Firstly, I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year's Eve.

We had some friends of Sean's come up from Melbourne on the spur of the moment (about a 3 hour drive), so we had a barbie at the motel they stayed at (unfortunatly I burnt a couple of snags....) but overall it was delicious - snags, lamb chops, bbq steaks, marinaded chicken nibbles, rissoles, onion, mushrooms... the whole kaboodle!

I hadn't met these people before, Sean and his friend Dragana worked together years ago, and have a brother/sister relationship, so it was a lot of fun seeing the two of them together. Dragana's husband Dragan is from Serbia and has only lived in Australia for 7 months, and their little 16 months old daughter Dunja is absolutely gorgeous.

On the first night they were here, we took them out for dinner (if you want to know how diverse Australia really is, imagine a gay couple taking a Serbian family out to dinner at a Thai restuarant!)

But last night we had a relaxing bbq and talked the night away. Our town had a couple of firework displays at 9.30 and midnight, and we had a great view from where we were.

How about you guys?

What is a snag?

How does someone named Dragana meet a husband named Dragan? Is that a common local name over there?

Last night, we had some friends come over , we ordered pizza, and we exchanged Christmas presents with them. It was really fun. My friends have an 8 year old daughter, that I just adore, and she and I couldn't wait to trade presents with each other. I got her a Hannah Montana scrap book and photo album and a picture frame, and I put pictures in it, of things we did this whole last year.

My friend owns a gift shop, so my sister-in-law painted a flag for her shop, and it is a painting of her shop, and it says "Open" in gold letters, it turned out beautiful. She was so excited.

They gave me Season 2 and 3 of Soap on DVD, and she gave me a gift card for a local pizza place, and a necklace.

We watched a DVD, and played the Wii. Then I watched "Out of Bounds", until Midnight, then me and my husband and my son, drank some sparkling cranberry juice, and talked about what were our favorite things we did in 2008, and what we would like to do in 2009.

I am having a game party tomorrow night, and making all kinds of different dips and spreads and we are going to play games.

Low key for me...me and my wife and son were going to a small gathering of a few friends who each have kids around the same age...due to a bad snow storm, this was cancelled. Nice though, to be just the three of us for a chage...me, my wife and son. Watched some TV, played with toys, good food......very relaxing, and to bed at 12:15 AM...with not a sip of liquor..and no hangover in the morning!. Cheers to all.

Dinner and drinks with friends then to another friend's house for more drinks and snacks. I also baked for like a gazillion people for dessert and knitted everyone such neat little New Year's bags. Mannnnnnnn are my hands tired.......

Isis, a snag is a sausage... sorry I guess I forgot to turn on my Aussie filter!

Dragan and Dragana are not common Australian names, but these people are from Serbia, and I guess they are common names over there.

I have Seasons 1 and 2 of Soap on DVD already, I'm waiting for Season 3 to be released here.

I spent New Year's Day in a vegetatative state on the couch- watching Survivor: Australian Outback on DVD and enjoying a Bacardi Breezer or 4.

I got wasted with a couple of friends here at home. but first we went out to eat Chinese. I was up til 4am calling my friends who live out of town. My one friend said her brother passed out at 10:00! Poor girl. We had beer, wine, vodka, and of course, champagne at midnight. I put out snacks too, but no one wanted them since we ate so much at the Chinese joint!

Motley, you rest those hands after all of that work please. Hope you had a good New Year's,and I hope everyone else did too!
Oh, my neighbors are Serbs, so when I see them next I'll ask them about the names Dragan and Dragana. They are celebrating Christmas this week.
