I was talking to Cindymancini on the phone last night, and one thing we were talking about is how so many 80's actors have taken part in stupid reality shows...like how Willie Ames behaved in the Fit Club one, or Gary Busey or the Baldwin brother...and I saw like 10 minutes of clips of each of them and that was enough for me.

Cindy was saying that there is a new one coming out and Kelly LeBrock is going to be on it...has anyone else seen that previewed?? Cause I was in shock...I wanted to see those clips...cause she was so perfectly built in Weird Science...that it is really scary if she went down hill...then how the heck is anyone else suppose to maintain themselves??

And I think I saw Jeff Conway from Grease and Taxi in a clip, and he was yelling and screaming and making a fool out of himself.....

I don't know what kind of money they are making to lure them in to making fools out of themselves, but doesn't anybody have a shred of dignity left any more??

Also...doesn't it scare ya when you see people like Cheryl Ladd, Barbara Eden, Lindsey Wagner, and Florence Henderson and all these other people who use to be huge names in the celebrity world...now they are doing commercials for osteoperosis and polident....I mean how did Florence Henderson loose the Wesson oil cooking commercials...just cause she is older doesn't mean she doesn't make fried chicken any more, does it?? It is like nobody will give them a job now that they are older unless it is for posturpedic beds or Os-Cal or Metamucil.

I think it has to be so hard to think about where your next paycheck is coming from...and what the cost of living is for those people...and how do they maintain paying their mortgage payment every month...has anyone else wondered that about celebrities who are well known, but you know they couldn't have earned a whole lot in life, so what are they living on now?

Hopefully, some of them have invested well enough to live decently after their stardom and fame passes them by. Others find jobs in stage plays.

Or they get a job in the "real world".

But the sad truth is that there are plenty of horror stories of ex-stars, who are now struggling to make ends meet. And some of them have little choice but to lower themselves to reality shows, or infomercials, or do something crazy, just so they can get paid. It's just to pay the bills.

Worse, some of them are in rehab!

But to be fair, of course, this is not true for EVERY performer.

By the way...I saw the Hugga Bunch at the welfare office just the other day...

Who knows what kind of hell some celebs go through once the fame is over. It's sad to see some celebs have to resort to hawking commericials, or the cast of different Strokes pretty much imploding once the fame is gone. Hollywood is full of sharks, so for some celebs retiring into family life comes as huge relief for people. The casting couch can be a very cruel barometer of a celeb's self-worth I guess.

My sister was telling me about this season of FIT CLUB....and, like you, the name that struck me as odd to be on the list was Kelly LeBrock. But, yeah, I guess I havent seen her in 15 years since those annoying "Dont hate me cuz Im beautiful" shampoo commercials. She was also married to dumb brute Stevan Segal who, last time I saw him, looked like HE could use CELEBRITY FIT CLUB.
My sister was also telling me that Jeff Conway was acting like "The Busey" of the group, which is a shame cuz when I was a little girl I looooooooved him (between GREASE and TAXI .I was glued to the screen, and I was, what, 8 years old????)
While its sad they are struggling to be in the spotlight I guess its admirable that they are on a show like that trying to "better" themselves. I only saw FIT CLUB twice last season but the person who struck a chord with me was Jackee (227). Everyone else was goofing off and she would get mad because she was serious about getting back in shape.
Strange how the "older" ones like Barbara Eden, Lindsay Wagner and Florence Henderson are looking better than the younger 80s stars, huh?

I always thought that Lindsay Wagner looked like a mess- her hair is unkempt and her clothes are sloppy- and on a tall thin body like that! And Barbara Eden and Flo Henderson are all pancake makeup, special lighting with filters on the cameras, and facelifts. Let's see what they look like without all of the special effects! Probably not half as good as my mother without her makeup!

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

Oh...when I see people without their make up on...it is shocking...I can't believe they let anyone take a picture of them.

I loved Lindsey Wagner...she was one of my favorite people....I idolized her like I did Joanna Cameron...but when she cut all her hair off real short...she didn't look glamorous or anything any more, and I have seen her in the Sleep Number bed commercials, and I guess for her age she looks ok...but I really think theses women have all been able to maintain their bodies...which to me is the hardest thing to do...cause I think for myself I am not far from 40, and if I just was in better physical shape..I think I would personally look younger than I do now...and I look at these women who have really great figures now...but their faces are a mess...and I totally think that life style choices totally play a part in that.

