i just saw a trailer for this last night. gere and lane teaming up again, since unfaithful.. it looked interesting.

The more and more they show the previews for this movie...the more I want to see it. My mom said that it is based on the book by Nicholas Sparks, he also wrote "The Notebook". I am going to go see it Sunday night. I am really looking forward to going to the movies....I really liked Diane Lane and Richard Gere in Unfaithful.

I haven't seen it...they didn't get it in my town. I am so mad....if I want to see it I have to drive 25 minutes from here.
I was at my friend's gift shop, and the owner of the movie theater said they never ordered it...yet he was complaining about how slow business was...and they don't know how they are going to make it. Well, I just don't get that...when they get a good movie ...for once, and don't get it...then they keep a stupid movie for 6 weeks. Who goes to see a movie after 4 weeks if it wasn't a huge hit?

I hear ya on the keeping a stupid movie for a gazillion weeks. The theater here had no problem having 15 showings of "Witless Protection" for 3 months yet they never got "Little Miss Sunshine."
P.S. Larry the Cable Guy your career called it wants it's money back......

i watched 30 mins of this movie and shut it off. BORING.
i thought it was my mood, but realized the chemistry wasn't there and the story was boring.

I did see it at the movies. I thought I posted about it, but I don't see where I did. The beginning is actually the best part- allthough I couldn't stand Diane Lane's daughter or husband...I have never seen a house built right in the sand on the beach either...so the whole house had to be CGI. I thought the story as to why Richard Gere is there alone - is really lame. He blames himself for the death of a patient. It could have been done much better. Their "love affair" is pretty lame too....I never felt this great huge love connection there. It seemed like they were both deseperate for each other and they turned it in to more than it was. I got totally lost when he goes to be with his son-in some other Country...I never understood where that even came about.
The end was dumb. Someone told me they cried bucket loads at this movie, and I didn't feel sad at all about any of it. I think it's because I couldn't feel the connection between those people, to care.
I went with my husband and another couple- to see it, and none of us liked it. We just came out of the movie theater, and said "whatever".

The house is NOT CGI. It is an actual real house in Rodanthe on Hatteras Island. If I get time, I will look for the link from the VA Times that tells the story about the house. It was condemned last year however, following one of their terrible hurricanes because the septic system was washed away. Not sure what the homeowners plan on doing with the place. A lot of homes that were washed away in Kitty Hawk a few years back have been replaced with just a gazebo for the landowners to go to when they want to visit the beach (can't call them homeowners anymore). My friend cried at the end of the movie, but it had some meaning to her. I guess anyone who is cold and unfeeling would never connect.

Well..that is interesting...because if you look at that house- it is IN the Ocean not near or by the Ocean. I have seen houses that are right along the Ocean, but they have a barrier between them and the ocean. The Tides come and go, and they can rise and fall , so I have no clue how a house could withstand that. It's weird that they filmed the movie-only a year ago, and now the whole thing is falling a part.
I looked up more information about the house...the poor design of the house- is what caused it to fall apart...and only parts of the movie were filmed there, they used another house for parts of it, and they did use a stage set for other parts- including the interior.
I have been to the Outerbanks, and have never seen a house that was sitting right in the Ocean like that...so I would never have thought that someone would have built that for real.

There are plenty of houses like that in Rodanthe, built right up to the shoreline. There has been severe erosion for about 10 years now, which is why so many houses literally got washed into the ocean in Kitty Hawk a few years back. I remember driving up there just to see one still sunken into the sand in the ocean about 100 feet out.

How do they get electricity and sewage and water and all their utilities , including heat?
That is what made the whole thing look impossible to have been for real, and where was the parking? I remember seeing Richard Gere's car parked beside the house, but if you look in that picture on that link, it doesn't look like there is anything but sand surrounding that house.

I think they must have run everything underground. I would guess it has a septic tank. The house is really called The Serendipity House. Stories on the net say they renovated it for the movie. During and right after the movie they had several bad storms that have damaged the house...
Believe it or not, there are real live electrical wires going the whole way down Hatteras Island. They all have septic systems in the Outer Banks, because the ground is not stable enough for sewage systems to be run, it is sand. As far as heat, my friend has gas heat at her house in Nags Head. Also, it may look like Hatteras Island is soooooo remote, but there are a few large grocery stores and shops there. My other friend also works at the bank in Rodanthe-yes there is a bank on the island! If you want to see a remote island, check out Okracoke. You have to ride a ferry for about 30 minutes to get there, and it's a fishing village. Everything pretty much closes up after the summer there.

In the better picture that JDOC posted, where's the drive way? I remember Richard Gere pulling in to the drive way, and Diane Lane was cleaning up around the house, it had plants and all kinds of stuff around it in the movie.
I did read that they put the blue shutters on for the movie.

OMG, They do make things look different in movies than they appear in real life! Who cares about the driveway? When I get down there in July, I will take a drive to Rodanthe and take some pics of what that house looks like now. The shot of the drive way could have been shot in front of another home. All of the homes there are built the same way, on pilings.
There are things called properties, or props, used in movies,and sometimes they are left behind by the movie company, and sometimes they take them back. The blue shutters were added, and I'm sure the flower pots were brought in too. As were the furniture, drapes, plates, cups, etc. Also, parts of the movie, (interior shots) were were shot in a studio in Wilmington, NC, where One Tree Hill is filmed and Dawson's Creek was shot there too.

Why? Who cares about the driveway and flower pots? I already explained that most of those homes look similar if you see them from the bottom, as they are built on pilings. It was probably filmed (the DRIVEWAY!) in front of another house. Or, possibly it could have been washed away in one of their horrible storms or hurricanes. Honestly, I have never heard of anyone being so concerned about a driveway and the use of flower pots in movies. I'm about to go join that motivational speaker in his van down by the river!

Here is a live feed from Rodanthe, NC. It is the house that was used in filming Nights in Rodanthe. It is updated every 15 seconds. It is located in what the surfers call "the S-Curves" because of the wave patterns; they consider it to be one of the best areas in the Outer Banks for surfing. They moved the Serendipity house last week. It took them a couple of days, but it is done now,and the new owners hope to have everything completed on the house by April. You can go to islandfreepress.org and there are numerous articles, blogs, pictures and video of the move. It is amazing that they could move something that huge.
