Tears for Fears turned out a small treasury of well-crafted songs during the 80's such as Mad World, Pale Shelter, Shout, Head Over Heels, and Sowing the Seeds of Love. But the tune I associate most with Tears For Fears is "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" which was brilliantly used at the end of "Real Genius".
And Muffy .. will probably be quick to point out that she now favors "Head Over Heels" and "Mad World" because of their wicked cool use in 2001's "Donnie Darko".
And I was intrigued to find out that two of the members of Tears For Fears worked on a side project called Mancrab and released a tune called "Fish For Life" on "The Karate Kid: Part II" soundtrack.
But the real reason for this thread is find out if other Tears For Fears fans are going to try to catch them in concert this summer. I have two chances.. Atlanta is within a long weekend driving range or my brother lives in Ft. Lauderdale...

I've always loved Tears for Fears and how could you not growing up when they played on MTV all the time. Sowing the Seeds of Love was my sing along groove.....I'd sit on the floor and mimic I was planting seeds to the video! ha
But honestly yes I would mention Donnie Darko.......TFF was used brilliantly on the soundtrack.....!

It pushes one of my 'anti' buttons. I liked the film... I liked the music (obviously)... *but*, I never understood why it was set in the past - for what purpose? And I never understood why they were using songs that wouldn't have been played much at the time the movie was set. It's set in '88, we're hearing songs from '85 (or earlier), and my reaction was then and is now "pourquoi?"
I know the film is good, I know the songs are good, I know they're put together well, but it still jars to me whenever I watch it.
I actually think it's set in the past *for* the music, but that they got the years slightly wrong.

I'm with you, logan. Also, I'm slightly annoyed at the Mad World cover version, which I'm sure comes as a shock to many... /snobbery
Tears For Fears - The Hurting is one of my top 10 albums of all-time, not just the 80s, so they're ok in my book. If they would just come out and play that album top to bottom, I'd pay a fortune to see them.

A bit disappointed not to see 'Watch Me Bleed' on their setlist. It is such a great and underated song.
To me Tears for Fears were the ultimate 80's band.
I also have so many fond memories to almost each and every single they brought out. But after The Seeds of Love album I sort of lost track of their music.

Oh my you two! Do you both just hate Donnie Darko? Is it because it's a new movie? I know Logan is a stickler about songs and year placement (don't mention the show Do Over around him)
There was something about DD that I just loved....It doesn't nessicarly feel like an 80's movie but I always felt like it was telling a story from the 80's even down to them watching tv in the family room....I don't know? haha
When the directors cut came out there was a group of 10 of us that got together to see it at this cool indie theater and it was so much fun.....there was a lighting storm oustide after and we all set outside and disscussed the movie....just a great memory I have.
They did change the music a bit in the Directors Cut?

Yep, like I said; it pushes my "anti" button. I liked 'Do Over' (really) I just think it's horrendously sloppy when writers can't even get the timeline close to accurate.

That does sound like a nice memory. By the time the Director's cut had come out the movie had become a cliche. I feel the same about Shawshank Redemption; I saw it at the theaters when it first came out, and there was no publicity. I remember telling everyone about this great movie I'd just seen (nobody cared). Gradually the film moved up the 'best ever' lists and everyone decided they loved it. I end up with mixed feelings.

Aw Logan haha I get the cliche thing for sure.....people made a big deal of it for sure "so deep" lol I liked it more for the dark humor.....Swayze and Barrymore!
The music I know for sure changed is the opening it changed from Echo and the Bunnymen's 'The Killing Moon' to INXS's 'Never Tear Us Apart'.
I love both songs!!! But 'Tear Us Apart' does fit better.

What is the name of this movie, mabe takes place near a lake?. I only have a few details, I use to watch it when i was young. I am 26. I think it is from the 80's. It is about kids and there is an older woman, maybe a witch, but she blends in, noone really knows she is evil except for this one girl who "figures it out" The mom like takes the kids to stay with her or to that town for the weekend, and her and her brother or sister find out strange things. The main fact that really stands out is that there are TWO teenagers in the movie a boy and a girl who are like ballet dancers. Always practicing around outside. The girl is mean and the boy has blonde hair and never speaks much. They look creepy like. The end of the movie I remember the girl is on the bridge and someone says like yea see (whateverthat evil ladys name is) is not soo bad. Then the girls like " yea i guess not" Then u see or hear the old lady evilly laugh at the end. I knowww this is a bad memory of lack of details! But does anyone know what I am talking about?????????? pleasee

When I lived in Vegas I won tickets from the all 80's radio station out there to see TFF in concert. They put on a great show! There were a bunch of kids there with Donnie Darko T-Shirts on which was cool.

Valley, you're on fire these days!! Wow, TFF...they have been a staple in my iPod for the last year and I'm going to see them in concert next week!! Can't wait!!!
The guy I'm going with reignited my love of TFF when I realized we were both fans the first time we went out! He actually just surprised me with their DVD, Scenes From The Big Chair. It's a documentary that was done in 1985 at the height of their success. It was originally released in 1986 on VHS and featured all their videos & some live performances but when it was released on DVD in 2005, they added a concert from Santa Barbara in 1990 to the end. Nice!!!
After TFF split up, Curt Smith worked with a new band called Mayfield. I was able to get their cd from Amazon, however, I am not yet too familiar with it. I also purchased his solo album Halfway Pleased and I love it! Although, some may tire of his falsetto after a while, I more than enjoy the beautiful, melodic and somewhat moody feeling behind many of the tracks.
I also picked up TFF's last album, Everybody Loves A Happy Ending! Some standout songs include "Who You Are," "Call Me Mellow" and "Size of Sorrow."
Additionally, I have to agree with Muffy about the usage of "Head Over Heels" in Donnie Darko. Couldn't be more perfect! Hell, I think I bought the DD Blu-Ray for that scene alone!! LOL!!
In closing, I will leave you all with a link to one of the best live performances I've seen of the band...dear God, if I could jump into this video, I would...Curt is beyond smokin' hot and the bass line around the 2:40 mark is enough to put me in a trance. Mmmm! Enjoy!

I saw Tears For Fears back in 1986 or 1987 in NYC. I remember we stayed up all night so we could be first in line to buy tickets. After the concert the trains had stopped running, back to NJ, so we had to talk a bus that dropped us off about 5 miles from my friend's house and we had to walk all the way because he wouldn't call his parent's to come pick us up.

So I have a question for all you concert goers. Has TFF ever done any cover songs at a concert you've attended? I ask this because, I know they did an amazing version of Radiohead's 'Creep' back in the mid-nineties, and now they are covering Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' on their current tour.

Hey guys, I just wanted to share a few pics from the TFF concert that I went to in NYC two weeks ago!! It was incredible!! The venue was perfect! The Hammerstein Ballroom certainly has a charm.
Curt & Roland looked and sounded great but I will say, it was very loud. We were in the front row on the right hand side in front of the speakers and the drums and bass were so powerful that I could feel the hair on my head moving...yikes!
The did all the hits! Hearing the opening beats to "Mad World" was pure ear candy! I was transported back to the 80's instantaneously!! "Pale Shelter" was religious! I can't even put into words how amazing it was to hear that song live and the audience's energy during the performance was palpable!!
They did a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" which was totally unexpected and seemed to go over well but another standout moment for me was when Curt did a song from his solo album, "Seven of Sundays." It was beautiful, heartfelt and endearing. Ahhh...truly a moment!
I'm a TFF fan for life. I'm so grateful I got to see them this time around cause the first time, we were only ten and it was but a dream to see them in concert!! However, I'm learning that some dreams do come true, you just have to wait 25 years to see it happen!!
