I am really eager to see jelly shoes come back. If you look hard enough, you can find them but many of them do not look the same way that they did back in the 80's.
Although, I think leggings should just disappear. I don't know if it's because I looked good in them in the 80's but not so much now.

The 80's hairstyles for girls is what I wish would return the most!

Bamersy.. I do understand it wasn't easy and the chance of a major burn was only one mistake away, but those hairstyles were just awesome.

Now the guys .. different story.. mullet??

Posted by Muffy Tepperman (Member # 1551) on :

Valley your not joking are you? haha I think most of the guys on here would say that...haha Maybe in the movies the girls hair looked good.... [Smile] Yeah I like the way guys wear their hair now.....not so much the 80's do.....although Duran Duran were hot! haha

I'm glad high waisted jeans are done with.....and huge sweatshirts!

I own a pair of pink jellies I still wear haha they look like my 80's ones. But I pull it off.

I wasn't necessarily meaning the "big hair" of the 80's.. more like Elisabeth Shue's style in "Adventures In Babysitting" or "C0cktail" as an examples.

And as far as clothes.. bring back the Neon shirts!

This shirt gives you an idea of the colors I'm talking about:

Because they're all a bunch of mopey try-harders! Plus we're usually only a day away from rain which = frizz.

Just don't punish me by making me wear Cavaricci pants again!

Oh and I agree on a comeback for women's big hair.

Please, no comeback for mullets or the minimal men's sport shorts.

We dont even need huge Geoff Tate from QUEENSRYCHE big hair. What about Kelly LeBrock in WEIRD SCIENCE. (pictures anyone?) Now that was a fine head of hair!

It just seems people had much more pride in their appearence in the 80s. We were such peac0cks back then. Leave the house looking like you might end up at a party cuz, Baby ,you just might!

Look Bamersy.. if we weren't 80's legends in our own minds.. then what are all those incredible memories really for then?

I love the older version of me.. I just dance a little less in my boxers when other people are in the room now..

Ive recently been reading a book about the early 80's new romantic style of fashions and music. Some of the pictures ive seen show people having a really good and ver stylish and individual time. And ive gotta say id quite like to get all dressed up in frills and make up and go out dancing....must be the inner Bowie in me

Thanks Val-I would never have worn them, though I did wear "doorknockers"-but only if they matched my outfit [Smile]

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

Bamersy, I had a hat similar to yours- more so of a mafia "gangster" type of hat, and my best friend had one in blue with a black band. We wore them to parties. Mine got ruined when some jerk spilled beer on it.
I wouldn't mind somewhat big hair coming back, just not the completely teased and sprayed bangs. I have naturally curly/wavy hair and I straighten it sometimes but I also wear it wavy, especially when it's raining outside! I hate how these young girls have fried every inch of life out of their hair to straighten it! My friend's daughter has naturally curly hair, but she has killed it with the hair dryer and flat iron. It looks ridiculous- that flat hair hanging in her face!
I do not wanna see Jams or Ballhugger shorts to come back either! Yuck.
Legwarmers are okay if you don't weigh 400lbs. I still think they look cute with a long t-shirt or sweater or what have you.

Ooo, I forgot- I used to love big earrings, mostly metallics. Now that they're back in style, I have a few pairs and get compliments from the teenagers. Too bad I gave all of my old ones from the 80's and 90's to Goodwill.

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

In the immortal words of Quinton from "Can't Buy Me Love" that your beer spilling jerk was probably related to:

"Just rub some salt on it Hun. It'll come out. Oh, oh. I mean, it's not like I ruined it."

Posted by Bamersy (Member # 8808) on :

Pittsburghgirl-I had a few pairs of big earrings, but mostly liked the big plastic pins. I used to have a zebra head one, and a black lacquer panther with clear rhinestones-it fell and broke a long time ago but I found another one at a flea market last Feb [Smile]

I've got some cool "laser" earrings too, will post pics in the future.

Posted by Bamersy (Member # 8808) on :

PS: My hair is naturally straight and thick but fine at the same time. It could easily take an hour or more to 80's style it.

