I Just Called to Say I Love You - Stevie Wonder

Not a big fan in general, but most of his work is ok. This song however... I hate it with a passion.
The worst n°1 hit of the 80's (if you ask me).

I hate Sweet Child of Mine too....even though I just got it on a 45...I got it for my son, but I never liked Guns in Roses that much anyway.

I hate the song...Message in a Bottle by the Police.

Someone wrote on here about songs that were over played, and one came to my mind the other day...and I always hated it...I hate the song "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel.

You guys are killing me with your choices. I like every song above. Anyway, I'll pick I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith.

I originally liked I Don't Want... but I heard it so much I got sick of it.

U2's Desire. I really disliked it for the longest time.

"Rocket" by Def Leppard. I am beginning to like it a little again now but back in the day they played it on the radio like every 5 minutes.......

I absolutely agree!

I think it's because it was written by a soft-pop ballad songwriter, Diane Warren, one of the most prolific and successful songwriters today. Her kind of songs are not the kind that rock bands can pull off.

I love Aerosmith, but it's not the kind of song that they would usually sing!

If you have to hear the song, try the country-music version by Mark Chesnutt, which came out the same year that Aerosmith's did.

I love the song "Rocket" by Def Leppard.

I hated the song "Diamonds and Pearls" by Prince.

But "Diamonds and Rust" is a great cover of a Joan Baez song done by Judas Priest

Devolution here,

You must understand, as a college student in most bars in NYC people played that song all the time, and sang it all the time.

I can only listen to it about once a year.

It honestly gets me mad.

We are DEVO

Did you know?

That song was actually the combination of 3 separate songs that Joel started writing and couldn't finish any of them, so he decided to combine all 3 into 1 song. [Wink]

Personally, I love that tune. [Razz]

Mony Mony is SUCH an annoying song!! Otherwise, I'm like you...I like Billy Idol.

Mony Mony by Billy Idol was annoying and it irritates me to no end that it's the song he's probably most known by to the casual listener. He had so many more songs that deserve more praise then that one. His best cover song is actually LA Woman in my opinion.

Madonna - Don't Cry for Me Argentina
Mick Jagger & David Bowie - Dancing in the Street
Huey Lewis (with Gwenyth Paltrow) - Cruisin'
Phil Collins - You'll Be in My Heart
Paul McCartney - Silly Love Songs
Bryan Adams - Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman

I hate to admit I hate Vogue by MADONNA

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

Okay, I have to defend my Sweet Child O'Mine hatred. When it first came out, I thought it was okay...not great, okay. Then they played it all the time...got tired of it. THEN Sheryl Crowe covered it, and as Billy said on the Ringer, "Oh Mylanta."

ABC: When Smokey Sings

I really like ABC but When Smokey Sings was probably their biggest hit and I didn't like it THEN and I dont like it NOW.

The funny thing is I catch myself singing it sometimes and my daughter is always like :I thought you hated that song!"

I like "Vogue" alright, but I really can't stand the other hit she had off that album, "Hanky Panky". God, does that song suck.

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

oh yeah...that was TERRIBLE! As was the other song I'm Going Bananas. REALLY! What was she THINKING????

Posted by journey (Member # 7316) on :

I think those were hits based solely on her star power at the time and not the substance of the songs themselves. In 1990 she was at the height of her worldwide popularity and probably would have had a hit singing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". As to why she chose to release them at all...that one's beyond me. She usually has a pretty keen eye for cutting edge production. The I'm Breathless album was an exampe of that failing her big time. Maybe she was too busy working on **** Tracy and running around with the likes of Warren Beatty and Vanilla Ice.

I dont know that those SONGS were hits...I think the album itself was a hit cuz people were buying it to get Vogue. Nowadays had that album came out people would have downloaded Vogue and NOT bought the album!

I think based on the "old-timeyness" of **** TRACY she was trying to tip her hat in what type of music she did ....which.....I dont know how to put this into words. Maybe it was ahead of its time? OR maybe just self-indulgent (like you say-sometimes these stars think they can fart in A minor and make a hit single out of it!) Somehow Christina Aguilera can pull off that '40s Swing stuff better than MADONNA could...but I think MADONNA likes to say she's tryed EVERYTHING. Cantw ait for her Heavy Metal album to come out! hahaha

"Hanky Panky" was actually a Top 10 hit in 1990.

Was it???? Well, shut my mouth!

Sidewalk Talk with MADONNA and JELLYBEAN was a terrible song too.
