My mother just told me this morning: I didn't realize he was that old (young at heart, I guess!) He was one of my favorite comedians.

Just 3 days ago me and 2 of my friends went on a little road trip, and we passed a place that my one friend said she saw George Carlin perform at, and I said did he say the 7 top dirtest words, and my other friend said ...what are they? So, it's weird that we just talked about him, and we said we wondered what he was doing now. I just found out about 1/2 an hour ago that he died...my mom heard it on the radio. He use to be on Thomas the Train.

What a sad day... He was one of my all time favorites. His play on words and view of the world was one of a kind. Pure comedic genius.

What a shame! I just saw him on HBO last week, and he's on again tonight. He will be missed. One of the funniest minds ever in comedy...

My favorite from Carlin is the HBO special "Jammin' in New York." The best part is when he was talking about the airlines and flying on the planes. Check it out:

Tomorrow night (Saturday, June 28), "Saturday Night Live" will pay tribute to George Carlin by showing their very first debut episode, which was originally broadcast way back in 1975. Carlin was the very first host of the show, while Billy Preston and Janis Ian were the musical guests. And Andy Kaufman made a brief appearance on that first episode.
It will be on NBC-TV, at 11:30 p.m.
It should be interesting to see the original "Not Ready For Primetime Players" again.

It's well rumored that Carlin did that groundbreaking 90 minutes completely pilled up; watching the DVD, I'd have to agree, but that doesn't make his performance any less enjoyable.
SLightly off topic, it's intriguing that despite it's aura as the beginning of something big, the Not Ready For Primetime Players were rather seriously underutilized the first couple of shows apart from Weekend Update (and even then it took about 4 shows before Chevy landed on his classic catchphrase to open it. Belushi was particularly disappointed he had little to do at first but the bee sketches, which he unilaterally loathed). On the other side, the Gorch sketches are still funny today, and you kind of wish they'd lasted a bit longer (the problem was union rules prohibited the usual Muppet writers from writing the sketches). Albert Brooks's films, though, simply seem too long and pointless, so maybe it's good they were dropped quickly.
