This is one I haven't watched for years since owning it a long time ago on VHS. I actually had to do some scavenging to hunt it down for a re-watch. Anyway, this is a 1991 comedy film written by John Hughes and starring Ethan Randall and Ed O'Neill. It's a holiday film much in the same tone as Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and Home Alone, but not quite as popular as those movies...obviously. I remember watching and enjoying this one quite a bit when I used to own it on VHS. And after my re-watch, I think it's still pretty good. Not quite as funny as I remember, but I used to laugh at some pretty stupid stuff back in the day. So it's understandable how I would enjoy it as much as I did back then. Being a big fan of Ed O'Neill on Married...with Children at the time really helped too. But I think this one is still worth a gander if you haven't seen it. If you've seen most John Hughes family holiday movies, then you should pretty much already know what to expect in this one. It doesn't stray too far at all from the typical John Hughes formula.

Ive been wanting to rewatch this also Pyro but its never on. Of course i would prefer the VHS but like you said its not an easy find. O'Neill was fantastic in Married with Children and is one of the best characters of all time imo.

Yes, No doubt he is legendary as Al Bundy. And I think that may have had a lot to do with why this movie bombed so hard. Al Bundy was such a hugely popular character at the time of this movies release that it unfortunately really type-casted Ed O'Neill. So seeing him play the role in this movie which is pretty much a stripped down more family-friendly version of Al Bundy is pretty cringe. And Ethan Randall playing his role a little TOO well as the spoiled, bratty rich kid certainly didn't help either. So yeah, I can easily see why people didn't care for, or downright hated this movie. But again, as I said in my brief review. I think it has just enough John Hughes charm going for it that it's worth a watch if you haven't seen it already.

This might still be on HBO Max. I watched it during Thanksgiving with my kids. I happen to love this movie. Even though I had to do some editing for an 11 and eight-year-old.
