They started out as the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo and later shortened the title. They also released a wacky musical movie called the forbidden zone which you can buy on DVD it's awesome. But it's easy to see why Danny Elfman is a lyrical genious and a great composer.

Besides the movie the only album I own is Only a lad but sometimes the lyrics are shocking sometimes fun and also thought provoking. They are often sarcastic and makes fun of society.

I LOVE Oingo Boingo...Danny Elfman is one of the un-sung heroes of the 80's, in my opinion. My favorite song by OB is probably "We Close Our Eyes."

Loved their appearance in "Back to School" as well as their many song contributions to other 80's movies like "Fast Times" and "Summer School."

I am also a huge fan of his scores for Tim Burton's movies, particularly "Edward Scissorhands."

I can hear the Oingo Boingo tune "Weird Science" playing in my head right now. This group had such a catchy name and songs that were new wave cool. But their contributions to numerous 80's soundtracks is why I enjoy their music most.

Here's a few:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
The Last American Virgin (1982)
Bachelor Party(1984)
Weird Science (1984)
Back to School (1986)

I've had a soft spot for this group for years, kind of fall into that Devo-like vein but had a horn section. Loved that song Goodbye, goodbye in Fast Times. Still never acquired or seen Forbidden Zone and I lost numerous times trying to get their videos on e-bay. I'm going to have to dig out their albums, it's been too long.

I loooove Oingo Boingo. One of my favorite songs is Just Another Day. Imagine my surprise when I watched That Was Then, This Is Now for the first time and my favorite Boingo song was blasting over the opening credits.

"Forbidden Zone," great music, not quite the cult hit (I don't think that you can "deliberately" manufacture a cult hit; it just has to happen.) they'd hoped for but it's still a lot of fun. (Susan Tyrell was the evil queen, as I recall.) I remember watching it--in a near comatose state in my apartment--on the much-loved, sadly missed "USA Up All Night," back in the day. A special memory from that show for me today indeed... That and watching "Hell Comes to Frog Town," still one of the three best movie titles of all time... :-)

When are they gonna release some remastered and expanded Boingo discs for us? There are so many soundtrack songs, one-offs, and remixes that can be added to the albums and cleaned up a bit. It's time!
