Are you like me and often wonder where some of your favorite 80's Stars are now? I'm not talking about the obvious ones, but the ones that were so totally awesome in some of the classic movies from the 80's, but have since stepped away from the spotlight.

The main one that we have so often discussed is Michael Schoeffling from movies like "Sixteen Candles" and "Vision Quest". Despite my best efforts, little is known about the married with three kids furniture maker that now supposedly lives near Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. Last time I saw him he looked like Bigfoot though. [Wink]

Thus the idea, why don't we all work together to see what we can find out "whatever happened" to some of our fav 80's Stars.

So you give us a name and let's all see what we can find out about them. Sound cool?

I'll begin with one I've already kind of done some groundwork on to start:

Whatever Happened To: Lucinda D.ickey

We all know her from 80's classics such as "Breakin 1 & 2", "Cheerleader Camp", and "Ninja III: The Domination". But where is she now?

 -

Gotta love thoses 80's threads!

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Well Lucinda D.ickey now lives in Thousand Oaks, California with her husband Craig Piligian. She has at least two children with one in middle school and one in high school. Her husband whom Lucinda met on the set of the movie "Cheerleader Camp" was one of the original co-executive producers of the show "Survivor". She is a proud mom that is support of her kids helping them with school projects such as fashion shows and PTA activities. She won an award recently for for her involvement.

I have seen a recent picture of Lucinda D.ickey and she still looks Great! There is no way to post it here, but it was so cool to find out about her life now.

If you love her movies you have to check out an incredible website that is dedicate to her. The link won't post here because of her last name, but if you're interested...send me a PM.

I have always wanted someone to find info. on Betsy Russell. The last stuff I had found was on a yahoo fan group, and I can't find it now, but there were some really nice pictures of her from her 20th class reunion, but that was a few years ago already. I wanted to find them again to post them, but I haven't been able to find that place ever again. All I know about her now, is she has 2 boys to Vincent Van Patten, and they were supposedly divorcing because he had been cheating with Eileen Davidson...and he and Eileen were suppose to be getting married. So, I always wondered if Betsy remarried someone else.
She hasn't done any acting since the early 90's.

Sherri Stoner, co-star of "Reform School Girls" and the model for Ariel in "The Little Mermaid", has gone before the cameras for the first time in almost a decade. She's filmed interviews for the upcoming "Animaniacs" DVDs. She was a writer for that show in the 90s.

http://www.mynameisearlkress.com/weblog/?p=84

She's the woman in the sunglasses in the first photo.

She's one of my favorite 80s babes and a cool writer also.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

Whatever Happened To: Betsy Russell

After giving up acting in 1993 to raise her two boys Duke and Vincent, Betsy has since divorced from Vincent Van Patten. She is now happily engaged to Producer/Manager Mark Burg and spends her time being a soccer/surfer mom.

Fans of the 1987 kids movie ``The Monster Squad'' should have headed to the Camera 12 cinemas in San Jose last Saturday. The theater showed the cult classic and reunite actors Andre Gower (who played Squad leader Sean), Ryan Lambert (``cool kid'' Rudy and now lead singer for the San Francisco band Elephone,) Ashley Bank (``Phoebe the Feeb'') and director Fred Dekker.

Yeah Valley, where they heck did you find that reunion photo?? Betsey is the one in the green dress right? She looks great and more like the Jordan Leigh Jensen we all love and remember! [Smile] [Smile]

I thought her dress looked like a cream color. I have seen that picture before...that's one of the photos I saw on the yahoo group...that's why I wanted to know where he found it. I also saw recent pictures on there...that made her look like Jordan Leigh Jensen, she was in awesome shape, she had the reddish colored long hair, and she had jeans on and a black tank top shirt- and I can't find those pictures anywhere now...

Valley-while your looking up the whereabouts of people...see what happened to : Pamela Sue Martin from Nancy Drew and Falcon Crest.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

Yeah...I remember her wearing a Greenpeace shirt back in the 70's, cause my Aunt use to work for them and I had a whole bunch of t-shirts with "Greenpeace" on them.

So, Mr. Hardy Boy- where are you finding these pictures at....or can't you give out your sources????

Find....Amy Steel....

Whatever Happened To: Amy Steel

Amy Steel's acting career began in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1973 when she attended Westtown school of dramatic arts. After two summers of dramatic training, Amy joined Barley-Sheaf Players and starred in two productions. She temporarily left the theatre to further pursue her academic career at the prestigious Kent school in Kent, Conneticut. After three years at Kent, Amy left to attend a small college in Palm Beach, Florida where she majored in communications and broadcasting. It was there that John Casablancas, President of the renowned Elite model Agency discovered her.