Having a little weight on your body I think makes your skin look better.

I think that celebrities don't really care about the weight as the reason to be there more so than the fact they are being in front of a camera again.

Someone please post it when Kelly LeBrock is on, cause I want to see what she looks like. Has anyone even seen previews and seen her now, before she starts the program?? Does she look real bad??

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

I havent seen the new show yet either...not even a commercial. If I find out when it's coming on I'll post something here. I have been looking for it for the past 2 days and it's not being played, which is a shocker cuz VH1 usually repeats, repeats, repeats ad nausea.

I saw part of it yesterday- actually Kelly Lebrock doesn't look bad- just a little overweight, but I think if she loses about 20 lbs. she would look great. I did not have time to watch more than the first 5 or 10 minutes. None of the people in this one interest me anyway. I, on the other hand, have to lose a great deal more than Kelly LeBrock! So I guess that is enough of me saying anything about any star's weight problems, hah, hah.

I saw the season premiere on Sunday--The celebrities usually don't have freakouts, and even then they ALWAYS exaggerate them in the previews to make more people watch. Kelly Lebrock looks really pretty, but I would have no idea it was the Weird Science chick if they hadn't told us. We got a Jeff Conway moon, though, so points down. [Frown] I wanna like the guy, but not that impressed yet. We'll have to see--It's on Sunday nights on VH1 if any of you guys want to see it. I like the show. It's more about health than losing weight--they had a plus-sized model first season.

There's occasional fights and health problems and drama, but I like seeing these people better themselves and I don't think it's all about getting on camera again. Some people I've never heard of, they were never big, but they're losing weight because they're scared about their health problems. They talk about diabetes and all sorts of scary stuff.

I thought one of the neatest things they did was near the end of the season they took these rubber things that weighed five pounds each and gave everyone a pile according to the weight they'd lost on the show so far. Then they had to run with that weight strapped to their backs to show them how much they were carrying around all that time.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

How long does that go on for?? I don't know anything about the show...but it takes a long time to loose 20 lbs., so I wondered how long each season lasts...and do they stay at a fitness club, or do they come and go every day from their own homes? Or are they all living together the whole time???

I watched season 2 of Celebrity Fit Club. I started watching it to see former Warrant lead singer Jani Lane. I guess I still had these delusions that he would be the hottie he was then. Boy was I disappointed...however, after he started losing weight and getting some of his confidence back, he was starting to look good agan...not so rough. It's actually a good show. It was on pretty much all summer, because there's only one new show each week, Sundays.

Some people grow old gracefully and some just grow old. It is to bad that people are so conscious of what is on the outside rather than what they are on the inside. I think the reason they take part in so much of this reality stuff is because they desperately want to be "wanted" again. They see this as an easy way to do it. If the casting directors aren't calling they they have to get out there like they can.

A prime example of this is Tatum O'Neal who is in Dancing with the Stars. She was so in awe and looked desperate for the compliments that the judges gave her for her performance last night. I cannot believe that she is the same person that has won an Oscar. It really goes to show you that people can change greatly over the years , change is one thing that is guaranteed.

Kelly LeBrock said that she gained weight because of her desire to be a "normal" person and not be treated like (and this is in her words) " a piece of ***" which started happening once she put on the weight.

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

I saw few of the Jani Lane ones. Lat I saw he had "jumped ship"...I thought he quit the show. I think he had said he was going through personal problems and a dicorce and such. If he stuck it out and made improvements good for him.

They really do find an odd assortment for these shows , dont they?

So final thought: A little better to see our old faves on a show like FIT CLUB bettering themselves than just exploiting themselves for a buck on shows like SURREAL LIFE.

(I will program TV now to remind me Sunday to watch!)

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

Yeah, he stuck it out. When he jumped ship he was actually in the hospital with alcohol poisoning or some such thing.

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

Yikes.

You know its really hard to work on fitness and diet when drinking. The two just DONT go together. And thats why most of these rock stars start lookin like Fat Elvis I think.

By the way, have you ever seen WARRANT perform? I've seen them twice: Once in the 80s, once in the 90s.

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

No, but I always wanted to. They have a different lead singer now, I'm not sure who it is. When I think of Warrant, I want to think of them the way they were in the late '80s, during the time of "Heaven." And you're right, drinking and dieting don't mix!! If memory serves me correctly, this isn't the first time Jani Lane has been sober.