Wouldn't mind seeing jellies come back, the new ones always have some huge ugly flower on them. Butterfly shirts were cool. Shouldn't come back - those parachute pants...

Those are way cool earrings Bamersy. I love that typical 80's design and use of colors.

I think Nagel would've love them also.. [Smile]

Awesome pic TKO! I have a book of Nagels' art-one of my favorite artists is Olivia De Berardinis-some of her art was inspired by him. I missed a chance to meet her at an art gallery-but the manager had me leave the card I brought and she signed it for me [Smile]

"To Belinda..."

Bam-Bam! Your name is Belinda! Your not-so-secret-secret is safe on this thread!

You'll always be 'Bam-Bam' to me:

 -

Ok, I know Bam-Bam was the boy and this is a picture of Pebbles, but you know you were a tomboy, and Bam-Bam fits you much better than 'Pebbles'. Amirite?

Posted by Bamersy (Member # 8808) on :

Thought about cropping it out-but oh well. Have to burst the bubble on tomboy though-could never climb a tree, or a fence for that matter [Smile]

The art is by Olivia, have collected her images since the 80's. Put some cool collages together, but too risque to post here.

It's probably the same as yours, as I don't know of any other books of Nagel's art. I never heard of Olivia De Berardinis before and looked up her work. I like it very much.

So cool that you got that autograph. [Smile]

Great story Bammersy! I love Nagel and I might need to check out this woman's art. My mom had these I called them (80's ladies) prints hanging up my whole childhood and when she had more money she had them matted and framed. I've looked up the artist before and the prints are super hard to find but I love them....I may have to find out the artists name from my mom again cause my mind is blank? [Smile] I'll get back to you guys.

That stuff was everywhere in the 80's. Very minimalist, lots of clean lines. I think I still have a couple of generic ones I picked up right at the end of the decade. Mainstream art seemed to be influenced by 'Vogue'.

I found out! it's an artist Chirstine Rosemond. Alot of her work is 70's and 80's and I think it was made into prints and posters alike:

so 80's and I love it!

Posted by Bamersy (Member # 8808) on :

Yes, that's the book I have too TKO.

Logan-Olivia is easy to find on the 'net-she collaborates with her photographer husband. He takes the photos and she paints the pictures. Some of her models have been Pamela Anderson, Julie Strain and she does a lot of Bettie Page.

BAM are my initials, so it does fit better than Pebbles [Smile]

Muffy-I remember those prints. They used to do them on mirrors too.

BAM check this out?

http://www.etsy.com/listing/39582548/christine-rosamond-mirror-70s-1980-girl

insane the price??!

the artist died tragically in the 90's you can still buy some prints through her main website but for some reason they are hard to find? Well i'll inherit my moms someday haha.

I just loved the use of negative space it makes them so abstract.

I had a mirror by her that a friend gave me in the 90's. Guess I should have held onto it but it looked faded to me, which it may have been meant to look that way.

Your tale is a little like that of Dorian Gray. Poetic and yet... so sad.

I just thought of this today!

French Braids!

My buddy begged me today if she could french braid my hair.......it reminded me of lining up for the babysitter to french braid our hair.

Then i'm watching Weekend at Bernie's and there's Gwen on the beach with a french braid haha

and yes my hair is still in a french braid at the moment [Big Grin]

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

Ah, the French braids. I could only do my own hair in a French braid. Someone asked me to French braid hers, and I tried but it came out a mess, so I had to do a regular braid. I don't think I've French braided my hair since the early 90's.

Yesterday I picked up a pair of light grey skinny crop jeans. They are ankle length, or you can roll them up to a more cropped length. I also got a long tunic from the LC (Lauren Conrad) collection- it is so 80's inspired. It's purple with embellishments on the top down the side. Also picked up a long black dressier tunic. Both the tops and jeans are so 80's-ish.

Mulletts on men were extremely ugly - I'm glad very few people these days have this hairstyle.

"Big hair" on women was a little excessive as well, though it did work well in some cases.

Re: clothes, I always thought the shoes with no socks "look" worked with men's fashion, though I agree it all depends on the clothes/shoes combination. Don Johnson could pull the look off in "Miami Vice", but that doesn't mean everyone could [Smile]