Amy left Florida for New York in June 1979. Career opportunities in modelling, television and film soon followed. Amy has appeared in many television commercials, several soap operas and many hit movies.

Amy appeared on the first season of Family Ties. She is noted for being the girl with whom Michael J. Fox's character loses his virginity. Let's not forget Friday The 13th: Part II and April Fool's Day.

Here's Amy Steel at a Friday The 13th Reunion in 2004:

 -

Peter Barton said he had a huge crush on her, but she had a boyfriend whom she later married. She was last seen acting in the 2003 movie "A Time to Remember".

Everybody on this list has aged...Some for the better and one or two for the worse.

It's inevitable, though...I was skinny when I was younger, but now my weight is constantly in flux. Some months I'm thin and some months I'm heavy.

Looking in the mirror and stepping on the scale is always tough for me, so imagine how an actor must feel.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

Some for better or worse.....Totally agree John Kilduff! Irony is that Johnny Depp seems to be in possession of something we don't know about because I swear that man has not aged since 1987! We girls were having this conversation recently. Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy and, embarrassingly, Lover Boy) is a classic case of age being VERY KIND!!!! All the girls agree that age has made him VERY VERY Yummy, but wouldn't have given him a second look in his 'Lover Boy' days. However,as you all well know, I adore Andrew McArthy in his younger days but.....age has not been kind. He is rather thin and gaunt these days. A bit like the Lindsay Lohan of Gen X. Gosh I am being very harsh aren't I? Glad I'm not a celebrity. Rob Lowe, on the other hand, appears not to have aged at all. Do you think he's had plastic surgery like Demi or just aged well?

What about Brooke Theiss from Just the Ten of Us, what happened to her?

And Jenny Wright(the Wild Life, the Chocolate War0 hasn't been seen since 1998.

Also, Jonna Lee from Making the Grade and Quarterback Princess.

We all know Jonna Lee was wonderful in "Making The Grade" and "The Quarterback Princess". Jonna has since married a gentleman named Kevin Dennis and moved back to her hometown of Burbank, California. Her real name is Jonna Pangburn and she is does sculptures and various forms of art. Below is a sample of some of her work.

I haven't found a recent picture of her, but I might be able to work it out with some info I discovered.

What about Amy Linker who was Patty on Square Pegs?

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Jenny Wright is definitely out of the lime light. She was last heard from in 2002 when the band Callian's Dream wrote a goth rock song called "Near Dark Jenny" and dedicated it to her. She responded by email, but we haven't heard from her since.

NEAR DARK JENNY

Near Dark Jenny - where did you go?
Near Dark Jenny - there's someone who misses you so
Soon the sun will be rising - time for Mae to hide
Near Dark Jenny - hide the tears you've cried

(chorus)
Well, Caleb and I we've been searching
Loy and Sarah they've been looking too
O Pretty Jenny - young Mae what's become of you?

When the night has fallen the vampires come out to play
There's Jesse, Diamondback, Homer and Severen - and our seductive little Mae

The winds blow o'er the prarrie - the moon's in the sky above
The family hunts nocturnal delights - then Mae seeks vampire love

(Chorus)

I sought out Valentino - I called to The Lawnmower Man too
I asked everyone in this Wild Life but no one knows what happened to you

Near Dark Jenny you know you'll always be our star
If you need some hope and strength to share
Send us a message from wherever you are

How about finding some of the cast of Summer School???

Try and find:

Shawnee Smith
Dean Cameron
Gary Riley
Kelly Jo Minter

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

Oh, and the guy who played Corey Feldman's brother in the Lost Boys.

How about trying IMDB? And I know that Shawnee Smith has been acting steadily since Summer School- Becker, Saw, etc.

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Whatever Happened To: Dean Cameron

So... after flipping past Hi-Life, Sleep With Me, Kicking and Screaming and State of Emergency, you stayed up late watching Men at Work, Ski School II, Miracle Beach or Summer School for the three hundreth time and you thought to yourself, "Hey. That Guy... Wonder what he's doing."

you fired up your browser, went to Yahoo or some other search engine, typed in his name and, after realizing that he wasn't a senator in Idaho or a record executive in Canada, you found out that:

Dean Cameron invented the "Security Edition" of the Bill of Rights: The First Ten Amendments to the Constitution of the United States printed on sturdy, pocket-sized, pieces of metal -- huh? As the Web site for this ingenious product says, "The next time you travel by air, take the Security Edition of the Bill of Rights along with you. When asked to empty your pockets, proudly toss the Bill of Rights in the plastic bin.

Turns out Dean Cameron was a speaker at the 2004 Libertarian National Convention. He is also currently the "Voice of PG&E".