Isis, I think each episode covers a week of their fitness training (maybe more--a month?), but almost all the filming is advice from the judges (after telling them what weight they lost since last time) and activities the group did together. Most of their weight loss is done at home (they diet and exercise and call the judges if they need help), but they do other activities for the show.

Oh...hmmm...I did not know that....I didn't think they hung out day and night with each other.

Is Kelly LeBrock remarried now? Does she have any children? Her and Seagal never had any kids , did they?

I think I caught a glimpse of her the other day in a preview for it.

I'm not sure if she married again, but she and Seagal had a daughter that he named after their nanny.

HUH?? That is a little bizarre...why the nanny??

That's so Jude Lawish sounding....

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

Hahaha...dont the babies usually come BEFORE the nannies?????

According to IMDB Kelly (who was born in New York, who knew???) was married to a guy named Victor Drai BEFORE Steven Segal. She was married to Segal from 1987-1996. They had three children together: Annaliza, Dominick and Arissa.
It doesnt list her as being with anyone since their break up.

I recall reading (in trashy tabloids) that Segal was abusive. Does anyone else remember that? I would guess thats why they broke up.

Caught the show last night and all I can say is JEFF CONAWAY...WEOW...WHAT HAPPENED????
What a mess. The man needs help. (Hopefully the next episode leads up to him getting it. The upcoming previews suggest it).

I thought Kelly looked good. Okay...maybe could stand to lose a few pounds....but still a very attractive woman. I like that she still carrys herself nicely and dresses in a flattering fashion.

I got to see it last night. Jeff Conway is definately on drugs, and needs some major help, or he's going to die.

I thought Kelly LeBrock looked good, she didn't look fat, she just had weight all over, and wasn't super thin any more, but she looked better than I thought she was going to.

Young MC was on there too, he's from the 80's.

I still say that has to be totally humiliating to show themselves in the before stage, when they swirl them around with no shirt on to get a good look at their bodies. I don't think they should do all that, that seems kind of degrading, you can tell when someone looses weight in their face and even with clothes on.

It just goes to show what a huge problem we have in this country with eating terrible diets....and lack of exercise...look what happens as a result.

I was thinking about something else about this show tonight.

See, there's a formula they got going on this show now too, and it is real easy to figure it out. They have to have a person who is a complete and total mess...Jeff Conway is this time around, but Willie Ames and Gary Busey have been there and done that already too, and I didn't even see the episodes, I just saw them flipping out in the previews.

Now, here's the thing...if they didn't throw the drama in there...would people be watching it as much as they do now...the whole loosing weight thing is being over shadowed by the drama. Now, I do think that some of the celebrities are there to actually loose weight...and I feel bad for them because I think they are all a part of a conspiracy that the show is doing to get viewers.

You could tell that Chastity and Kelly were serious about loosing weight, and so was Young MC...they seem like that was what was motivating them....and they seemed irked at Jeff for not putting the effort in to doing his part for the team, and they should be irritated.

But, I think some people are going to be tuning in to see Jeff Conway possibly over dose...that is a horrible thing, but it is true, cause they keep showing him in the preview, like stay tuned to the next episodes...as if it is a soap...when in fact it isn't....it is a real person going through a real life ordeal, and they are being exploited and I don't even think they even care because they are so goofed up in the head...they don't know what to do with themselves.

I saw that with Jeff Conway...he got all mad, then he calmed down, and he looked like he was going to burst in to tears, because he's old, his out of shape, he has health issues, he is working for jobs that don't pay him anything really, and that has to suck. He's in pain for herniated discs in his neck and back, and he is just one messed up person, and they might get him the needed help along the way, but not without first exploiting his problem for the benefit that it brings them from getting exposure for their show, and that's sad.

Posted by Spooka Lupa (Member # 2700) on :

I don't think the exercise is overshadowed by the drama so much as they advertise the drama to get viewers in. But to watch the show you have to be looking for some value in it other than the drama or you're in for disappointment.

Just because they're stars and they're out of shape and have problems doesn't mean there's a whole conspiracy out there to exploit them. I sincerely believe that not everything is about exploit and greed and desperation, even in Hollywood. My mother has theories about conspiracies all the time, and sometimes I tell her, "You know, Mom, not everything is out to get you." For example: "I hate that all clothing is layered nowadays. They make them like that on purpose so you have to spend more money on different pieces of layering." Maybe I'm naive, I just can't see where all the secrets and conspiracies and schemes are that people seem to see nowadays.

