It was on regular Tv tonight, so I watched some of it, I always loved the tornado scene. I remember when they played it on Tv every year, and of course we didn't even have a VCR back then, so we had to be at home and have had a bath and in our pajamas with a bowl of ice cream...tuned in to watch it.
I didn't realize that Judy Garland died of an accidental over dose, and that she was only in her late 40's...I thought she was much older.
It is cool to look up some of the old actors and actress of the 30's and 40's...to see how they dressed and what it looked like back then....so many of the big named actors/actresses had been married 5 and 6 times. I can't believe that The Wizard of Oz will be 70 years old...next year. All the people from the movie have all died.
The woman who played Auntie Em, committed suicide when she was 81 years old.
Margaret Hamilton always scared me as the witch, they said she use to be a kindergarten teacher in real life and after doing the movie kids were scared of her. I remember her in the coffee commercials.
I am the same way when this is on regular TV and I happen to be channel surfing. I will keep flipping back to it from time to time even though I have seen it so many times.

Not everyone's dead; about 9 or 10 Munchkins are still alive at the present, notably the Coroner (Meinhardt Raabe) and the leader (green suit) of the Lollipop Guild (Jerry Maren). A good read on the Munchkins in general is Stephen Cox's The Munchkins of Oz (now in its 3rd printing), in which he tracked down as many surviving midgets as he could back in 1988 and got their personal reminisces on the picture (there were no drunken binges, contrary to what Judy Garland herself unknowingly perpetuated).
Other interesting tidbits you may or may not know:
-the suicide rumor is definitively false. What may appear to be a person swinging near the Tin Man's cottage is really a large crane flapping its wings, one of several exotic birds they brought in for background effects
-Frank Morgan's suit as the Wizard actually belonged to Oz author L. Frank Baum. Further, the death date on the Coroner's scroll is Baum's as well
-the crow that lands on the Scarecrow's shoulder when Dorothy first meets him later made a further name for itself in It's a Wonderful Life
-in Baum's original tale, Dorothy's magic footwear were actually silver in color. MGM chose to make them ruby as red contrasted best with the Yellow Brick Road (along similar veins, Baum's Munchkins dress entirely in blue; MGM decided, clearly for the better, that it wouldn't be for the best to reduce the first color scene to a monochromatic wash)
Has anyone here tried synchronizing it with The Dark Side of the Moon to see if the rumors there are true? (I would say not likely given it could only be seen once a year when Pink Floyd recorded it, but then again you never do know. Regardless, I do wish CBS would pick it back up; it just doesn't seem quite as right on cable).

I agree! "The Wizard Of Oz" would be TONS better if it had some explosions, car crashes, burning big-rig trucks, a monster car chase, multiple shootouts, buildings blown up, and a sexy nude scene!

OK what Devo is speaking to is syncing up Pink Floyd's Darkside of the Moon to "The Wizard of Oz". I've actually done this and it is quite entertaining. The key is to hit play exactly when the MGM lion starts to let out his 3rd roar......then watch the magic. Oh you will need to put the cd on repeat because it will need to play 2 1/4 times to finish the movie. Some of the coincidences are shocking.

To me it's almost gives me goosebumps how insync it is....... to think,classic Pink Floyd and very classic well known songs. The band almost had to be watching it???.......Pink Floyd denies it to this day.
