So today Madonna's new cd came out, Hard Candy.

 -

I heard some of the songs on my local radio station this morning. It's definitely a pop-dance cd (her usual stuff). It's loaded with lots of Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell (sp?) I wonder if her album will be #1..
What do you guys think? Anyone still like her or think she's over?
What are some of your favorite Madonna albums?

I really only like her early stuff. Love that first album with Lucky Star, Borderline and Burning Up on it. Anything after LIKE A VIRGIN I can pretty much pass on. there are a few random "newer" songs I like like Take A Bow or Frozen but not enough that I'd run out and buy the album. The newer stuff really - in my opinion - sucks. Around the time of Music I just gave up on her....I think her best years are behind her.

I agree MAMAMIA. I cannot even get into anything that she has done for about the last 10 years. She still looks absolutely amazing for someone who will be 50 in August. I wish I had some of her genes!

I liked some of her earlier stuff, like "Material Girl." After that, I didn't really like anything by her.

I was a really a big fan back in those good old days. However i will not pick up this one.And IMHO it`s time for her to put on some more clothes. It`s just so overdone year after year..Besides,i would hate to see her catch a cold..I`m obviously starting to get very old myself..

i totally see where you are coming from, bandit. i would rather madonna take the classy approach and quit running around in leotards and thigh-high boots. to be honest, she just isn't attractive to me, at least not anymore. but that's not even the point, i guess. her music doesn't really grab at me.
"into the groove" is my favorite all-time madonna song. as for her "later" stuff...."what it feels like for a girl" is awesome.

as for her best album, i would say it would have to be her first one. "lucky star", "holiday", "borderline", "physical attraction"... a few others too... amazing songs!

I also agree its time to puts some clothes on (what the Hell is she wearing in that Justin Timberlake video????) Just cuz you CAN wear stuff like that doesnt mean you SHOULD! (You too, Cher!)

I have to give her some credits though. She is an icon, and imo the one who started that provoking fresh new style, btw copied to boredom by any wannabe these days. And as a teenager at the time,i just never ever will forget that scene with the chair..

I do have the immaculate collection on dvd,and just love it.

But like you NowhereGirl,i would rather see her take the classy way out.

"Into The Groove" is awesome. There's a sexiness to it. I still rock it in the car or when I'm getting ready to go out on a Friday night. "Physical Attraction" is also one of my favs. Not too many people reference it. I remember watching Fraternity Vacation and "Physical Attraction" is played in that movie but it isn't Madonna singing...wonder what that was all about? Her version was SOOOO much better!

I really didn't care for her Music or American Life albums. Just wasn't feeling it.

As for other Madonna picks here goes:

"Burning Up"
"Everybody"
"Angel"
"Dress You Up"
"Open Your Heart"
"True Blue"
"Causing A Commotion"
"Each Time You Break My Heart"
"Til Death Do Us Part"
"Justify My Love"
"Erotica"
"Bye Bye Baby"
"Waiting"
"Thief Of Hearts"
"Why Is It So Hard"
"Sorry"
"Get Together"
"4 Minutes"

you really can't deny that madonna made a name and image for herself, practically all by herself,.. a true icon, indeed!

uuhhh, i haven't watched fraternity vacation in years.. i need to pull out that dvd and take a look. i don't remember the "physical attraction" part at all and how funny, it's NOT madonna's version? haha

In many ways, Madonna WAS the 80s... She influenced music, fashion etc... I can't tell you how many girls I've seen dressed just like her. In the 80s that is. Her best stuff was in the 80s.

Her 1985 Virgin Tour Concert was awsome!

I have never liked Madonna as a person. I did like some of her earlier 80's music ....my favorite songs of hers are:

Live to tell and Crazy for You

I saw the new video she and Justin Timberlake did...I thought it was awful. The song was awful, the video was even worse.

They showed people kissing...but you could see through their skin...it was totally gross...I thought...what's that all about...is that suppose to be romantic...???

It was totally nasty.

The whole video was dumb....I couldn't "get it".

What are they trying to save the world from?

Probably from Justin Timberlake

I've heard the new album and the only song besides 4 Minutes that I like is "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You." Her voice sounds more like it used to when she wasn't trying so hard. I hope it becomes a single...

I love Madonna, and especially in the last 10 years she has gotten so much better. Those singing lessons she had for Evita really paid off. She would never have been able to hit that big high note in Ray of Light otherwise!

The Confessions on the Dance Floor album was simply amazing... very cool new sounds mixed with the dance floor grooves where she made her name in the 80's.

I can' wait to hear Hard Candy. 4 minutes is IMO a great song, it gets caught in my head all day long. To me, the song is about what would you do if there were only 4 minutes left in the world? You'd grab a boy, or grab a girl!

I love her performance of "Gambler" from the Virgin Tour. It's powerful and she is really putting out alot of energy. Madonna, IMO, was incredibly HOT during this time period. She was "normal" looking in terms of not too skinny, not too muscular, cool makeup and fab clothes & accessories. Also, the music is just so much fun!!

My other favorite tour was Blonde Ambition but I recently watched the Ciao Italia Tour and was BLOWN AWAY!!! SOOOO GOOD!!! This woman sang live and danced like a maniac for the entire show!! I also like how she had just cut her hair short (reminds me of Jenny Wright's hair in The Wild Life). It was also the Sean Penn era and you can clearly see she is happy, totally in love and just enjoying herself. It hadn't gotten old for her yet at this point. I need to watch this again soon! LOVED IT!!! [Cool]
