Devolution here,

Many of us have long loved many 80's songs. The thing is that the ability to buy songs has made many of us not collect because we hope it might wind up on Itunes one day.

So here is my idea...

A Board on the website reserved for people who are trying to get songs and would like to know who would be able to send them the songs. Now, I'm going to imagine that many of the people that have posted here for years are cool about giving up songs that other people need, as for the longest time, I have gotten great songs from soundtracks to Rad, Bachelor Party, Sixteen Candles, and even Spring Break... Just to name a few.

Soundtracks aside, hearing a song like ABC's "Be Near Me" is a cool song to hear, but paying the money for it shouldn't be necessary with the friendly community that we have. Also, it's good to know that many of the songs that aren't easily available to the people in the U.S., and many of the songs that aren't available to people in the U.K. and the rest of the world, will have access to these songs, free of charge, because we will be mailing them out of our collection.

Especially in terms of music that is out of print, or hard to get, this is a good idea, no?

Paul, Nick, any thoughts???

We are DEVO, and by all means if anyone has a request, I would be more than happy to share, if I have the song.

Try Limewire. LOTs of free songs, but a bit sporadic on titles. Some surprises there though...

I like the idea Devo. I usually e-mail people with specific songs that they are looking for and that I have. I am always happy to share the odd song here and there.

Noms [Cool]

ps Ziggy, not being funny but I think you missed the point Devo was trying to make.

The only thought I have here is related to copyright and intellectual property.

If you are 100% certain that the track is no longer subject to copyright or intellectual property law (as in the RIAA will not sue your a$$ for ripping CDs and then making them publicly available over the web) then I see no problem. Anything that would fall foul of these laws or the RIAA needs to be kept off of Fast Rewind. It would need to be entirely your responsibility as individuals to do this check.

I appreciate that all people want to do is help out their buddies, but make sure it's done in a nice, legal way, guys.

Devolution here,

If you are talking about Happy, in the beginning of the movie, I have that, Cindy gave me that a while back, I will send it to you.

Devolution here,

But if we bought it Paul, that should be legit, right? I mean, I'm not sending the whole CD. More importantly, if it weren't for mixed tapes, how many bands would you not know about?

Technically, if you bought it, it would be OK for you to have it.

If you give it to someone else, in whatever format, and in whatever bite-sized chunks you wish, that's effectively transferring ownership. As such, legally you have to ensure that either a) you no longer own a copy of the material, or b) you have clearly stated it's being sent 'for evaluation purposes only', and that unless the person it is sent to has bought the original material from a legal source, then they must destroy what they are sent within 24 hours of receipt.

I personally agree that the law may well be an a$$ in this arena, but it's still the law, and as such we have to comply with it, and communicate it, so that Fast Rewind websites is seen to be compliant with copyright law (or at the very least not left open to accusations of breaking the law).

Bah Humbug,
Paul

Devolution here,

So could we ask openly, and communicate outside via email that doesn't pass through the site?

You can do what you like outside of the site.... [Big Grin]

Hope I'm not coming across all dull and restrictive here - just making sure that you all understand the position of The Management - anything happening on the site must be legal, polite, and ideally non-fattening.....
