Did any of you compulsively listen to the radio as a kid to try and hear those elusive songs your parents were too tight to buy you?

Did you then compile them into one maga-tape and give them a really lame title...like...Anna's Hot Mix 88 etc?

I know you're out there...I can see you making those recordings in your room, even with the radio announcer's voice playing over the top of your beloved intro. Tell me what was on your favourites:

My sister had an awesome one with

Video Killed the Radio Star
We Belong
Land of Make Believe
Run to Paradise
etc, etc, etc to name a few.

C'mon, don't be shy [Smile]

I've got a great tape I made up of my favorite tracks from all my cassettes back in 1990. It started with "You're History" by Shakespear's Sister, had a bit of Robbie Nevil, John Farnham, Roxette's "Sleeping Single", "Miss Divine" by Icehouse, Nenah Cherry's "Manchild" and others. I still have the tape in my car and listen to it from time to time.

Anna great topic!!!

I did this alot in the 80's.....tapes were expensive for a kid...so on Sundays the place to be was standing in front of the record player listening to Kasey Kasem's top 40, with your ghettoblaster up to the radio ready to push play/record....for your favorite songs.

I somehow always had background sounds going on too. That sucked! I still have some of mine....even me on the local radio requesting they play a song from Slaughter.....oh my I was a dork.. [Embarrassed]

Muffy, you sound a lot like me!

Over here, we waited with baited breath for Shadow Stevens' American Top 40 - from 6pm on Sunday nights. Thankfully, radio stations now play a better mix of music than back then.

I tried to tape "Eye of the Tiger" once and it was with one of those old fashioned tape players that didn't cut out background noise. As a result, there was me, in the background, singing away like a woman possessed...I sounded hideous. However, at least I know my limitations...not like some of those idol wannabes...sheesh!