Posted by eightieschick (Member # 4385) on :

Spooka, I've got a mother and a brother-in-law who are always talking about conspiricies. I know my mother is nuts, and I'm beginning to think so of my BIL. He's always coming up with something that is a conspiricy- it could be anything from the price of lettuce to why we receive junk mail. AAAAAAAAAArgh!

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I don't believe in it being a conspiracy.

But, you can see the connection to every episode.

I have a friend...I talked to him all afternoon, he is a celebrity photographer...he's meet probably over 50% of these people that we are talking about in these reality shows...and he said he guarantees that what they did on that show the other night with Jeff Conway was completely scripted....that was not in any way off the cuff...when you look at the end credits on any reality show and it lists the many writers who write what just happened...those people on there are or were actors at one time, you don't think that they don't know what is going on, but they do.

I feel sorry like I said ...because I know they really are there to loose the weight, but they have to play the "game" to do it, and I'm not talking about racing a boat.

It is all about drama and kaos...look at Danny Bonaduce...some of that is real, I honestly believe...he's a mess, but some of it he has to be putting on, cause he is bringing in money by his behavior...that's what is getting him ratings...that's what people are talking about...they talk about what a mess he is, it makes their life look not so bad...and I believe that's what people get out of reality tv...they get to look at someone else in turmoil...and think..gosh...at least I am not that bad off.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I watched the first and second episode...and the thing that I said about Jeff Conway being a mess...they showed them doing take after take of just trying to get them all to walk through the door to sit in their chairs, and Jeff kept stumbling in and falling, or screwing up. So, that did say and show how staged the whole thing is.

But, I did think it is great that maybe these people will get motivated to have better diets...because some of them already had diabetes and hypertension. And they weren't very old either. It is shocking to me how many people are over 300 lbs.

I don't think Kelly looks bad at all, if she looses her weight she'll look really thin. I think some people look a little better with a little bit of weight on them...than if they were bone skinny. Some of today's women that are starving themselves look terrible. What is sad is that weight seems to be an issue one way or another for just about everyone out there. So, it is a common bond everyone can relate to.

Speaking of "celebs" who have no idea that it is time to hang it up, look at the Rolling Stones. The band looks as if they have been dead for decades and then dug up. They must have more than enough money to live on after being around since the Civil War (or so it seems). Leave with dignity!

I missed FIT CLUB on Sunday. Will have to try to watch a rerun of it some time this week.

[spoilers ahead]

Jeff Conoway overdosed. He was released from the hospital, but admitted to rehab shortly after and won't be returning to the show. They've replaced him with one of the Nelson twins, who seems nice but he isn't fat so . . . what's the point?

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

It's on tonight (Wednesday) 10 pm in New York (might play other times in other states). I just put up a post it note to remind me.
This is why I hardly ever watch any "new" shows. I can never remember when They're on!

Did Jeff go to a place to "get help"?

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

Whooooooooops...just read it again and you said he went to rehab. so , yes, he's getting help.

I think a big problem was he was SO in denial. "I'm not on drugs!!!!!" he would scream (in a way only someone totally messed up on drugs would).

well...in this years 'celebrity' big brother, we have the OMG factor of Pete Burns, the former lead singer of dead or alive..you know...'you spin me right round baby right round like a record baby, right round round round'...yes you're with me now right??....WELL!!! take the time to go and have a look at what he looks like now...I guarantee you WONT be disappointed.

Well...that is sad about Jeff Conway...I knew it was going to go down that road. One of these days someone is going to die on camera because of all this craziness.

It is sad on so many levels...Sad because these people had money and fame and were living a lifestyle that so many people are envious of, and they can't cope with it, and they turn to drugs and alcohol, and throw their life away.

Growing older takes a toll on people, and trying to keep up with what is "hip" today...is just ridiculous. I watched a little bit of the Golden Globes...and all those women who are on Desperate Housewives...none of them look like anyone I would want to spend 5 minutes with getting to know, they all look so fake and phoney.

I saw Paris Hilton on E! at an after show party...and she just thinks she is so cool, and if anyone else acted like her...you'd want no part of them, so how she gets away with it..I have no clue.