Dean Cameron's thoughts on:

Summer School (1987) .... Francis 'Chainsaw' Gremp

Read the screenplay and thought "Wow, someone wrote a part just for me!" This was a dream job. My first movie. Carl Reiner directed it and was so sweet and supportive. He let me ad-lib a lot of stuff and gave me a lot of free reign. The only downside of this movie was that I didn't get along with Gary Riley as much as either of us would've liked. We were very different people. Fortunately, it worked on screen and that was good.

The movie came out the the same summer that The Lost Boys did and the publicity and hype of that movie sort of overshadowed Summer School and I don't think that any of us got the attention we deserved.

Through some great work on the part of my agent at the time, I ended up with a sweet development deal at Paramount that died with the advent of the Writer's Strike.

Carl Reiner didn't like shooting longer than ten hours a day. This was a tremendous experience.

High Points: Courtney Thorne and her Smiths, chewing tobacco with Mark Harmon, Playing Simon Says at lunch, Patrick Labyorteaux, Richard Horvitz eating tons of candy and running around the school like a nut, Carl Reiner being nice to everyone all the time, my mom getting her photo taken with Mark Harmon, Kelly Minter doing an impression of Laura Dern crying.

Low Points: Arguing with Gary Riley, doing and getting absolutely no publicity, probably being called "Chainsaw" for the rest of my life.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I LOVE it!!! I love hearing that behind the scenes stuff about Summer School, that's what I wish I could find more about...with all of our favorite movies. How the cast had fun. We see it as a movie, but those are real memories for all the people involved...our favorite movies scenes really are someone else's memories. Dean Cameron looks the same, I'd recognized those eyebrows anywhere.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

PS-You can't find this kind of info. in IMDB-I look all the time, I have never seen this much extensive info on anybody...there's no picture of Amy Steel or Betsy Russell on imdb.

So, I think Valley has done an awesome job at coming up with really cool and interesting stuff on all these people.

PettyFan-was the other Frog brother ever in any other movie ever? I barely remember him saying anything in The Lost Boys except..."It's the attack of Eddie Munster!!"

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

Hee hee. I don't think he was, Isis. I remember years and years ago, when I used to read Bop and Big Bopper magazines (why did I just admit that?) there was a pic of him, but that was like it. I don't remember him saying much in the movie, either. He just mostly stood around and scowled.

Excellent find Smash Tash! Here's a wedding photo of Jamison Newlander to his lovely wife Hanny Landau.

Writer-Director Jamison Newlander, in his “The Virtual Adventures Of Riff-Cat Polito”(heretofore known as VARC), attempts to discover and bring to the theatre a whole new audience who otherwise would spend a Saturday night with their laptops on their hungry laps, playing vid games and messing around in chat rooms. His wife Hanny co-stars in the play.

His wife looks like Carney Phillips.

I would never have recognized him either.

He's younger than me. But, so is Corey Haim (I think).

I saw a more current picture of Dean Cameron, where he is almost bald, his face looks exactly the same though.

See if you can find Cindy Fisher. She played the girl in Liar's Moon. The movie was directed by David Fisher-I always wondered if they were related.

Find: Paul Land-I thought he was gorgeous in The Idolmaker. I always wondered what happened to him.

Whatever Happened to: Bruce Penhall

In my opinion, Bruce is the ultimate "Where Are They Now?" story. Since retiring on the 1982 World Championship rostrum, he has pursued that infamous acting career that began with a role in the motorcycle cop series, CHiPS. Over the past fifteen years, he has starred in at least ten feature films, played parts in around fifty different TV shows, and played commentator for various motorsports. Along with ex-Ipswich and Hull star Dennis Sigalos, he won Powerboat World Championships on three different occasions and then moved onto the sport of drag racing! Well, he's also a businessman as a partner in Penhall Optical Windshades selling fashion sunglasses to the rich and famous. A second, smaller business besides that, is Penhall's own, but now run by someone else, and in the unusual line of refurbishing golf teeing areas. He's also found time to marry and has four young children too.

How about finding Jenny Wright.

I just watched Out of Bounds and looked her up on imdb...she hasn't acted in awhile. It doesn't say she was ever married or had kids, but it said she was involved with Nicholas Cage for 2 years. (He sure got around)

When I was watching Out of Bounds,, there were parts of it that had the whole "Valley Girl" feel to it.

There's a scene in Out of Bounds where they are at this big warehouse, and they are running down the steps, and spray painted on the wall it says Nick & Jenny.....I wonder if she sprayed painted it on there when she was making the movie...that would be cool, cause I like finding stuff like that out....

It probably was for her and Nicholas Cage.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I forgot...someone asked about her already.

I think it has to be....because she dated Nicholas Cage for 2 years...I bet ya that would have been around the right time period, because she was like the female version of Randy from Valley Girl in Out of Bounds. Don't ya think??
