worthy performance to make the character believable? ya he played a nut job....duh...what do you think the joker is?

so if his role was so mediocre, who should the oscar go to then? has anyone here seen the other nominated roles for that category? if heath doesn't deserve at least a nomination, who should win, then??
